Facelift S3 front Retrofit

"You'll need leveling sensors on all four axles to start with + wiring, (You don't have to but to be legal it is a requirement in addition to headlight washers)"

what will happen if dont do this??

Xenons fitted from factory come with auto leveling. AL controls what angle (up or down) the lights project at.

Say you are going up a hill, AL will lower the beams to avoid blinding on-coming vehicles and vise versa.

I know of a case whereby someone was in an accident and had xenons without AL and it was the other persons fault but the guy said he was blinded by the lights and the innocent guy was held liable for the accident which was frankly ridiculous.

Xenons fitted from factory also have to have washers to by law. I have heard in Europe all the above has to be strictly adhered to.

what will happen if dont do this??

Hard acceleration (and/or rear seat passengers) is enough to lift the headlight beams from their normal position. You may blind other drivers with your extremely bright and potentially badly aligned lights. I'll let you draw your own conclusions on what may happen.

i think the question should have been cant i use the same one???
whats the current sitution with insurance relating to puting new model parts on the car

the answer is no you cant use it, and the answer to the insurance question is also no

to answer an older question on price, i've been quoted just under £4k to do this conversion. for this i'll get:

S-Line front end
Washers
Auto levelling
LED Xenons
Wing mirrors
Bumper, grille, bonnet
reworked front wings
rewiring the indicators in the wings into MY10 wing mirrors
welding up the hole
all fittings and fixtures to make it all work
all wiring
all paint work and labour

i thought that was fairly reasonable for all new parts and a resprayer who's demonstrated his skill on pregnantNproud's motor. i just don't think it's really worth it unless, like Phil, i was planning on running the car into the ground. i'm gonna get rid in a year or two so i don't think it's the wisest idea although i'm really REALLY tempted by the prospect

personally i wouldnt go down that route get the new wings and get brackets made up to fit them to your inner wings

ahh i thought you meant for getting the panels replaced on insurance, youll need to claim them as a mod mate you will be charged extra for it too

sub39h "welding up the hole"

have they said they can use the old wings

speculation. i'd be willing to give it a try with the current wings. if it doesn't fit it'll be obvious early on, and if i'd gone that far stretching to new wings wouldn't be a massive issue

i've not physically gone out and measured but they look exactly the same size and shape to me. if i take the plunge i'll make sure i know for sure anyways.

i just think that it'd be less effort modding the existing wings to fit than having to weld new mounting points on as Phil has done - but if i were an outsider reading this i'd be more inclined to believe Phil over me because Phil's done it and i'm still in the planning stages.

You need new wings. I thought I could use the old ones but you can't as LED lights are different. It would take a lot of work to try and adapt the old wings than to fit the new ones. And when you do a facelift it is an expensive business and I'd think you'd want to do it right first time round.

you dont have to reweld captive nuts if you didnt want a bracket to bolt across your 2 existing redundant mounting holes could be made, just i didnt like the idea of it

are headlight washer legal requirement too? if so why? i asked the guy who i normally get mot done from.he said he has done cars with xenon factiry fitted and no headlight washers. or are they for the leds??? i put a cambus hid kit on my 56 plate k1 leon, will i need a al for that too??

theyre not a requirement yet (watch this space), the autolevelling is and hids should never be allowed in anything period.

so u can get away without al as many people get aftermarket xenon/hid kit without it?

Headlight washers are not a legal requirement in England at the moment but in Europe I've heard they are with factory fitted xenons. In fact, if you notice, all factory fitted xenons cars (from a certain year) all have headlight washers in Europe and GB. It's only a matter of time before we have to comply too me thinks...

As for why, probably something to do with the precise nature of projection of light being disturbed by dirt etc on the headlight but that's just my guess..

You can get away with fitting xenons without AL but for reasons given before, it's at your own risk (and your duty of care for others)

it does concern me but i was thinking all these cars with aftermarket hid and xenon bulbs some even with over 55w are sold but dont cause problems in relation to not having al installed. headligh washers if cars have already been released without washers i cant see them having to change but i agree from now on new cars may all have them on

You're mistaking projectors for xenons, you're a bellend if you fit hids you're risking the safety of other road users, I will not help someone who intends on skimping on others safety.

a guy is selling a al for a black edition 08- will this fit a 54plate?

I asked if i could use the same one thinking my halogen had al.av bought it now so please let me know if a al will fit from a 58 to 54, ive got the module, sensors just need the wiring now

We said if you've the auto levelling system from any a3 with xenons it will work

so i just need the wires for the al. i think i have everthing now...heres what ive got so far bonnet, sline badge wings, bumper, crash bar, side mirrors, door modules, roof rails...can the 3dr s3 preface lift rear whole bumper or lower valance fit a 5dr so if the whole bumper dont fit will the s3 3 door rear valance fot a 5 fr s line rear bumper

3 door and 5 door parts dont mix, niether will they fit the opposite. itt looks like youve the headlight washsers as well theyre mouted in the brackets underneath the lights

yea i have, i had taken closer pictures but could not be bothered last nite to post em. i think i have everything now for the front end. wished atleast the 3dr diffuser may fit.but guess i will need a s line pre face lift bumper with black edition or s3 valance. even better if i can get hold of a facelift bumper with parking sensors if nebody selling and exhaust, rear led headlights, spoiler.

can i order the wires seperate from al from dealer?

phil is your car ready? it looks amazing....I have chrome side mirrors on my k1 leon and had decided to go for a different look on the a3 with black side mirror but after seeing yours it is growing on me, can change my mind later as i got them from dealers. again looks amazing phil love to see back end

back end isnt done yet mate, ran outta cash got plans for something completely different there anyway so its gonna cost a fair bit job for the summer i think. I rebuilt the front end again yesterday as i fitted brand new adaptive headlights need to code the modules and its mine so i should be driving it outta the workshop tonight if alls well, cant wait :) trying to get together a mini meet in the comming weeks with some nicer cameras so that the photos are a bit better than my photography

Have you got a private plate for it??and i thought you added some sun effect to the picture...looks awesome neway tho..bet ur happy with the results???how is the alignment the panels?

Yeah private plate is transferred already, fairly chuffed like will be happy once ive got it all coded, panel alignement is perfect as the modifications to the inner wings was done on a jig, combinded by the adjustment provided everything is perfect

haha true subby, on the downside im still struggling getting teh lights to code *goes back to the drawing board*

ok i'm officially convinced. you need new wings...

i'm a stubborn mofo lol

Don't say I din't tell you so! I knew coz 'I is done it'!

Mule! :notme:

yeah i know, but i really thought you could get away with it. i put a wing alongside my car and they're not the same shape so no go there...

I thought so too mate but was a no go. Are you going to do the conversion still?

Yes yes, you told me :keule:

I dunno in all honesty. I don't have Xenons so I considered doing the swap for plain halogens first, maybe upgrading later. But if you're not gonna get the LEDs then I don't see much point. Plus unlike you guys I don't intend on running the car until it dies. I'm planning on going back to uni in about 2 years time and I won't need it anymore. Might give the dumbos a go first and see how I get on afterwards - if only I could find a set of 3dr mirrors on eBay!!

there have been a few sets on didnt realise you were looking mate if you need covers witht he indicators drop me a line ive a set of freshly painted black ones
