I am going to swap mine around as the drivers side is faulty so i want to see if the fault moves with the ballast.

Has anyone removed the ballast from their Xenon lights before?

Did you have to disconnect the battery etc? The reason why i am asking is because they have a sticker on them warning about high voltage.

Whats wrong with yours lights? Ive had problems with my passenger side light, found out it was the ignitor which was burnt where in touches the bulb. Have you checked yours?

No need to disco the hart the high voltage warning is for when xenons arc and are on, when off they are harmless you'll need to remove the bumper and the light housings to swap the ballast over

Sounds like a good idea to try swapping over the ignitors first between left and right, to see if the fault moves with them, as you can do that without removing the headlights and bumper, before you go to the hassle of swapping the ballasts if that doesn't help - as the ballasts are fastened to the bottom of the headlights on the 2004 models....

If it is the ignitor (which is the small square black & red box on the back of the bulb), I have a genuine Audii spare unused one from a 2004 Xenon headlight I could let you have cheap. (PM me if its of use...)

The issue i have is that the drivers side flickers when i first put it on and sometimes after flickering a few times it is then ok, other times it flickers and the goes off and a warning comes up on the DIS.

To get it working again after it goes out i have to switch it on and off, sometimes i have to do it a few times.

thanks i'll look at it.

Hi, im having the exact same problem with my xenons, but now the driver side is not coming back on at all, did u try the ignitor was that the problem? i hav tried changing the bulb and the ballast but hasnt made a difference. any know what else could be the problem?

Have you had a look at the ignitor, mine was like this (pic below). I have a new one and tried putting it on today but couldnt do it with the headlight on the car like i did last time, will have another go when i have time.

I am having the same problem by the sounds of it.My drivers side flickers and then goes off so i have to turn it off and back on but it doing it more and more everyday just waiting for a bit of time to look at it!!

Il have a look at the ignitor tomorrow, i think it maybe the wiring probably lost connection or got loose so not enough powers getting to the main beam.
its very annoying tho think will have to take the whole headlight out and see what the problem is.

Mine is the exactly the same. It has got worse and worse like yours.

Ive just put the new ignitor in and turned the lights on and within a minute the bulb blew, heres what the bulb now looks like.

I dont know what to have a look at now, possibly the ballast. Anyone have any for sale and/or part number?

I have just inspected my bulb and its looks ok so i shoved it back in and now it seems to be working ok

Roman do you need a new bulb?

Mine is not the same as the one in the eBay link as mine are bi-xenons.

As you replied i just sent you a pm. What type of bulb do you have D2S 35W?

I dont know if this will help you, but i took my car to a xenon specialist and he said there was no problem with anything all it was, was that for some reason there wasnt any power getting to the lights even thought the ballast was working fine.

There seem'd to be a problem with the power on my drivers side so what he did was used some extra wiring and got the power from the battery to the lights, my lights are now working. If your lights dont work with a new bulb try finding a specialist in ur area itl save u from the hassle of tryin to figure out whats wrong and spending a huge amount tryin to sort it.

Found the issue to be the bulb. Swapped the bulbs and the fault went with the bulb. Changed the bulb and fault has been solved.

This is potentially good news i have been so busy over the xmas period i havnt had chance to look at mine so am determined to look this week so hopefully mine is the same as yours!

Robin i have swapped my bulbs today and found that the fault has gone with the bulb aswell. So a new bulb will be ordered tomorrow!!

where there any signs of damage on your bulb?

Mine was broken on the ceramic bit.

No signs of damage but a pain in the **** doing it on my drive in the cold when it was getting dark.
Where did you get your bulb from?
I have seen some on ebay but am gunna ring TPS in the morning.

Well i rand TPS today and was glad i was sitting down.D1s bulb £129.
So have ordered a pair on ebay for £35.
Obviously not going to be as good quality but there is no way i was paying over £100 for a bulb!!

Jus be wary about the colour of the light output on the eBay bulbs as the genuine ones are very blue compared to others. Let us know how you get on.

Yeh robin there is different types so ive ordered the closest ones to oem.
If they are no good i will sell them back on and then maybe bite the bullet!!

Fitted these tonight and tbh they look very good forgot to get some pics tho but will find someone who has genuine ones in and check the colour difference but in my eyes its very minimal!!

hi
does anyone know if the alternator and ac pump can be effected if aftermarket bulbs and ballasts are fitted on a pre face lift converted to a facelift with led headlights

Hav u used oem ballasts and bulbs? Any noise when u start car like the ac pumps or altenator going?

sorry misread your post go oem though technically all bulbs and ballasts are aftermarket

thing is i have used oem on my conversion with no problems
but my friend has also completed one similar but has opted for aftermarket ballasts and bulbs(h7)
recently his car is taking time to start with some juddering and there is a noise when starting the car in morning
he altenator went and so dod th ereplacement
could this be due to the aftermarket bulbs or ballasts?or the electrition bypassing some thing on ecu?

thanks for any help

can you link or send a photo of what he bought cause a hid kit will screw his car

i will try getting a link...but i checked his bulbs which were h7 and he told me his ballasts are aftermarket
the problems i described above...
can they be related to the use of a aftermarket hid kit?
