Did anyone notice the roof spoiler adjustment in the rev counter?
We had seen spy photos of the test car at the ring with raised spoiler in the past.

Also, from the press release there is a turbo boost indicator in DIS

NHN,
another mod for you:)

Are you sure it's not power tailgate warning light which is used on other models such as A6 and Q7?? Surely the dials for each model are pretty much generic for the warning lights....

The picture I saw of the "active spoiler" on the RS3 was nothing more than failed sticky tape that was holding it on causing the thing to flip up like a spoiler on a 747 on landing!!! Surely not the best for handling or downforce...

That looks like a TT spoiler light for their raisable spoilers?

i dunno it looks completely useless to me. i'm not an engineer but surely that spoiler would only succeed is pushing the back end down, and in a predominantly FWD car that seems totally counter productive. (let's make the front end light so it can't brake, steer or put its power down :eyebrows:.)

maybe it's an airbrake, but why on earth would a hatchback with 330-odd-bhp need an airbrake? the next car up i can think of that has one is the £330k 626bhp McLaren Mercedes SLR

Same reason the TT has a spoiler..... so the **** end of the car doesn't become the front at speed.

but the TT is a completely different shape to the A3. i don't think hatchbacks generally have the same problem

Interesting

From the looks of this pic the spoiler could tilt up from the front - hence the unusual shape.

Note what look like rubber bits at each end.

And a cutout or see through bit for the brakelight possibly?

Maybe you can incorporate it with the roof rack and it tilts to help you load you bike or whatever....

I cant see it being an air brake and why would it need to be adjustable anyway? the lancer HF turbo had an adjustable roof spoiler and that was only to increase drag and that not what you'd want really on the RS3 it would make more sense for it to self raise at over 90 mph like others wouldn't it?

I suppose that you may over ride the self raise to look cool and that maybe why there is a warning light.. would look cool though either way.

spoilers on hatchbacks = not cool

I go with that...looks like its falling off to me. I cant see a spoiler tipping to reveal unfinished body work like that...

Dear god... Are we really having this conversation ?!?

The rev counter is shared with the TT (let's face it VAG are the masters of part sharing!)
The Pre prod car simply had a spoiler that came un stuck.

What is Joe public REALLY going to do with an adjustable spoiler???

End up with an under table 'semi' at the pub whilst telling their mates they can go to defcon 2 at 'x' mph!!

At least with the TT the spoiler was added for good reason. Just wrong on a hatchback as it will look like it's 'brok'!

Good review and pictures of the RS3 in this months TopGear mag. spoiler is like the devil one from the prototype.

I just noticed the RS3 appeared in ETKA, rear spoiler part number is: 8P4 827 933 B GRU, local dealership can't get me a price for it yet. I want it!

Lol, you're not alone, tried to price quite a few bodywork items for curiosity myself but no prices available as yet..

Its a great shame they could not get the shape of the car right in the first place because then it wouldn't need a spoiler. :)

Yeap noticed friday etka shows RS3 now.

the op mentioned a turbo boost i woulde love to know if this could be retro fitted to my s3.

that spoiler is growin on me!! need to see a Phantom black one!! :readit:

if its by function that its popped up like that, maybe an air brake?!

After looking on ETKA, it's not an adjustable spoiler, it's not an air brake. It's just a spoiler.
