Down south,
I would like to fit cruise control to my car but im confused about what im gonna need, ive read a few threads suggesting i will need a control module as i dont have a MFSW, yet i read on a website that most sports and S-lines already have the right control module, just wondering if anyone can confirm what i will need, and if anyone has part numbers and prices of parts required that would be cool, car is an 06 2.0TDI S-line,

Well if it's any help my 06 s-line had the correct module so was an easy install requiring only the new stalk set and steering wheel underside (the old underside can be modded to fit the new stalk but better just buying the correct one and doing it right)

Cost around £80 in total, OEM part kit from eBay and then the VagCom coding

thanks very much, any idea how i would find out if i have the right one?

either take it off and look at part number
or get it scanned with vcds to check part

Yes can be done in VagCom module16 I believe, couldn't tell you what the one you need to have is though, beyond my knowledge....I just took a chance that mine would have the correct one and it worked perfect so happy days lol

Check with Nige.

I had cruise control as std but i still needed a new module when i fitted MFSW so its poss to have a non MFSW module and cruise.

As Mike said, that page is the best source of finding out if your module will support the retrofit.

What that document also says to me is that if you have the onboard computer (mpg/range etc) then Cruise will be supported, as this would fit under Type 2.

But to be sure I would also check the Module. This document can give you a guideline of what module you have just by knowing the registered date: here.

How did you get on with this Dan?

not even had a chance to look into it yet, im gonna ring my local vag specialist sometime soon see how much they'll do it for, will post results as and when i get to it,

was thinking if you are going to the bother of replacing the ECU you should get one suitable for multi-function so you can do that down the line, you may want a flat bottom

deffinatly thinkin flat bottom at some point, i need to confirm whats in it at the moment though, where does the control module live?

ok so i went to my local specialist today, and they said i couldnt have cruise control fitted, but from what i have read online if i have a computer on my DIS i have the control module that will support cruise control, is there any gurus out there that can help me out im gettin confused as to what to believe now?

I have a 2006 2.0Tdi Sportback and I fitted cruise control to it in an hour and it cost £82 for the bits from Stoke Audi.

PM me your VIN and I'll tell you whether you need a new steering module as well as the stalk and cowl.

On the other hand, if you PM Dave at Stoke Audi he will give you a quote for the bits and make sure they are the right ones !

There talking ******, as someone has posted my guide is above, it's easy. You wont need the control wire, and if you have DIS, I would bet that you dont need to change the steering ECU but you could seen as you have it off and then it's ready for flat bottom wheel.

The only thing you need to do is change the stalk and code the engine ECU and steering ECU, using VCDS and your done.

And having a DIS has nothing to do with whether or not you can have CC.

Just depends if you need a different steering module.

From my understanding, if you have DIS then you have the minimum of a midline ECU and therefore supports CC.

oh and jb0o - when you ripped my guide I thought you were going to give a bit better credit than you have!

Yeah Jonesy - you are correct in what you say but :-

What I said was that you don't have to have a DIS to have CC.

What you said is that if you have a DIS it will support CC.

Not quite the same thing I'm sure you will agree ?

Just to clarify for anyone confused - and this is not ripping anything from anybody 'cos I know and have done it :-

you can fit CC to any 8P, DIS or not, as long as you have the correct steering module. If you don't have the correct one already in your car it can be replaced with the correct one, and together with an extra wire (and obviously the other bits) you can have CC.

To be fair am in a ****** mood tonight, am maybe am being a bit funny.... hmmmm
