Sadly had to get shot of my R8 V10 recently due to economic circumstances. Gave it a good send off tho' with a trip round the Alps and the Nurburgring as well.

To assuage the lust and fill a rather big hole, I picked up a 55 plate S4 B7 which I am extremely happy with. It is a sumptious V8, which is more than willing to go the extra mile like a rocket, revs extremely well and is heading towards R8 V8 speeds. I've put the non-res Milltek on it, which improves the driver feel no end.

Question is, I have yet to track it, (I missed my annual visit to Castle Combe being in between cars), and am wanting to improve the handling, although this is pretty good as well. Aside from RS4 ARB's, is there anything else I should go for?? KW suspension set-up?? I'd appreciate any advice. Cheers.

well first of all sad to hear about having to get rid of the R8 i bet that was some fun with the noise alone. atleast you can say its not too much of a downgrade to a B7 S4 mate, im sure someone with the relevant knowledge will be on soon with the advice. but coilovers should do nicely and some Powerflex Bushes or some sort with the ARB's and then your set

R8 to S4 B7, tbh mate you'd have been better in a 3.0 tdi, I had an S4 & imho it was pants on power with a map aswell & the engine was sound so I put it down to the weight as it was king heavy for sure.

I had a 3.0tdi in our A6 Quattro, and it was certainly as quick as a 911 from 30-70mph in a straight line and had an enormous amount of grunt. But it too was front heavy, a lot more than the S4, and had the obvious limitations of diesel power - turbo lag, lack of revs. I've come back to petrol after years of turbo diesels, and am thoroughly enjoying the linear thrust of a normally aspirated V8. And previously a V10. Its fantastic. The Audi V8 is pure class, quicker than a 3.0tdi and the S4 handles so much better without an oily lump in the front. A few tweaks to the engine and the handling and I will be back on the track!

First of all welcome to the forum. Congratz on the new car. And sorry to hear about the R8! Must of been fun though. I think a few of the guys on here have RS4 Arbs and KW set up. But im sure they will be along soon to confirm and advise whats best set up to go for. Good luck and enjoy yhe new car

EDIT: Forgot to ask photos of the R8 & S4 please

There's a tiny photo of the car in my avatar from the Sustenpass out of Lucerne but here's one from home and the Ring:

those exhausts aint standard are they? Nice motors mate! Any vids of the r8 in action? ;)

The colour is Dolphin Grey, which surprised me when I saw it - I usually take my Audis black. I really like it, its quite a sharp/smart colour. Not a good piccie of the car, I'll get more soon.

I put the non-resonated Millteks on it, and it gives the car a wonderful growl. Even with them its still quite insulated in the drivers seat, but all it takes is the pedal down on a narrow street with tall houses. Wow! Parking up at a friend's house yesterday, they said it had more of a Maserati growl to it - and that's no bad thing.

I have no vids of the R8, tho' there was one of the car knocking about from Audi Drivers Castle Combe 2008 - that was my V8 which I traded in for the V10 last year. Long story, but you can read about it on the R8talk forum. My sign in there is MikeB. My wife still doesn't know that I swapped the cars!

The R8 looks lovely and the S4. Good luck for when the wife finds out you swapped cars :) lol

Welcome, nice selection of cars. Agree the Dolphin grey is a great colour. Not a bad downgrade, hey?! Enjoy. Oh, and rear ARB and coilovers. PSS9's are good by all accounts.

Bit of a step down aint it?

That R8 is quite simply stunning!

How are you finding the S4 mate?

Guess it came down to budget. Maybe 10k cheaper for the S4...

Bang on with the cost thing. £15k for a car like the S4 with 50k miles on it. Price per performance stat would be good to work out. The engine feels as if its just run in and loosening up nicely. I miss the R8 like Mr Bobbitt misses his tackle but it will come round again I'm sure.

Lol no worries mate, i would personally love an S4 but simply cant afford to run that thirsty V8, especially with the cost of fuel and insurance right now!

I use it sparingly, much like the R8, at weekends and if I need a buzz during the week. We have an lpg'd Range Rover V8 which does us normally on the economy front. The S4 imho is an unmisseable cracker. I've driven the RS6 V10 TT before and that is absolutely astonishing, and have been undertaken by one on the Silverstone circuit whilst in the R8, but I am really looking forward to seeing how the S4 handles itself around the track. I think it will be a lot of fun, more so than the RS, maybe not wildly quick but fun.

I don't suppose you fancy selling the standard exhaust system do you?

Right. I'll ask my local garage where it is. Not on the ball there when it got changed.
