Has anyone got or seen a vinyl roof wrap. Also whats everyones opinions on both look and durability???

A mates looking a getting his done which made me think i haven't actually seen any and wondered what it would look like.

Thanks

Slade I got my roof and spoiler wrapped gloss black mate. Looks wise it looks great as if it's painted and I've had mine on since september and not had a problem. When cleaning it just like paint just make sure there no grit or it will scratch. Use some water to losen any dirt and let it roll over. You got to be careful what cleaning products you use on it. Don't have any photos but will check for you

i had my last car wrapped and it was good. there are different quality in vinyl too so look into that. i was going to have mine done in gloss black as mines silver too but am unsure still on weather to do it, its only about £100 but i think on mine as its not a proper open sky it could look abit cheap and chavy

Cheers mate if youve got some photos that will be good. As long as its not too much effort to look after im definitely considering an early xmas pressy for myself!!!

The open sky is that the panoramic roof??? My old mans sprint blue has a panoramic roof looks really nice with the black roof and spoiler. I think the silver / black contrast would look good as well.

Also when im bored / ready to sell the car is it easy to remove the wrap? how do they stick it on any glue residue??

Cheers again guys!!!

yeah open sky is the panoramic roof. from past experience i have removed a vinyl roof and it wasn't too bad, sore fingers after but still do able. there can be a slight residue left but does come off with panel wipe. like i said though some vinyls themselves are different ive heard of some pulling clearcoat off

ive removed vinyl off roof's in work a little tip for when you come to remove it ie to sell your car is to use a heatgun (like you would use for stripping paint off walls) and heat the vinyl up it comes off easy enough then jsut be carefull not to burn your paint in the process lol ive done it before

I'm a big fan of Vinyl wraps, whether its just the roof or whole car. I say go for it and get the spoiler and mirrors done too!

Yeh I'd def get the spoiler done and maybe mirrors after but mainly want roof
And spoiler

i saw a silver a3 done before looked outstanding mate get it done then post some pics up but as said get them mirrors done to balance it out a bit

Yeh think will!!! just need to find somewhere local thats decent now. I say local willing to travel to london or birmingham so if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to let me know!

My S3 had the roof carbon wrapped when i bought it. I had it taken off for two reasons - one being it had some scuff marks on it where someone had tried to clean somthing off it (bird sh1t maybe) which werent screaming out at you from a few feet away but on closer inspection they were noticeable and it bugged me, and the second reason being I wanted to know what was under the wrap - ie was it covering somthing up (appreciate for a wrap to work the paint suface has to be smooth etc but I still wanted to be sure....someone could have drawn a massive bell end on it in black paint for all I knew  )

AFAIK the wrap came off easily and certainly didnt damage the paint or clear coat in this case but I wouldnt be sure that would apply in every case....every car is different as are lots of paint types....plus I aint a paint expert.

A mate of mine has had his 996 GT3 replica wrapped - it was lapis blue and its now white. I believe it was done by Carbon Skin Vehicle Wrapping | Car Wraps | Vehicle Wraps | Vinyl Graphics | Car Wraps | Car Wrapping | Vehicle Wrapping| Vinyl Vehicle Wraps | Vehicle Wraps London

I've seen it in the flesh and it does look good at first glance - the panel work is excellent - where it falls down a bit IMHO is the more complex work, for example, the GT3 wing is an odd shaped thing, the wing mirrors, the door handles that kind of thing. Its not a guff job or anything like that, but there has to be compromises. I think were it me having the whole car done I would have the smaller intricate bits painted and then wrap the rest - best of both worlds then.

I think roof wraps work really well - they are mostly a fairly easy job to do and can transform the look of a car for a couple of hundred quid which can easily be removed at a later stage when you get bored with it or want to return the car to standard. I think when my mate had his done he was offered two types of wrap, a standard and a wrap with an extra laminate coating on it (which he went for). He's really pleased with the job the guys did for him and I think there is sommat like a 3 year warranty on the work too.

Hope that helps.

Cheers Fran:happy: A think a black roof on your car would finish it off nicely with the whole red and black theme

No problem...Yeah i've got some on my camera i'll get them tonight for you. Na i wouldnt say it was effort to look after lol. But i think a black roof an spoiler on your car would look awesome. Get a photo of your car up and let some one photoshop it:thumbsup:

It might look even better with a back spoiler too.
On my 2005 3dr i have the roof and spoiler painted black, and a black vinyl bonnet (previous owners) and i think it looks quite good.

Get some photos up mate of yours :) And reckon you could do it with the spoiler aswell so Slade can see.
I personally think if you do the roof got to do the spoiler aswell looks so much better.
I reckon it looks good i'd love the new front end on my A3

I think without the spoiler it would look quite weird.

Looks good, any photos from the front on an above angle lol? Like the MY11 lights may buy some this month. Not a fan of the A8 wheels though, thought about changing them?
Agree if with you it does look quite weird if the spoiler not done as if its just not meant to be lol

This is how the car looked like when i first got it, i HAD to change the wheels because they were too wide and were destroying the arches. I agree with you about the A8 wheels and will change to some BBS rims, but im working my way inside out on the car, interior is done so next is remap & clutch then wheels and brakes.

I do love the MY11 lights, would recommend them, they're a great upgrade.
Oh and these are the only decent photos have :ermm:

Yeah I say go for it seen as it suits your car so well, spoiler and mirrors too! :icon_thumright:

Came across this guy on twitter, Yiannimize World He's quoted £1,300 to wrap a whole A3 in matte black.

thats expensive i know a company that can do them for around 850/900

Cheers for doing that for me mate. Definately going to do it as well as the spoiler. Really like the look and fact can take it off when I like. Anyone have any suggestions of any good wrappers near London or Birmingham??

Done a quick photo shop of it for you mate, added a touch of Lamin-X too, just to give you an idea.

Anyone wants a photo shop doing, give me a shout.

looks good - i am having my MY11 ibiswhite a3 sb wrapped in a couple of weeks. A friend of mine does it for a living, so the plan is:

- roof from frontwindow to backwindow.
- chrome frame in the singleframe grill
- middle front spoiler so it looks a little like s-line
- maybe also foglight housings.

going for matte black vinyl.
