So R-tech raised my rev limit and...

Obviously not in the habit of redlining second all of the time but I thought some people might find it interesting never the less.

Very....as I continually got fed up of having to get into 3rd gear to achieve this!! Not a problem in the Black car :)

Its a video on my Iphone and I just took a screenshot.

yeah this is about the 5 the time i tryed it the rest go all wobbly at just about this point lol

6.7MPG!!! WOW....

I was in an RS6 once and it was averaging 4.2mpg....but thats pretty cool in an S3 :)

It's not my average thank god I've seen about 5 though iirc

be interesting to see what I can hit when my rev limit gets increased to around 8k ;P

Yes it will! are you altering the gearbox in anyway to support that or will it be ok as stock?

8k holy sh1t! There screaming enough as it is.

What's the new limit Dane? Is standard 7200? I never take above 62 coz that's peak power.
I've had 4.8mpg flooring it. Obv not an average thank god

I think stock was 6800 and they raised it to 7200, i think. It's pretty cool having the extra revs.

Worry about that when it blows up :)

I did look at a TDi box and its ratios though.... the ratios are pretty close but the final drive ratios are different (2 final drives on 6 speeders)

Will revisit it at some point but no drama atm.... could have an 85mph first gear like Bill's race car lol ;P

Fair enough, I like your use of when it blows up, not, IF it blows up haha.

Is that something you requested at R-Tech or is it just the norm with the maps?

nope Nick just asked whether I would like it aswell.

I would be more worried about cogs making pretty patterns on the tarmac from the gearbox IMO...

Na, it'll be OK.

My rev limiter is all the way up at 7900 RPM. I regularly take it to 7500 without (so far) issue.

ARP2000 rod bolts help...

Higher revs = increased engine wear... std 20v valve gear is gonna take a beating, supertech top end is needed for reliability if you are planning on keeping the revs high (as you need to with big turbo's)

8k should be as high as I need although my setup would allow higher but I doubt I will be making much power beyond 8k anyway as I only have a T25/0.64 hotside

Lol...(welly goes to the nearest oak tree and touches it) Well the engine will take it with the mods, but the gearbox is still standard, not sure on the stress tolerance, most of our gearboxes have had the rude wake up from remaps..so this will be another kick up the *** for them....lol

looks like glos is where the fun is, no where about to stretch the S3 short legs.....

You knows it! Unfortunately mine is the slowest at the moment :(

and revs will effect this by how?
g'boxes not an issue... per say... Synchro's on some however... wont like muchos revs

not an issue for me however as I have dog box.

5 spd gearbox seems far more better as you hit 70mph at 6.5k revs, anywhere I can find 1.8T gearbox ratio's from varies engine cods as it would be intresting to compare?

Sorry to piggy back onto this thread but is there a breakdown for speeds at the limit in each gear for a standard S3 anywhere?

My own 1.8T AUM Golf which has 159k on the clock and totally stock runs 8000rpm day in day out since the summer and has been spot on. It pulls 2nd in gear 80mph (5 speed box)

In my stock mapping there is an unused rpm limiter of 10000rpm?? I have been told during development the AUM was held at 10000rpm for many hours?

My stage 1 dyno graph just under 8k.

lol yeah, just reminded me of a mate who got is golf to 400hp and i warned him about the drive shafts.....within 30 mins they had both sheared.....
I will ring you early next week for a 3 inch tip if you have any left...

aye. in stock Dave

I have broken one shaft in my ibiza so far, and a few CV's have expired - but thats during racing.
both sheared at same time must be some kind of record!

there isnt much point taking it so far where there is little power.

I get a quicker 1/4 time when using all the rpm range, it puts me in the peak of the torque band when I shift up a cog. I managed a 13.8s 102mph with 240bhp 260lbft and 8r limiter.

Here's a vid of my s3 0-60
