A4's in the snow

what? so the car automatically braking spinning wheels on a bend is good in snow or ice?

its printed in almost if not all manufacturer hand books to switch it off in snow/ice. braking on a bend is the last thing you want to do.

try it with esp off, i assure you you'll get on much better

This is about as far as mine went in the snow...but then I cycle to work and wouldn't let the mrs drive it, haha. It did actually move a few times and I was satisfied with it in the snow. It did make me bab my pants last night though, got caught on a little tiny steep road with ice and it was allover the place. Don't think many cars would have handled any better though as it was literally just ice. Seeing all your pics made me wish I had gone out more in it though for a play.

I like how the Audi badge is obviously too manly for the snow, which just cannot settle on it

look at the stats on some winter tyre reviews: just like normal get their best outright accelleration with a fair degree of slip (30%?), the same applies to winter tyres, but the slip levels required to get even moderate acceleration on ice (and still not cause any real damage to tyres or car) is classed as uncontrolled by traction control systems (I think around 50%).

I'll dig 'em out later.

if you are just driving normaly then yes and i do not say to any one that they should have ESP on or off. me i keep it on but then i dont drive like a wally and like to have the back end in line with the front as much as pos more so when kids are in the car. i have seen it in the hand book to turn it off in the snow but like i say till the time the car moves with it on ill leave it on lol and although ESP when on is a good thing if the car starts to slip ie rear right wheel then it will dab the brakes to help you out see videos as to why i think its a good thing but thats just me mate lol

I always understood that the only benefit in turning it off came when the car was virtually 'stuck' on ice/snow and the wheels were just spinning.

actually leave mine on as default, but when I'm trundling v slowly or caning it and want to get sideways :)

technically the best outright accellleration is when the wheels hav elots of slip....

Did you just push the snow out of the way with the car or what ?!

lol thats funny have you must have had fun and the ESP off ;-)

Yeah great fun skidding round the car park at work. :) I then had really bad wheel wobble at about 50 mph on the way home as the rear wheels were packed with snow.. :)

i did see you had a weeeeeeeeeee bit of snow in your wheels lol

Silversurfer, your car is well nice mate. Any pics of it not covered in the fun stuff we all call snow?

I'm guessing a lot of the snows gone now.. but will be back for the weekend I believe. For some this is a sad time. But for us that like the weather it's good. Bring your cameras this time !

I've been having great fun in my quattro in the snow, but I did bend a split rim drifting in to a snow covered curb, my fault though so not too angry

NOT a happy boy this morning to wake up and find this

Only 2wd but 8 inches of fresh powder wasn't stopping it. Two days later and I still have the 'snow spoiler' on the front.

And this little fella stayed tucked up in his snow blanket.

Bit late on parade I know but I was away for the last snow fall...

was only taken on my phone and sorry about the mess on the bonnet I was parked under a tree that night :motz:

had been doing some drifting round the car park which was awesome :s4addict:
but it was pretty solid chunks of ice sticking up and I didn't want to tear my tyres up.

I was very impressed with the good year f1 asyms on the snow and ice tho, no spinning or sliding as long as I didn't plant the right foot

Car is looking good as always Sam. Hope it's all going well for you after the ropey start to ownership.

Here's a little one of mine from this morning, complete with octopus icicles on the front. Last time it snowed I was a wimp and never dared to drive it, so this time i've been out for some car park fun at the local church, was great fun. Just wish it was a Quattro so that i'm impervious to snow.
