RS3 Discussion Thread

How about we throw in a mk1 MR2 into the equation as hairdressers cars seem the order of the moment.

**** ME!!!! I am not going to slag the RS3 off just because I have now got a cayman S BUT I just roughly spec'd one up to match what my S3 had on. It came to circa £45-46K!!!!! Thats absolutely riduculous!!!!

If anyone pays that they want there head seeing too. As good as it maybe there is no way its worth that amount of money. I agree it would be awesome but should be 40K all in.

On a side note today was my first go in the cayman S, although I have no teeth left with the harsh ride, honestly you must all go and drive a cayman S. I know some people can't have a 2 seater but please listen to other peopls comments when they say cayman S is a very good handling car / engine.

I'm not one for boasting at all so please don't take this post the wrong way! Just my update for the day.

Dave

Got to agree with you on the price of the RS3 Dave, silly money, auto and a sportback, it's all gone wrong. I certainly won't be considering buying one, anyway just in the process of changing my car again.
Surprised at you comments re the harsh ride in the Cayman S, I thought the ride quality was really good, try a 1 series M-Sport BMW thats harsh mate.

You sold your S3 yet ??

Mark

I dont think you lot are comparing like for like, price up an S3 DSG Sportback, with the RS3 options, I dont think the price is really all that bad, not sure things like buckets seats are even cheaper on RS3 over S3.

Poking in the Dark, how many NEW cars can you buy that does 0-62 in 4.6 for less money? sure there cannot be many, and then make the RS3 stage one, prob gonna hit 60 in pretty well on 4 secs, certainly not a lot more.

I agree many thing they could have done to give other more options, but I am sure it meets some peoples requirements

Yes the S3 sold 3 days ago, gone but never forgotten. Will always be poking round here though and the planet 9 forum.

If you spec an S3 up and RS3 similar spec I bet there is easy 10-15k more. I started on an RS3 and I got to around 45K and gave up because then your in to alot of money for an RS3 in A3 body form.

However it will be a good car, but who has that ammount of money for a car like that.

David

Am i right in thinking that in the brochure the mats for the RS3 are £450!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just in case anyone is interested, Auto Express are doing a 'Driven' test on the new RS3 in next week's magazine due our Wednesday 12 January.

Well after all that I've decided not to order one - sent an email to the Dealers confirming so and arranged to go and see them next week to get my £500 deposit back.

Maybe second hand in 3 years time...

Got to admit I am sitting on the fence, and more towards not bothering, and getting my deposit back, just some things I am not happy with, maybe some real world tests may change my mind. Just wish I could get my S3 bottom end torque up a fair bit more.

Plenty of views posted on the RS3 across VAG forums and yet hardly anyone seems to be ready to order one. The price, and the fact its based on a very old platform seems and limited to DSG SB flavour seem to be its achilles.
Surely this is a car that should appeal to the enthusiasts (us) and yet its would appear so far to have largely failed in that regard.

So who will buy them?

Not me lol, i did think about one until i found out it was DSG only and 5 door, as i think all hot hatches look better in 3 door. I could of just about coped with the price and the old platform but not without the involment the manual interface gives you with the car.

If my S3 was a year older, I would find it had not to.
See for me DSG I would anyhow, 5 Door not so keen, but not a deal breaker, Price again sure it is a lot, (a discount would be the biggest tempter but that ain't gonna happen, though in a yr they might not be selling that well to offer discounts to get shot of them), but it would not stop me, it is the other little things that annoy me, like Buckets in an RS should be standard, I don't want it to be lower, or make it adjustable, old sat nav, and ignition key etc.
The old platform yes when you spend that amount on a new car especially from an S3 it is harder to appeciate it, maybe it is other drivers from other makes that are gonna snap them up, not ex S3 drivers
The real deal grabber is the engine :(, but so far I am still more no I not gonna do it yet.

Already ordered, so thats one at least!

Where in Scotland are you ;-) LOL

Buckets should be standard with option not to have them. It should also have its own air vent design, RS3 on the glovebox handle & the LEDs on the air con should be white to match the speedo and thats just cheap to change things.

