RS3 Discussion Thread

The pics are disappointing to say the least, i could of handled a 5 door if pushed but not the transmission. So it looks like either tuning my S3 up or buying something more intresting for 40k ie porsche 911, aston martin V8 vantage etc. Regula tuning have it right on a 3door and looks better than the audi attempt

Thats why you got an estate, baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I like seats & the knee bars but I feel it should have got its own wheels, not ones available on an A3.

"s" button? Is that like on knight Rider where fins come out of the car?

But sportback & DSG only?

The proof will be in the road test, I hope it does well. It also should guarantee an RS3 on the newer platform too.

£40k - I'd rather get a 2nd hand B7 RS4.

Oh completely forgot - I am!

Looks awful. Like a snow plough for the front bumper. And you can get those wheels or very similar on the A3 Black Edition?! Not that impressed by the styling. An S3 looks nicer.

No manual option is poor. I'd want a manual gearbox in a car like that.

Hmm not a fan of the rear doesnt look anything special considering its an "RS" same for the alloys.
Not really a fan of them on an S3 let alone an RS3.

a fast 5 door hatch? why not get a V10 RS6 or V8 RS6 for 40k or less

Dont think any one considering this car would consider an C5 RS6 as they probably want some thing a little newer.
And i dont think there any C6 RS6 for under £40k lol

I am amazed that the buckets are an extra! But those standard seats aren't the same as the sports seats are they?

I notice Audi can't decide whether it takes 4.6 or 4.7 seconds to reach 62

Looks quite nice. Interested in the quattro system. Audi site suggests it can shift to 100% front or rear, which sounds interesting; but I wonder how actively it'll do this, I'm worried it'll just be an ever-so-slightly respun part-timer haldex style affair. The other letdown of course is the gearbox situation. I know a lot of you ladies (oh, and for the sake of balance, gents :p) like your s-tronic/dsg type shenanigans, and that's fair enough; but the option of doing most of the driving is always nice (and if you hadn't guessed, my preferred).

****** it id rather buy a year old rs6 for similar money and miles better performance

You can still drive and choose your gears using an S-tronic as I do all the time. You just don't have to keep pushing a clutch pedal to do it. Then if you do hit a traffic jam you can move into D and let the car look after itself until the traffic clears. Much better the disengaging and then engaging the clutch every few seconds. To me the best of both worlds.

The new RS3 is probably only being done to keep some interest in the existing A3 range until the new one arrives in less than 12 months.

Or possibly seeing if there is a good market for such a car to see if it's worth doing one for the new A3 and if so, sooner rather than later.

There is no new A3 in 2011 that is guaranteed.

It looks sh*te! Jesus, Audi's are getting duller by the minute! For that price and lack of spec i definatley have no interest what so ever. Keep saving for the RS4 then me thinks!!

Front tyres are 235 wide, back ones 225, looks like they couldn't get over the rubbing of a sportback.....or maybe another mistake in the spec....

, Must admit is an odd one that, I would prefer the other way around, but that said, maybe although quotes more 50-50% it will still put more down on the front, so they thought have a bigger tyre on front maybe

Even the pricing is not to bad, considering it has rear parking, DSG, satnav, (though sad they fitting the existing, and not a HD version. BT, AMI, all options I would add, and we always compare car OTR price to S3 3 door, the s£ 5 door is more money as well.
But I am not happy about some other things, really thought they would have change the ignition to the same as new A4's, and even the handbrake though I know that is not as easy.
So for me if I do go ahead, it will be 45k with the added seats and hopefully the damping package.

Agree the pricing is likely to be pretty good. Was at dealer Saturday who confirmed no new A3 in 2011. Unlikely to appear in the UK until Spring 2012 and then limited. Hence we are going ahead with a BE Quattro order in MArch.

Regarding Satnav Current A/S3 RNS DVD system is very user friendly and OK. As for A4 (well actually A5 started it!) unless you have Advanced key it is a pain in the ar5e. Advance Key is great but the slot on left is counter intuitive. Best go as all 8P A3's are I reckon... BUT Give me Advanced Key and it's a different opinion. I love it and now need it for my front door as it's such a chore having to find the key!!! + Don't start on the handbrake. Electronic handbrake on its own is a pain... with hill hold superb!! IMHO

+ Who says there is no 'f' in og lights!!!:sadlike::sadlike: (Sorry Dad Joke)

Yes I caught that on the audi site too, wonder if the controller can be added to existing S3/A3 to give it more rear power, interesting indeed, but site contradicts itself iirc, it says perm 4 wheel drive then split, make up there mind sooner or later.

Although in the right colour I think it would look awesome, but lets be honest, bit ****** late in the game, with 8P on its last legs, why didnt they bring this about on a new chassis, how annoying, for the price I'd get an S3 SB & tune it for little dough, that'll do for missus, me & issy for now, dont want the new nipper like Roger Moore in moonraker spinning round.

Does the facelift grill fit the old shape? i do fancy the grill.....clearly can't fit the whole bumper without spending silly money

And on the bright side for all of us who clearly think this is an overpricved half hearted effort, think of the now OEM upgrades available-

Springs
Brakes
Bodykits
-Rear Spolier- not sure on that one...
-Diffuser

May be not to actual purchase but as the main German Motor Show is only held every two years and there is one in Frankfurt in mid-September 2011, I would mine betting Audi will have the new A3 on show. If not it will probably be in Geneva in March 2012.

As I shall be in Germany in September 2011, if there is a possibility of the new A3 at Frankfurt I shall make a point of going along to have a look.

Quite amusing how much doubt there was by a select few when i started the thread....

The new Haldex which shifts 100% power to the rear diff is already being used in the Golf R

disappointingly no quad or twin exhausts, no keyless ignition.

no front fogs? nice to see LED rear brake lights...

nice to see standard 19 inch wheels.

glad it finally happened.

Never been mad about the SB but some how it seems to work in RS guise.

Have not driven a DSG but tried a paddle shift EVO X SST a few weeks back and reckon I could live without a clutch pedal.
Ideal for my evening bumper to bumper rush hour ****** drive home.

Not having 45K sitting about is an issue......

Well im throughly disspointed sportback and DSG only they need to get there act together and realease a 6 speed manual hatch still 40k is a joke if thats the price i couldn't see it.

Edit : am i the only one who hates DSG ? its a good idea for people who like autos but dont force it on people.

I love DSG!

As for the 40k? Well the Golf R is 37k specced so expect the RS3 to be 45k with the options like Nav/Buckets

I bit harsh perhaps, but made me chuckle...clearly knocked up by somebody who probably CAN'T afford it.
