Hi there .. About to start the removal of my engine due to a cracked block ..
Anyways thinking whilst it's out mayswell treat it :-D so was thinking bigger turbo been offered a gt30r for £300 but how much are k04 hybrids ??
Also what kind of price for forged rods ?
Already got prety much else fmic , full system Inc decat , fuel pump ... So prety much just need Downpipe and 440 injectors ..
Got a few weeks to decide anyways but know I'll be getting about 340 bhp off gt30r just not sure on k04 hybrid

These a lot more to the GT30 than you think and will cost a hell of a lot more but you will need 630cc or bigger for a GT30 and inline pump

Hybrids are £700 but i will have one for sale next year with only 1k miles on it, i will also have some 440cc unused.

Rods are £300 ish from Badger at a Badger 3in TIP to the hybrid and you be happy

Oh I've been told new manifold , Downpipe , injectors , rods , different feeds for turbo and a map ...
Tip ??
How much are you wanting for yours then ??

Hi there, not being funny but unless you have a bottomless pocket (doubtful as you have been trying to get a cheap block on another thread)
you really need to sit down and decide what you want, the gt30 route can mount up financially very quickly if you dont do your own fabs etc.
the cheaper option is the hybrid and is a direct bolt on, you would be wise to do the rods while you are there, and need bigger injectors + custom remap
Theres loads of info on here to sway you one way or the other, but doing it on the fly like you seem to be doing, may bite you in the ***.....
just my opinion of course.....and good luck with it, why dont you do your own build thread?
There are plenty of guys on here with the knowledge to help you every step of the way if need be....

Well not much point paying £1000 for a block when it's going to get fully Forged is there ??
Ive got 2k but the aim is to get 350 bhp just thought mayswell just do the full hit whilst it's out :) as it's a pain doing the turbo with the engine in ..
Not sure what to do suppose could just do rods then wait for a while ..

in what state of tune is your S3 at know and do you plan to do all the work apart from mapping yourself? with the kind of budget you have id be saying hybrid although i think my bills toll up to more than that but i just had a mapped S3 when i started everything else was standard. This modding lark aint cheap

£500 for the Turbo and £180 for the injectors

I'm getting my GT30 next year but it will be some time before i fit it

hmm, well if your not selling for a couple months, i could be quite tempted myself.

im sure 2k will not be enough for a total gt30 installation. Think it might just cover a hybrid if your lucky. Give wellys thread a read, lots of information there (inbetween the chat :p)

Def forget the gt30 then, let us know how you get on, just trying to be helpful mate....

I remember when Bill was doing my Hybrid and he said your nothoping for more then 300 BHP are you and i said no just want to be different how that changes. anyway on your 2k budget i think you would be very stretched to get 350 BHP dont forget WMI aswell i am currently not running but im not to hard on my car as the clutch has started to slip so cant go mental

Ok cheers guys thought would cover it easy with 2k .. Maybe just rods this time and save those pennys :-D

You are not going to do a GT30 build on 2k and struggle with a hybrid for that money too especially if you aren't doing the work yourself...

S3 pistons and crank are already forged and will be fine... rods are around £340 depending on the exchange rate, you will need new bearings at £40 to £80 ish depending if you go OEM or Calico coated....

What turbo to go for will depend on your aims and wallet... both turbo choices will need a FMIC, 3" downpipe, larger injectors and a custom remap... beyond that this is where the differences between the turbo choices starts to impact your wallet...

With a hybrid you can arguably get away with the 312mm brake set up but use decent pads (Ferodo DS2500's) and brake fluid (Motul RBF 660), beyond this power level you would really want to consider 4-pots and 323mm or larger discs as the rate a 350bhp + S3 covers tarmac under acceleration will surprise you....

There is more fabrication work involved in a big turbo (GTXX etc) conversion than there is with a hybrid as you can use off the shelf 'stage 2' upgrades on the hybrid which are bolt on's... GTXX turbo's generally require bespoke parts costing more... engine wise going GTXX would really need the valve gear doing at a cost of around £1000... larger turbo's are laggier but will produce power much higher up the rev range... this requires raising the rev limit else you get a very narrow band of power... raising the rev limit will put extra load on the valve gear and 20v top ends while good are known to drop valves... I have supertech's in mine... large port head would be beneficial on a GT30 too...

Best bet is to read through both mine and Welly's build threads... the hybrid on Wellys car is a very powerful solution on done on a tight budget... my GT30 has not been without its issues and has cost me much more than I originally budgeted for...

Put simply, hybrid is cheaper and simpler and you can do most of the work yourself if you are competant... doing a GT30 or other big turbo requires more effort and more money plus the 'whole' car needs upgrading not just the engine...

<tuffty/>

If I had to spent 2k on a rebuild, I would choose a GT30 any day.

yes but then would you be able to afford the 4K+ that a GT is going to cost all in

Yer only reason I thought I would do it was because was told £1000 without map .. Was told manifold , Downpipe , turbo , injectors and rods but anyways just rods for now :-D

Thats what i mean steve, people go into it blind...nothing worse... halfway through your build run out of cash = no car= divorce....lol

LOL, the hybrids aren't all that much better. Yes they are cheaper to do. But not a huge amount.

Mine has cost me a bomb thus far.

Tell me bout it but you have had it worse. Divorce might be worth it could save some money haha

My Projected budget for a hybrid budget considering I already have b8s with Eibachs and brembos.

Hybrid £700
FMIC £400
DP + sport cat £450
Miltek £450
3" Tip £150
Rods £350 + fitting
Inectors £?
Bills Time £?

tots up to roughly £2500 before labour costs and it could use a high flow exhaust Mani & WMI. So for me, i.e. the not so handy in the engine bay, i dont I think it would be unreasonable to budget around £5500 for a hybrid build from scratch.

Well i have receipts for 6k including my brembos ...still needing injectors and a custom map and MANIFOLD :sly:
Thats why im holding back for the map i want everything done/in place...

Yeah, I can quite see im going to spend more money on the car than it actually cost in the first place, lol. But it can all be built up over time, slowly improving the car until it gets to the point where the turbo, injectors & mapping are all thats left.