I see its only 80kg heavier than S3 or 40 kg than the 3.2

The proof will be in the reviews, it will be fast but will it understeer like mad with the weight of the engine?

i'm still slightly shocked it's £40k... i mean i know that that's to going rate for a limited edition uber-hatch but still

Agree, tis a lot of money but along with the 1 series M it is has pretty much has the `hyper-hatch` niche to itself.
It now just remains to be seen whether anyone wants them and if it will a successful niche at that.
I love the idea of an S3 on steroids with an RS badge just cant get my head around the price.

Looking forward to the first ones getting delivered and hearing the lucky owners views.

Hopefully there will be a few at the shows this year.

cheers
Paul

Ive just had an email off my local garage today, asking if i was wanting one as i said months ago i was intrested. By the time i specced it up with buckets, bose etc it was the thick end of 45K. Fair enough its going to be limited to 500 units but i dont like DSG so not a chance, i can think of loads of performance cars under that ie porsche, astons, etc or just spend 2-3k on the S3 to match the performance of the RS3

To be fair though, 40-45K wouldnt get a New Aston or 911. You would get a Cayman of course but it only has 2 seats, and there lies one of the RS3s trump cards.

cheers
Paul

Yes i suppose but the most people i have in my car is normally 2 which is 99% of the time. So a 2 seater would be ok with me lol

But a high spec S3 Sportback DSG is nearing £35k isn't it?? The RS3 comes with most things as standard plus it will always be an "RS" model and they do seem to hold their money. Look at the original RS4's compared to similar aged M3's... Worth more looking at Autotrader.

The thing that would bug me is this wider wheel at the front business. Having had BMW's in the past, wider wheels belong at the back!!

Exactly. I don't think it is that bad a price in todays market, remembering it is now with 20% VAT, and all the kit that comes with it. Take the extra 2.5% off knocks off a £1000-00, Agreed on the wheel thing, though would you really notice if you did not know?

Got a shout from my dealer today, because of the number of speculators and the small number of cars available the dealers are having to process genuine orders, so I had to spec mine today despite not wanting it till very late this year (need to get the most out of my S3 :) ). Audi also asked for my DOB which was odd, can't say I've ever been asked for that in the past!

Anyways, I'm sure my set up wont be the most popular but I like it
White with black/red wheels, black optics, interior light pack, bucket seats with white stitching, auto dim/wipers/folding wing mirrors, and Bose although I'd love to know if there's any difference between standard and bose other than the name bose on the speakers... I have bose on the S3 but I'm wondering if it's worth it. A bargain at £43.5 k :D

That makes sense as although it isn't a limited edition, there are limited RHD models for the 2011 model year.

Spec sounds very nice tbh there Boab01, I'd like to see that in the flesh, can't say that I' that fond of those wheels though!:ninja: I reckon some RS6 wheels would really go well on it

My car has Bose, and my parents MY2010 Sportback S-Line doesn't and there is a difference in the sound depth and quality. I wouldn't have an Audi without it but that just my opinion...

The wheels have a bit of the JDM bonkersness that I loved so much on the Civic FD2R I owned on the wheels, although I think I'd just have preferred a stripe, I guess I can always paint it black if I hate it. It's perhaps a mistake but I'll need a set of wheels to handle the winter tyres so I guess if they're that disgusting I'll use them. Although I think it may actually be nice. After the white civic I swore I'd never own a white car again but I don't want to pay for the red, and while the black is nice it's worse than the white to keep looking shiny, so I'll stick with the white. If they'd had blue I'd have taken Blue :) I still don't have a confirmed order yet though, the dealer guy in Perth seems to think it shouldn't be a problem as they're well loved by the guys at Audi and I keep buying rediculous cars of them :).

Thanks for the tip on the Bose Scott, I'll keep it if that's the case I just didn't know because I've only owned Audi's with it :)

All these write ups are the same, just spec stuff form Audi I guess, it is a road test and some RL views and proper info on how the suspension set up is with Sport button.

Placed my order last night. Tried to keep it fairly simple (almost identical to my S3) - I've no need for alot of the options that they offer and IMHO I think some of them are a rip off:

Suzuka Grey
Black Styling Pack
Bose
Privacy Glass
Electric Folding Mirrors
NSP

Still to find out if I can afford it, but it's risk free - no deposit and no commitment.

How can you place an order with no deposit?

Wow who needs spell checkers eh?
What the hell is wrong with you? Ease up internet spelling police, perhaps you need to wind your neck in a little and get back on topic?
