ive got the old style keys for my a3 and want to buy one off e-bay and i wanted to ask if you guys would be kind enough to check the key numbers and tell me what you have so that i can get one similar as ive found the a4 ones different,my numbers are HLO 8PO 837 231 on my old style keys at the moment....im thinking of transfering the immob chip over to the new key? if it will work.

afaik the new keys arent reprogrammable youll end up having to buy most of the bits again from the dealer

im guessing they mean the one with the stainless steel strip down the side?

I did a thread on the 05 onwards keys that can be used on pre 05 8P's.

You cant reprogram the megamos 48 chips on the 8P, so transferring or get a new one, but new one needs the vin & brand encoded on the chip before can be matched with car immo, you can buy the 05 onwards keys new from audi which will be coded 50 percent by germany then rest at dealer, which is how I did.

You didn't tell him how much mate !!! lol

Actually there has been progress on this. My local VAG approved garage has a piece of kit, that has been approved by Audi, that allows them to read the one 'bit' of information that Audi Germany encode. He also has the laser cutting gear to cut the new key. He needs the car for about half an hour to scan for this info. and can then reprogram everything (apparently ! )

I will let you know how I go on and how much he charged because I already bought the key fob off ebay 12 months ago.

the problem aint reading the code theres plenty of kit out there to brute force it out, but however if he can program the key great, ive not tried mine yet

£300, which pipe you been smoking, £150 tops if that with price increases, I got cause I cant stand the older ones & they were fairly worn, plus I broke an immo chip lmfao.

I just did. post 13 :p

I dont know of any vag approved aftermarket unit that can be used to drag the skc from the car, afaik only VAS units are approved by VAG Mike & even those dont take the skc anymore, they do it all behind the curtain as such now, no viewing of skc possible, if you have the name of the unit then be interested to know as I know of a number of devices out there in the wild.

Also dont need a laser cutting tool, I've had all my keys cut by a metal cutting machines even by audi.

:applaus::asskicking:LOL !!!

Lmfao, hey it was the 1st go & that glue that sticks them in is a bitch to remove, ok not anymore as got the knack, but its well routed in the plastics.

whats best way to remove it how did you? im thinking getting the key off e-bay coding in the remote, removing the chip from my old key and hopefully its done!

You need to use a surgical type knife so its very thin & very very slowly work away at the glue by creating a channel next to the chip as such, you could dremel round it & destroy your old key, but any pressure against the glass chip will crack & render it useless, so try to work the channel so its not pressure against the chip & slowly/patiently you will get it out, done number of keys now with success, key is (scuse the pun) to be patient & not a bull in china....................

ok,thanks for that NHN il source a key now, aslong as i get the right mhz is that ok do you know? mine is HLO 8PO 837 231 hella -434 mhz the new one are 8p0 837 220D some start with 8E and some with 4 FO will they all be compatible,or have i got to match the mhz numbers? and get the one starting 8p0 ?

No, make sure its specifically an 8P key part number, 8E as in A4 etc wont work with 8P even if same frequency & same shape/look, take my word for that, the usual one for UK is the 8P0837220D iirc

Mine is a later type key, its a 58 plate S3 if thats any help to you. They are a bit longer than the old type

That superseded to the D, but grab the D if you can

Is it one of those old fashion things that you stick in a lock and twist ?...lol I expect one day Audi will go keyless like a 6 year old Datsun Micra.

Datsuns have all been keyless Paddy, you have to wind the feckers up to run the hairdryers in them.

LOL...dont tell me the TT doesn't have a hair dryer as well :)..and curling tongs :)

Aye, Kessy for the new A3 model!

TBH, i'd be happy to use my mobile phone attached to my wrist to unlock the doors & automatcally enable ignition system to use a start button or speak into my hands free - "unlock", "start", "stop" etc LOL

mmmm, think my brains been out in the cold too much today!

The TT is a datsun in disguise, just goes to show those sneaky ****** japs are taking over the auto world huh

Only if she knocks her head on them mate.

Been to the pub and logged back on to this thread and haven't a clue what's going on !!

Question :- How much for a spare key for my A3 MY2006 (new style key fob ) that actually works properly and doesn't cost Audi prices , and where can I get one ?

I only got 1 with the car and need a safety net ( and also a spare key !) This boozing has to stop :crying:
