Good "conversion" I spose but personally I'm just left wondering why. Never seen the point in making a car appear to be something it's not.

For me I'm thinking of doing the same, because its not the performance I'm after its the looks, but I wouldn't advertise as an S3, I'll just change the badges!

debadged i wouldn't mind so much, but with the badges you're making your car out to be something it's not and i think that's kinda sad personally.

Ah, if you're going to remove the badges then that makes more sense. Don't have any problem with that as you obviously just like the bodywork of the S3. It's when the owner is deliberately trying to pass their car off as a better model, as the person you bought it from obviously was, that I start taking "issue" with it, but that's just me

It's a bit like removing the engine size/type badges from the back - I don't have a problem with those who do purely for looks, but when people are obviously doing it to disguise the fact that they have a base model, it gets a bit pathetic - the few of us who actually care can usually tell anyway and everyone else doesn't give a toss

e.g. i drive an 8P2 and i'd never put an S3 kit on it of any description, or S3 badges either. but i'd have no problems putting an 8P3 S-Line front end on it. it's still an S-Line, i'm just improving the front end with that of a newer version of the same derivative.

Just tell me what the dif is between having a std A3 with a S3 bodywork from a pre-facelift S3 to a facelift S3?
None as far as i'm concerned... I think it all comes out wether you like it or not...
Yes i have an A3 with a S3 bodywork, but not because i would like to have a S3 but simply because i love the looks of a S3. An btw the only thing i would really want on my 2.0 tdi would be the quattro system...
Now please just take out those badges...

I bought the car like this, i did not go and and source s3 badge and put them on the car to make it look like a s3!!!

If you want my honest opinion i dont like the s3 badges so they will be coming off and i will not replace them with any other badges, although i was thinking about putting a ''S'' badge on the boot but i am thinking against that now.

I dont mean to come across agressive but if some of you would of noticed in the welcome section i only joined the site afew weeks ago, and i have only got the car when i joined this site.

All your comments are welcome but if you would please take the time to see when i joined, and take into consideration when i got the car and the weather, you will see that the badges will come off in time.

Noticed that it has the rear diffuser fro the facelift... Didn't know it fits the pre-facelift cars... Hummmm... I want one.

Personally mate the value of replica cars are way higher than that of standard ones I have to do this sort of work for people all the time and am currently doing it myself. End of the day s3 kit looks better it's oem. So what caus it has a different engine s3 is the bodykit and extras not the engine. Look at most other cars. Irmscher kitted vauxhalls etc. It's just a bodykit tuning range which is now overrun by vxr models

Personally the Audi badges look ***** apart from the rings

i think that most of the comments were aimed at the person you bought the car off - i have no problem with people badging up a car to look like a higher spec than it is - as someone commented earlier, those who car will know and those who don't will probably be impressed because i don't think anyone could deny that it looks better now than when it originally came out of the factory.

His ain't an S3, your's ain't an 8P3. So you are both "faking it" with a car that isn't what it says on the tin.
I see no difference putting an S3 bumper on a car that has an S3 badge still on it... compared to putting an 8P3 front on an 8P2.
In fact, if anything, the 8P2 to 8P3 is more extreme and "faking it" much more.
His car has badges that make it appear faster etc than it is... and a facelift conversion makes the car look newer than it is.

I have no problem with either. It's your car, do as you please. And i'm certainly not going to think it's "sad" or take "issue" with what you do it.
All this "you shouldn't have this badge on your car if it ain't one" is all very played out.
It's a frickin' badge!!

i love the look of the s3 esp in black or white but i would get rid of the badge on the boot leave it without a badge on it looks so much cleaner and easyer to polish too lol nice car tho oh and welcome to the site mate

you could apply that logic to any mod. "your car didn't come with nav, so why are you putting nav in it?"

ppl just draw the line at different places. i'd say that mine would be an S-Line with an 8P2 front, and it'd still be an S-Line (and badged as such) with an 8P3 front. an A3 S-Line is an A3 S-Line. an A3 isn't an S3.

