Keeping up with mates, its **** full stop, I cant stand it as whats happened to picking up the phone or even "blasphemacy" actually going out to meet up with them, feckbook is making us all unsociable couch potatoes which reminds me of the movie Wall-E.

What's with all the facebook hate? To be fair, it does my nut in too bit has some good points too. For example, keeping in touch with old school mates. And that's about it I guess. Ha

Old school mates you cant be ***** to ring or go out with, so why bother sharing your life with people you had no interest with before sadbook was around, thats whats sad about it.

You really are a bitter man aren't you. I'm sure you're just checking to see what I post and disagree with it to make yourself feel better. Surely that's worse.

And who says I don't meet up with old school mates? Perhaps I lost touch with them and used facebook to get in touch and meet up. I never had a mobile phone at school so didn't have any numbers, I don't live in the same city I used to and didn't fancy aimlessly walking around where I used to live in the hope that I'd bump into them.

And having 12000+ posts on an Audi forum isn't exactly the coolest thing you'll ever do is it? People are different and enjoy different things. You obviously enjoy stalking peoples posts on an Audi forum. ;)

I don't use facebook at all but know plenty who do, and to be fair................

I hate facebook. I dont have it, learnt that lesson a few years back. Once had it, got stalked by psycho ex-gfs and then unregistered. Never again. I find it soo sad when i go out and people ask for me to add them on fb.....**** off!

FB is littered with ********* who you wouldnt normally have contact with, then use it to **** stir and involve others in petty disputes.
Its the individuals who abuse it and have no self control who ruin it IMO.

I have family/friends who have been on the receiving end of peoples reckless and rude comments and so no have interest in it.

The missus goes on FB all of the time and Im astonished with the crap she shows me, particularly when people are clearly ****** and/or off their heads. It seems to make people type out of character rubbish that you know they simply wouldnt say in person, bragging, bitching etc. and thats before any mis-interpretation issues that seem commonplace.

I find that talking, meeting, texting and email quite sufficient to stay in touch with people that matter. Then you have forums to communicate with people that share your interests with the benefits of forum meets where you actyally get to meet some decent like minded `new` folk.

Thats my old fashioned 2p anyway.

to be fair though, that pretty much sums up the while Internet. And as you say, it's the people who have ruined facebook, not the concept of the site itself. I simply don't have anyone on there who I wouldn't associate with. If they annoy me they get deleted.

If people do experience problems with abuse etc on facebook then the type of people they know or have allowed to communicate with them are a bit off-key then, regardless of Facebook.
I've heard of the odd drama on Facebook but the vast majority of people I know who use it have no problems whatsoever as it's all decent and normal friends/acquaintances they've chosen to add as friends, not just randoms who feel no way about chatting crap to you on the net.

Facebook is just a tool, and if used thoughtfully I can see the massive benefits of having it available to use.

Bitter, about what, care to expand on that?

Has my POV changed since you chirped up on this thread? So question is, what are you rambling on about making myself feel better.

Assume you're referring to Kinect thread, is there a rule that states we're not allowed to disagree on more than 1 subject at a time. :banghead:

I think the discussion point & context made it very clear the word "YOU" in my last post wasnt directed at a sole person, but discussing a scenario that many do actually practise on FB, dont see your name mentioned specifically & seems Paul who appears fairly intelligent (albeit likes mankini's) was able to comprehend, so I see no issue.

I dont know what my post count has to do with anything at all with our discussions, strange you mentioning this at all.

I dont use this site to be COOL, I use it as I openly in work & play have a general interest in technology in cars, amongst others things.

However, your scenario has a fair point, but lets be honest here & think most also know this, how many FB users actually practise what you have mentioned, I'd say its in the extremely low percentages, people with 1400 "FRIENDS" or more, says it all.

This I TOTALLY disagree with. We are all creatures of curiosity. As I said, I don't use Facebook but can totally understand why people would want to see what people they used to know etc are doing in their lives years later or what they look like, etc. Just as a matter of interest.
Really don't think it makes it sad doing so.

