just out of curiosity really as i dont have any mates local with a tqs to compare with, just wondering if my 0-60 is about right? only mods are -

FMIC
forge 007p
stage 1 map

(and yes i know i need pads!! lol)

sorry i dont know how to embed the vid into the thread!

What did you do it in? Couldnt be ***** watchin vid haha.

I take it you have a 5 speed gearbox?

Dani.. around 7seconds judging from the video

<tuffty/>

Not bad, whats the power of a mapped tqs, about 210bhp? tops!

yeah but remember if its a 5 speeder it will hit 60 in second not third like 6 speeders

<tuffty/>

looks a bit less then 7 looking at the video. judging by the sprint starting at 4 secs and ending at 10 secs?

as for what's normal, the book states 0-60 is 7.3 secs on the 1.8 tqs: 7.5 secs on the mk4 golf anniversary with 180bhp.

let's face it, depending on the launch, driving conditions etc ur never gonna get a true 0-60. id just be happy with my torque from 30-60 mph. even my little brothers 1.0 vvti yaris feels quick on the 0-30 lol

It's a TQS with a KO3s. Unless he's changed the turbo back

yeah its a k03s @ 22psi

and yup 5 speed box!

i make it about 6.7 on my satnav and iphone but obviously they arent incredibly accurate.

cheers for the replies, ko3 hybrid next then :sly:

yeah but a fair bit more work isnt it? id be looking to spend 2.5-3k max inc labour so i thought that would rule out any sort of ko4 setup?

ive said it before and i'll say it again... if i had £1000s to spend on upgrading my 1.8tqs id much rather 1) sell her 2) buy an s3) 3) spend what money i had left on a stage 1 remap that will far out do anything a 1.8tqs can push out. harsh but true!

nah i dont want an s3 i like the a3 better hense why ive replaced the s3 bumpers for a3 ones  i want it to be abit of a sleeper so i dont mind spending the money on it :w00t:

Wouldn't take anymore to fit a K04 hybrid over a k03 hybrid. But would cost more though.

speaking of sleepers: how about buying an S3 and change the front arches, the bumper, rear bumper etc and make it look like a standard a3. whilst you're at it, stick a 1.6 badge on the back and steel rims. the ULTIMATE sleeper :-D

Subjective at best... K04 is a different fitment to the K03... different mani, different DP, differnt intake and in the case of pipe work it would have to be all custom or robbed from and S3/TT/LCR...

K03 hybrid Ibizas have seen over 280bhp on Badger 5's dyno... that is more than any stage 1 S3 seen on the same dyno... the caveat of course is the Ibizas generally have large front mounts, 2.5" or 3" DP's and rods as K03 hybrids are spiky buggers...

K03 hybrid is the easiest route, arguably cheaper than a K04 conversion and would be a nice street sleeper showing up most of the S3's on this forum...

cheers for the info mate! ive got 2.5" i/c pipework at the moment so would only need a bigger core, downpipe would have to be made and id just get my current turbo converted into a hybrid, that' said, do you think my budget is realistic? ive got coilovers and am hunting for s3 brake carriers and i'll be using a standard s3 catback and cats if possible just to keep noise down and ive read (by you actually) that they arent very restrictive anyway?

thanks again for the info :icon_thumright:

To fit a K03 hybrid you will need as a minimum... S3/TT/LCR (210 or 225) injectors, S3/TT/LCR MAF, silicone TIP and 80mm filter, custom mapping....

Don't know what FMIC you have (assuming turbo revs type kit fom ebay?) so can't say... anything is better than the std side mount...

DP on S3's and TQS are rubbish, a decent 2.5" or 3" DP with 200 cell CAT will do the job... std CATs are ok but on the TQS they are dual CATS like the S3... no point in trying to reuse them if you can get away with it... they generally need cutting off anyway as the bolts fixing the CAT to the DP get so rusty you usually need to air chisel them off...

Have a butchers at this... Bill has done a few now and is getting good results...

If you can budget for it then factor in rods too as Bill won't turn the boost up on hybrids he has done without them...

I was refering to the work involved to remove, refit and rebuild.

It wouldn't take anylonger to fit a K04 hybrid over a K03 Hybrid.

By the time you've removed the manifold, turbo, exhaust, injectors, tip and fitted new rods to make way for new K03 hybrid stuff you may as well fit K04 stuff.

The K04 isn't a straight forward fit, everything is in a different place... its an easier job to do a K03 hybrid... trust me I have done a few now... the mani is easier to remove/refit and arguably flows better than the K04 one... the DP is easier to remove and refit... its just easier... I would rather work on a K03 turbo'd car than a K04 turbo'd car any day of the week...

The K03 hybrid is essentially designed to be a bolt on upgrade to the K03 and with the right kit WILL produce more power than a std K04... a K04 hybrid will need larger injectors, bigger pipework, larger FMIC etc as you heading over the 300bhp mark... its all doable of course if you have the resolve but don't discount the K03 hybrid as an option...

If you haven't got doner parts from an S3 then some stuff will need to be fabricated... considering the budget and the fact its to include labour then K03 hybrid is the sensible choice...

back to the topic... :)

I BEG TO DIFFER i had 1000's to spend and i wanted to be different and have one of the fastest TQS a3's in the country. if your gonna spend 1000's then it doesnt matter which car you start with cos you will still need to upgrade the internals either way

let's go back to semantics... i did say if I had £1000s to spend. each to their own when it comes to what you want to spend on your own car.
