Hi chaps and chapessess,

Im looking to buy a year old used a3 black edition 2.0tdi sportback.
I currently own a 56plate a3 s-line 2.0tdi sportback.

I have a few questions and would appreciate any advice or opinion.

Is it worth while going for a 170bhp or is it cheaper to go for the 140bhp and get it remapped or use something like blufin? would i need to change the brakes or clutch if i got the 140 remapped?

Why do some 140s have twin exhaust and some just the single?

How much will the audi dealer realistically give me for mine as a part exchange?
here are some details:

Phantom black Audi A3 2.0 tdi 170bhp
6 speed auto dsg
Mileage: 50,000
Sline
leather
Bose sound system (6 cd changer)
Phone prep, bluetooth.
no mods.
FSH.

Anyone here with a black edition? how do you like it? any problems?

Thanks in advance guys.

If you are already talking about a remap then go for the 170, a mapped car is likely to be more to insure than a bog standard 170.

Regarding the clutch/brakes, I'm not 100% sure but im pretty confident the brakes and clutch between the two cars will be the same.

As for a trade in value, 9/10k maybe, which probably isn't what you want to hear.

hell no, especially when they resell them for 15k+.
If thats the case id rather sell it privately.
I think i'd laugh in their face with that kind of offer , i cant believe they would offer so little.

I had a quick look at used Audi site and a 50k mile 56 plate is going to retail at about 12k so look for £10k px imho

Audi A3 2.0 TDI DPF (170 PS) Sport

The problem is at 50k miles most main dealers will put it out to trade. Sad but true :(

only the very latest 140s have a single exhaust, the MY11+ cars. if you're looking for a year old model it'll still have dual tips

We have the 170 Quattro on an 08 Plate . Phantom Black Panoramic Open sky roof 20 spokes, etc etc.. selling it tomorrow. New BE arrives March our 4th 8P!

I would always go for a 170 Quattro, cracking car. All 170 have twin exhausts, earlier 140 did too pre MY 2011 but the pipes often turned down slightly and didn't have the chrome embellishers. Our car is worth £16500 on px and will go up for sale at £19000 + I reckon yours is worth between 9-10k. Dealers tend to add at least 2-3k on the px price to cover refurb, tyres Warranty etc + of course a profit!

Try We buy any car.com and add acouple of grand for an idea!!

It is worth test driving a Quattro if you haven't, they are planted on the road. The FWD doesn't do it for me I am afraid.

We Buy Any Car for an idea?! Are you serious?! I tried that for a laugh a while ago and they offered something daft like £12k for my then 6 month old S3!

Absolutely serious... get a price from them and add about 25 - 30% gives you an idea of what a dealer might get. 57 Golf Tdi MAtch 7520, dealers asking 9995-10995

Isn't that a bit hit and miss? I mean, where does 25-30% come from, is that finger to the wind? You may as well say look at similar cars for sale on Audi Used and reduce it by 25-30%...?

Failing that, trawl through autotrader and get an average price from the ones on there for sale, look in the Glasses/Parkers guides.

You should then have a good idea of the kind of prices they go for in different places, then surely thats enough to make a good educated estimate of the price of your car?

As said Autotrader is the best guage of prices, plus prices vary all over the country. London cars are worth more than Northern cars!!!...

I read in a trade magazine recently that Webuyanycar is the worst place to sell and 'their quotes are typically 30% behind retail' ... only passing on what I read and verified with a recent Golf Purchase.

£3k + 30% is just under £4k... not £6.5k.

I got offered a 2004 04 Reg 2.0Tdi Sport 90k miles, rear park and Bose + full history for £4000 in August. Unfortunately what folks think their cars are 'worth' is rarely the case.

I'd be interested in your sportsback! Let me know if selling....

The best thing about WBAC is you have to pay them..to tell you what they will give you ? whats all that about !!

i found cars in by london are a lot cheaper than cars up north as i live in the north west and its worth traveling to london when they are like 1k - 2k cheaper. i found when i sold my previous car that glasses guide was the closest to what dealers would give me in part ex.

ok guys, just an update.

firstly i px'ed the old audi for 11.5 and bought a 09 plate black edition which i thought was a 140 bhp, we agreed a price over the phone and when i picked it up today the salesman said they had made a mistake and that it was infact a 170 and had to sell at the agreed price which is alot lower than a similar specced 170.

is there a way of finding out if it really is a 170?
this is the description of the car on the log book;

Audi A3 S Line Sp Ed Tdi168 Sa (5 Door Hatchback)

if this is the case has my xmas come early?

168 = bhp. you got a 170. you're a lucky guy lol

took the car out for a bit of drive yesterday and can not believe the difference in the engine between the new cr engine and the previous engine.
the car feels so much more refined and solid and a lot quicker too.
absoloutley love it