i don't have an "issue" as such with anyone's mods. what they do to their car is their business, but i don't feel it's fair on S3 owners if made my car look like one of theirs. that's my personal preference, which anyone is allowed to agree or disagree with.

i can't speak for everyone but i'm certainly not having a go at you. how you mod your car is up to you. my opinions are voiced as a generalisation rather than specifically referring to you or your car. i was just generally voicing that i don't feel look-a-likes are in the best spirit of modifying cars, but i'm not God and i'm not in charge.

as long as you're happy with your car that's what most members would want i imagine. i certainly would, whether or not the mods were to my taste.

i am glad to hear you're debadging it tho, and as someone said as far as replicas go it's a pretty good one. you have a nice car there, it's just not what i'd want from an A3. that's part of the fun of the modding game. everyone has different tastes.

considering the cars would have cost just about the same brand new, i don't think there's such an issue there. and besides, any difference there MIGHT be between the current price of two equally specc'ed cars of different ages is made up by the conversion because it costs so much. that's where i make the distinction.

making a diesel or a non quattro (or even a 2.0T quattro or 3.2) look like an S3 is a slightly different thing i feel. you haven't paid for an S3, so you shouldn't try and make your car look like one. you obviously disagree, which is fine. i just wouldn't do it to my car is all.

all of the above is referring specifically to look-a-likes. cars with bodykits AND badges. i still wouldn't put an S3 bodykit on an A3 (debadged or otherwise), but others would and that's their choice to make. it's not that their cars don't look nice it's just something i wouldn't do myself.

put it this way - the OP has called his car an "S3 replica". would you call Phil's car an 8P3 "replica"? i don't think many ppl would.

Suprised at you Sub tbh, as you know ive done the S3 conversion and mines only a lowly S Line but it still retains all S Line badges only because I wasnt trying to make it an S3, I went for the S3 because 1. It had the washer jet holes and 2. I loved the S3 look. I think mines powerful enough to carry it off oh and its lucky to have Quattro too.

I agree with Aythreee on this, making the conversion from S Lines to S3s or 8P2 to 8P3 there is no difference. Both are no longer what they were from factory. Ok, S3 owners may not like all these 'fakes' driving around but they dont take anything away from 'proper' S3s. We are all enthusiasts and as such want to put our own twist and touches to our cars.

To the op on this thread, I like your car, needs a good clean lol but guess we can forgive you with the snow lol Seriously, good on you, take the badges off or not, its your car matey, just enjoy it and sure you will do a few touches to it anyway. :thumbsup:

What about me? Mine's a Sport. I already have s-line alloys on it... Can I stick s-line bumpers on it and a grille that has 's-line' on it too without being classed as "sad" or "unfair" to s-line owners?? (still trying to get my head around your "unfair" comment and how that works).

Anyway, its all a bit scientific and political for a badge, I think.

Sarah, thanks for your comments, i was only looking at your progress thread yesterday and i like all the work you have done. Maybe my car is like marmite, i like it but others dont!

I just hope that me starting this thread does not cause a rift within the members, as some clearly have different beliefs in what people should and should not do with a car they have paid for, therefore are allowed to do what they like to it.

I think the comment about its ok to change the look of your car if you have paid around the same amount as the car you going to ''copy'' is total crap. I think you should have a serious word with yourself and think about what you have written, it doesnt make any sense at all.

(also - as much as i don't want to admit this - you could probably take on an S3 at the lights and i probably couldn't lol so it's slightly more justified!)

I love the way people add mods to their cars. Adding Sat Nat, parking sensors etc just improves an already good car so a win in my mind. You are right Sub, we all have different opinions and thats a good thing, just sometimes some people dont always say their comments in a diplomatic way (not meaning anyone in this or recent threads before anyone bites) but we have all asked for comments lol but deep down we all hope they are good ones, we are all human after all.

Its good cars are different, life would be soooooo boring if they were all exactly the same in every way. Just like people eh!

You are right though, we have these discussions often on here but we are all friends really, non of it is meant personnally.
