hey guys... am looking at changing my standard MFSW to a FBMFSW, but before i start getting parts i want to make sure im getting the right parts...

1st: will i need a new slip-ring?
2nd: am i right in thinking that any non paddle shift FBMFSW will fit, its just a case of what one i want?
3rd: this is going to be the more vital part i feel, the airbag, part number wise, would this one work? 8E0 880 201 CT 6PS or 4E0 880 201 BH 6PS?

any help or pointers will be fantastic!

i will ideally, but wil see what is available and what i can afford, main thing is working out what airbag works, then i can pick & choose the wheel

maybe you can fit your old air bag? s3 and tt-rs fbsw should have same airbag.

i dont have the FBSW, got the older style fully round one, which is why i want to change

... how come you cant have the flat bottom one?
cool if i do the swap will sort you out with my standard S3 wheel

If you have mfsw already then slip ring & steering cu are correct & only the wheel/bag would be needed.

Any wheel will fit, paddles, non, tt, a3, s3, a4 etc all use the same spline, but the internal loom in the wheel for a4 is different & needs a pin swop, however, just grab a TT/S3 complete wheel & tbh I may know someone who has one for sale, PM if interested.

I would buy a complete wheel instead of wheel & bag seperately.

When fitting just disconnect battery swap wheel etc over & reconnect thus avoiding any airbag lights unless new wheel or car has previous issues.

My car older so i dont have the new airbag system and i think it was only on 55reg and above that they are a direct fit to.
Sure NHN or some one else can confirm this though

you can't have his S3 wheel either, sorry. well, you can but the airbag won't work.

apparently HazzyDayz can wire your single stage airbag into the newer dual stage so the dual stage works like a single stage (which would then allow you to have either the FBSW or any 8P2 onwards wheel) but you'd only know if it worked when you had a crash - and by then it'll be too late to do anything about it if it DOESN'T work

i looked into doing this for my 2005/54 8P1 1.6 and the answer is a resounding "no go"

Thought that issue was only for FBSW didnt think it was for the other steering wheel (this is the one im on about and tend to fit) http://www.tyresmoke.net/attachments/1296483-MYA3011.jpg

8P1s can only have other 8P1 steering wheels (which doesn't include the wheel in the photo!)

8P2 onwards (incl. any age of sportback) have dual stage airbags which the 8P1s didn't have. there have been instances of older cars with newer wheels and the airbag didn't go off. sorry fella

gay have to speak to HazzyDayz company bit on the expensive side mind.
Thanks for clearing that up Sub

yeah they are expensive, but if - heaven forbid - you were in an accident and your airbag didn't go off at least you could go back to them and get your money back, likely with some compensation. they've got more of an incentive to get it right.

Haha compensation sounds good but my policy would be void so they have to pay for my car and the damage to my face and the money i just want haha :) I'll give them a call in a few months and go from there

Didn't know about this problem on pre 05 A3 :uhm:
And i almost wasted 600€ on a FBMFSW... But is therfe any known way to retrofit the new MFSW to pre 05 A3?

Regards

Look at Sub post number 11 or pm NHN i think he fitted a fbsw to his 04 A3

That comment about fbsw and older cars nearly made me spit my mouthful of tea across my laptop! Thankfully sub's comments about not effecting SB's allowed me to gulp in peace, lol!

I have one of the wheels you pictured Ash, S line, MF, perforated leather with F1 (F for Flappy lmao!) paddles. Will be for sale soon :eyebrows: as this wee beaut will be going on in it's place

haha you have a bit of a heart in mouth moment lol
wheel looks good mate, the airbag turned up yet?

****** seller sent it out yesterday even though I paid for it 5 days ago! Arrgghhh, ah well no rush as I have a few tweaks I'm trying to get together and fit all at once. At least he sent it track n trace, I see it may arrive today :)

My misses will now I've given her a heads up, or did I give her that last night :eyebrows::wub: lmao! Some of us have to work u know :D

haha
i have work... lots of work to do, i just dont get paid for it :(

Heeheee.... why's that then? Studying??

yea... it sucks
i got to submit all my first terms work tomorrow, absolutely crappin it haha

That FB wheel airbag will not work on a 05 A3.

Which 05' A3 Paddy? I think they're fine for the SB's

As far as i know the SB 05 did not have a stage 2 system and will not work the later round airbags. You need to check with NMN ( nige ) to be sure.

54 reg mate registered 18th of feb 2005. How you getting on with the skirts?

Everything bought and paid for about a month ago but havnt had a chance to get them painted/fitted yet lol although will be sorted soon enough, actually havnt bought the S3 marked sill plates as I want to see what way the s-line ones would need to be nodded to fit, if it's not tidy job then il just buy the S3 ones

So just to clarify, no fitting issues for post 2005 cars? Provided ECU/Slip ring correct for the multi-function

Paddy you had me sweating for a min there mate!!

Seems if you have the shield type airbag as shown in link by benskin above (as standard) on your car then you have the dual airbag sys and may upgrade to fbsw. I had the non-mfsw as standard which was upgraded to the mfsw which will now be upgraded to the one I pictured above. Just to clarify for anyone who may read in future or wants to do a swap soon :)

Sorry RS...A coffee all over the keyboard moment eh...:)

The sline sills will not fit over the S3 skirts, end of, the S3 sills are taller as they actually go over the top of the skirts that actually fit over the area where the seals sit anyway, the Sline sills are to short as in height, trust me smoothie it isnt going to happen, need to buy S3 sills.
