Hi All,

How complicated is CV boot replacement on an S3? Will changing one at the front affect the geometry?

Cheers,
Dave.

yeh tuffty did a guide, its also in his build thread. im attempting it this weekend so il report back on here. i've got outer cv boot and inner driveshaft boot to do, both on different sides whihc is a pain in the ***

Right where's Tufty when you need him?

Superkarl - Are you having it geo'd after the changes? Any info from your experience with this would be mucho appreciated :)

I changed one earlier this year, was a tw*t of a job, but i did it with no guide and without the little spreader tool thingy. Next time i try one it will be with a stretchy boot and lots of lube lol.

i will be gettin the geometry done yes, but not straight away, my car is off the road over these winter months, the boots are one job of many, but i will make a start this weekend. with tufftys guide should be ok to do, if a little messy. chears tufty your a star.

need to change my nearside too, cv price, how many hours labour?

funky, suspension + this too ? lol

i did mine a while back before I saw tufftyblokes guide... Quite a satisfying job when you see a brand new boot on there. Not very hard either...

sporttrattor, tell us more?

where you bought from, price etc please

btw, can the cv joint affect the steering/alignment

Alignment will be fine as long as you don't undo the lower ball joint (S3's) via the 3 bolts and just remove the ball joint itself from the hub carrier

Well I'm mildly annoyed to be honest. The car went in to awesome last Thursday for new springs, top mounts, alignment, strut bearings haldex fluid change and brake fluid change. As that took all day it was booked in again for today for the insepction service. Only at the inspection service today was there any mention of a split CV boot, it was never 'noticed' last thursday....I immediately asked if it would need geo'ing again after a CV booot change and I was told yes, so I asked why it wasn't noticed last thursday, the response then changed to 'no it won't need geo'ing again..? When I asked about pricing for a CV boot the quote was an hour and a half labour and circa £20 for parts, so all in about £100 - great after I've just spent the best part of £900....

Bough the kit from Audi, about £12 if I remember right. Or maybe £18

Its simples. Undo hub nut ( get a replacement). Pop lower ball joint. Possibly disconnect arb. Undo driveshaft flange bolts then remove the drive shaft. Then it's just a case of forcing the joint over the spring clip with several carefully placed hits with a mallet. Rest is fairly obvious.
