which h7 bulbs?

with the bad weather here im looking to put some brighter, more white looking bulbs in my headlights

ive h7 in both dip and main beam fitted as standard,

i dont want to really go down the hid route , mainly due to cost at the moment, so looking for some upgrade suggestions , also want to replace the sidelight bulbs as they are very yellow looking

should of thought of this in the summer lol

Hello mate. I,ve just fitted some LED sidelights and number plate lights to mine. Looks pretty good WITHOUT looking even the slightest bit chavvy (there white LED's of course!lol). You can get these for about a 8 quid at most auto stores. Dipped beam wise, dropped in some Osram nightbreakers a while back and it makes a difference, but thought I could do better so bought some Phillips high performance bulbs (dipped beam only, hardly ever use my full beams so thought I'de save some money!) which made a hell of a difference. 30 quid for 2, but well worth it! You can get these from ECP.

Hi there-did you have to use resistors across the sidelight feed to get them to work?
mine are the H6W LED style sidelights for facelifted version and no luck so far...
 
No, they should jsut work.

Resistors are only for cars that monitor the bulbs, and the B5 doesnt monitor front sidelights.

LEDs are polarised though, so try fitting the bulb the other way round.

You can't fit them the H6W style LED's the other way round i'm afraid as the pins are offset to stop this.
I originally bought some 501 type bulbs but they dont fit my headlamps.
It's interesting that you say the B5 doesn't monitor sidelight bulbs as mine now say there is bulb out and i assumed it was my sidelight bulb as it has blown.
I need to go and check all the bulbs in that case...

Yes just checked and the rear tail is out which went coincidentally when i plugged in the new LED side light...they are same side(drivers)
Is there a common fuse for sidelight and rear tail?

Ahh yes looks like its fuse 22 as just checked manual...
Looks like ive been running around for a week with a duff taillight so, thanks for the pointer!
 
This may be off topic but i remember some led H6W fitting to a 5 series turned out the polarity was the other way round and also on the map lights in the B5 . so if both aint working try the originals back in see if they still work
 
Hello mate yes they were plug and play, no resistors needed. I have tried the Osram Nightbreaker Plus and honestly the Phillips variants are better. The ONB's are good, but not so as the X-tremes.....
 
Are we taking Phillips extreme vision or Phillips extreme power as both variants are offered? Vision states 100% light, power claims 80% more? Maybe there both better than ONB's?
 
We're talking about the X-Treme vision NOT power. Performance aside theres like a 20 quid price difference! A lot of money for two bulbs but IMO well worth it. The best you can do shy of Xenons/HID conversion (which is a major ball-ache due to all the extra stuff you need for them to be legal!).

Hi Andy-No it was a fuse gone caused by my LED replacements and my schoolboy error of trying to change it while still switched on...I have some fleabay LEDS in now so we'll see how good they are.
I'm grateful for all the useful help as this isn't a good time of year to be driving around with a duff stop/tail light-if you know what i mean...
