3inch tip tests on dane's s3 from today

Someone explain something to me please, i dont get how bills 3" tip is almost 20lbft down over the std TIP if you look at the second rolling road graph or is it a trade off more bhp less torque?

for some reason it hasnt peaked as high but the figure holds up high throughout the RPM range resullting in more overall bhp. BHP is just a calculation from torque and engine speed resulting in a total figure.

dude...
I would'nt get hung up on the headline numbers... which are subject to lottery of course... look at the gains before to after... and 28.9bhp combined with his update from stage 1 to stage 2 map, working with the 3inch TIP made for a significant step change in figures.. I said as much in the originators post on SCN, as 300bhp figures from k04, do seem high, but who knows, we're definately getting closer to seeing them happen now. Reliable hi-flow exhaust manifold *might* just tip the balance into a sustainable 300bhp from k04... you never know. it might happen.

fair enough mate :)

nobody liked my snazzy drawing? lol :(

thanks mate LOL

I reckon that dude from *make a name up*istan above likes it too.

I bet that's what it says. It's not selling handbags, or advertising stuff, it's saying:

"You know what Dave, the picture is effin immense!"

damn straight i confirmed it on the russian to english translator

LIES! It's something about relationships, and onions.

Just merely expressing the fact my well assembled drawing relates to the beauty of a well peeled onion and my drawing encapsulates the relationship between my creative mind and modern technology.

:p

Nigh on £246.34 delivered if i've done my sums right.
That could be the polished version, can't remember which I spec'd.

Err can we rewind as I've been away from this forum far to long?! Can someone spell this out to a thicko like me as I'm sure I can't be understanding this correctly?! So Badger 5 has been inspired by another member from what I've read and has been able to produce a new 'TIP Kit' that RR on a re-mapped S3 with no other mods (such as mine) CAN RELEASE an extra 20bhp potentially? (I know it's not about the numbers but that's what I've read) WHAT THE HELL WHERE HAVE I BEEN LOL?! So I have an uprated Forge silicone TIP I'm running.... how does this possibly release so much power? Or am I not understanding this correctly lol?! If it's true Badger 5 you'll be knighted for this!

its true Fran uve been gone a while lol It has a 3" neck all the way through the TIP so there are no bottlenecks. Even the forge one has a smaller diameter at the bottom than top some even more improvements can be made by have the free flowing 3" top to bottom

OH MY FLIPPING DAYS THEN! Def will be taking a trip to Badger 5 later this year when it warms up then to have this little baby fitted lol..... (If he doesn't mind haha!) Wow that's amazing!

Evening chaps, just thought I'd add my feedback now I have had a chance to drive the car on non icy/snowy roads.

The difference is grin inducing, the car pulls a lot stronger higher up the rev range, keeps you in the back of your seat for longer and I haven't really noticed an increase in lag. It currently has a cone filter fitted and whilst it's a bit louder and you can hear the dv better it doesn't make a racket in the car.

When I do the air box mod to stealthily hide the cone filter you won't be able to tell the difference from a forge tip either.

Thus far it really is as good as it sounds couldn't recommend it more!

Awesome cheers Dane! I still can't believe this mod has actually been discovered... it's like a remap stage 2 ... but isn't!! (with no other million and one bolt ons!) lol

Personally I'll keep my airbox I think if I end up doing this as I like the OEM look and noise...

you would benefit more with a JR filter, Tuffty is currently lookign at getting the JR filter hidden in the standard air box

how do i order one of these TIPs then?
and are they hard to fit?

I emailed bill bout 10days ago, but not heard back

sorry dude.. dunno where your email went.
more info is in my badger5 section on SCn forum.. where I am an advertiser..
full 76mm/3" k04 LCR/S3/TT TIP gauging interest.. - SEAT Cupra.net - SEAT Forum

not hard to fit but a bit fiddly - took me an hour to fit one properly.

Several LCR guys are running them now on their k04's and the same gains are being see and more so when combined with stage 2 mapping... top end sustained torque is what they give.. keeps the power pulling longer

no... not that much for TIP.. would be nice tho (for me - lol)
£236ish with JR filter non polished approx price

ive just resent the email bill, let me know if its came through this time :)

Ok cool thanks Bill.... are there still gains to be had without the stage 2 mapping as mine wasn't mapped by yourself (APS) so I'm guessing you'd have to start all over again with my map with yours and then adding stage 2 (which prob won't be very cost effective)

Will check the link out, thanks Bill. You must be blinking poplular now lol.

Yeah sounds perfect if the JR filter could be enclosed... will await the development on this. :)

If I remember reading something correctly, there should be gains without mapping as the ECU on a AMK will automatically adjust the fuelling accordly to the amount of air flow the MAF is reading. The older ECU couldnt and had to be adjusted manually via mapping gear.

To get the best it would be best to get your map adjusted maybe but the ECU should be able to adjust to a certain degree.

My car made 271 one the stage one map then it made 278 with Bills custom map

Remember Danes was only stage 1 and an otherwise stock car (aside from having rods in it)
It gained nigh on 20bhp bolt on, JR + 3inch TIP

Not stage 2 map on it, a regular stage 1 and it gained a lot.
No adjustments to map were made on the test.. it just gained. Wideband cars control their own fueling under boost so they self adjust. Earlier ones like wellys are'nt the same.. on his I had to add fueling into map or via unisettings as a crude fix.

I did fiddle with the map afterwards and did a badger5 on it, and it went up to 278bhp, which is high for a car with so few mods.

regards
bill

Awesome thanks Badger that's spot on, wow what a gain! Mine is the 2001 AMK engine so I presume that would be able to self adjust the fueling. Very impressed. Keep us updated on the enclosed JR cone progress - would be v interested in that if you manage to develop that. :)

Lastly out of interest are you able to tweak any map or just your own? I.e say mine as it has an APS map on it.

wow, this 3" TIP has inspired alot of excitement across the 1.8T KO4 community! Any tests on a completely standard un-mapped 1.8T KO4?

Well im planning on buying one pretty soon and I have a unmapped S3 although I have stage 2 mods will be interesting to see what results can be had from a unmapped S3

So on early S3's, like Wellys, what sort of gain would be seen without altering the map?

Can the changes you needed to make to Wellys fueling be made to a Custom Code Stage 1 map using CustomSettings?

I really must got round to painting mine and doing some logs. Mind wonder what the logs will look like with the clutch slipping

Yep, sorry, I added the filter and polished bits in to my calculation.

Very, very tempted, but not sure how long i'm keeping the car for...

nope not yet. not seen one come by here..
if there's a willing victim, I will sell one & fit it for free and do a before/after dyno for them

i will be interested in yours steve, see if surge is an issue on your hybrid with the increased g/s the 3inch tip will give...
we are working on a spec2 hybrid currently following a hybrid vs hi-flow mani- vs hi-flow tip surge issue on an LCR. Increasing the flow from these other parts has changed the opertating conditions, with an unwanted (on CR hybrid) side effect. Resolution being worked on now

clutch needs to be done - tip + more power aint going to help it!

if it goes chuff chuff when fitted let me know immediately please... and dont rag it like it if it does it

almost worth taking somebodys car back to standard map.

Recieved My TIP+ filter today (thanks Bill). It is a monster. Cant wait to get time to fit it.

Bill i would think about patenting the design... I can hear my lathe firing up already :eyebrows:

What ideas have you got bill to try and stop compressor surge on the engines that have experienced it.

well mine is an example of an unadulterated engine, whats the cost?
