I've heard alot of storys about how bad it can be for the standard shocks when just fitting lowering springs, is this just if you take it like -60mm or will I be ok with a -40mm spring kit? Its non sport suspenson by the way.

They wont last as long compared to normal, perhaps a few years, but dont believe half the people that will tell you they will die in a week.
Do you know what make of springs are on yours because thats the sort of ride height im after, not to low, but a nice noticeable drop.

You'll always get a better quality ride if you change for a matched set of springs and shocks but depending on the condition of your shocks you should be ok with a 40mm drop.

The non-sport dampers are already pretty soft, and i'd expect they'd really struggle to control a lowered car.
The problem isnt about the dampers exploding, its the fact that the dampers are there to control the spring, and as a result need matched to it. If you have a stiff spring, and a soft damper, the damper isnt strong enough to actually damp the spring, so you end up with a bouncy car. Similarly if you fitted some super stiff shocks to your SE spec springs, the shock would start hindering the spring from doing its job.
Given the shocks on the car were weak when new, and are now 10+ years old and have covered thousands of miles, i would probably look at getting a cheap shock and spring kit. You will find some available around the £200 mark.

I've got the audi sports struts (only a year old) and i fitted them with -45R/-55F springs. The car handles very well and is not bouncy at all like some lowered on standard shock cars i've been in! The ride is harsher than it would be (obviously!), but its still fine as my everyday driver. The springs were from a German company called Supersport which is an umbrella company of Spax. There TUV approved too. Cost me £120.

ye, but 1yo sports dampers are going to be doing a much better job of controlling a lowered spring than a 10year old SE spec damper!
And for the cost of new Audi shocks you may as well throw bilsteins or something on there!

I have no idea what springs are on mine to be honest. Ill have a look at the part number next time i get the wheel off. Think theyre Spax.
ive fitted - 40mm fk to mine on rs4 dampers that i got off a mate, but the rs4 had only covered less than 500 miles so almost new. and the car handles fine
if you go down the fk route , then buy direct from them off their website not through another company, you will save alot of money and almost every english suppiler told me 14 -21 days delivery and i got them direct in 4 days