On here people talk about their personal life, including you, I don't really see it as any different. In fact, it's probably less relevant doing it here because mostly we're all just a bunch of usernames to each other and have never met.

Thats not the main point me & maybe others have issues with TBH, we're talking about the ever increasing idiots that seem to want to advise us of every single piece of crap that excretes from there *****, we dont need to know every single thing every single second of the day about them, yes we're creatures of curiosity agreed there, but do you really want to know when they last picked there **** for spots or just curious how they're getting on, problem is Aythreee the latter is becoming more & more irrelevant to FB by the day, but your points are noted & hold some water.

As for your 2nd paragraph, well maybe to you they're a bunch of usernames, but I've personally met a number of the guys & chatted to fair few on the phone, made some friends, so for me its allot different.

You mention that your post count has nothing to do with the thread. Well, neither do the merits of facebook but you were more than willing to throw your opinions out about that one. If you look back the OP simply asked if there was an AS.net group on facebook. Then the barrage of insults started flying about how crap it was. The OP never asked for anyone's opinion on whether or not facebook was good or not. So perhaps I'm not the only one going off topic slightly. A simple "no there is no such group" would have sufficed. Your post count was mentioned to prove that we all have ways of spending out time. You obviously are very keen on AS.net.

As aythreee said also, I'd rather associate with those people I've actually met hence why I keep in contact with some old real friends through facebook. Now I'm sure you've met members from this site and they've become real friends, but the majority of people on forums we have no clue about. As for random updates, just delete them people or set them to ignore...it's not a hard thing to do. Nobody makes you be friends with anyone on facebook. I know people who have 10 friends, which is all they want. It works well for them that way, and is not difficult to do.

Oh, and OP welcome to the forum. We're not all quite so insulting when you ask a question. ;)

Agree, but having been involved with the negative and destructive effect of reckless FB useage its not for me.
If its one incident in a lifetime then its once too many IMO.

The instances of problems I have seen caused via stupid FB posting couldnt have been caused through any other medium and involved lots more people than necessary because of the open nature FB and its susceptability for mis-use..

I can absolutely see the merits and attraction of FB and dont disregard social network sites out as a successful phenomenon, but in the wrong hands it is a very destructive tool. So for me, if its at arms length then its one less iritation to have to deal with and an excuse to meet my friends for a few beers at the weekend.

Each to there own but I just dont `get it`.
To echo NHNs comments slightly, I also find the whole blow by blow account of peoples day on FB very odd.

cheers
Paul

You've changed your stance slightly here (at least it sounds that way to me). I agree that writing about every last happening is pretty stupid i.e. I'm waiting for a bus and eating a packet of Monster Munch.
But you referred to telling your life to old school mates that you can't be bothered going out with or ringing. I took "life" to mean.... what is going on in your life i.e. work, marriage, kids, photos, etc. And I can totally understand this sort of arms length information sharing.

As for my 'bunch of usernames' comment, what I really mean is.... what we write on this site we have no control over who see's it, unlike on facebook.
You may have made some good friends on here, but what you write outside of a PM is there for all to see, and as such, using you as an example.... I know your full name, the country you live in, your child's name, how her birth went, what your missus looks like, roughly what your personality is like, some of your interests (mankinis??), a bit about your medical history, and i'm sure there is more if I thought about it. I'm not a stalker, I'm just a guy who can read and has a memory, I've never seen you or even heard your voice, and all that info was gleaned from just reading what you've written on a website that is there for all to see, without even needing to be a member.

So that is essentially why I find your issue with facebook a bit disagreeable. But with respect mate

And to sum up FB!!! its good if you use it what its made for... If you bitch on it... its pretty clear ur a pussy and can't do it to who evers face... Facebooks good for me because my family now live in Abu Dhabi and to upload pics to an email takes forever, Texting pictures would cost an arm and leg, so fb is just easier... My God so many negative people, Cheer up!

lots of anger here
please less swearing
