RS3 Discussion Thread

I do not believe 40k is the price for one of these cars, maybe the very bottom RRP, but thats not an OTR price. Particularly like somebody says above, thats the cost of a fully loaded Golf R.

If you take the difference between the TTS Coupe and the TTRS Coupe the price differential of the RRP is 23%. I think it's fair to assume that the RS3 will be around the same differential over the S3, which would give you an RRP for the RS3 of about £40,300.

Add another 3% on to that for the VAT hike in the new year = £41,546

NOW - convert that to an OTR price, so add about £1,500 for Road Tax, Number Plates etc = £43,046

Ok, you have an RS3 on the road, BUT it won't have Buckets, Nav, Met Paint, 19" wheels, Cruise, FBMFSW these are all extras on RS models. Add all those (using Audi TTRS options prices) and you're probably looking at around an extra £6,250

So your RS3 realisticly will come at a cost of about £49,296 or potentially more if you want to really jazz it up with good spec. Bear in mind that VAT is likely to be applicable to the options list too, so quite easily well in the £50ks

Hmmm at 50k for a decent spec one, its probably better to either tune up your S3 to roughly 340 or buy a second hand TTRS which are somewhere in the 40k bracket if you need a 5 cylinder engine in your life. So to tempt buyers it will have to look stunning which i dont think it will be, seen as ive been told its a 5 door model.

I personally think it will be less, the ROTR price for an RS TT is 45K, and that is at 20% VAT you can get an S3 for like 29K DSG with quite a bit of kit, I think RS3 will start at £38-40K ROTR, than you need to add another £4-6k depending if you really want buckets over there racing seats.

I don't really like the TT RS shape wise, so that is not an option for me.

What do people not see in the sportback? I have the 3dr and I have seen s3 sportbacks and they look nice!

Well I agree with your first bit, there is much more car to be had for the money, a hell of a lot more.

However, make no mistake, there will be people who want it, I gurantee that, even if it's slated in the motoring press, people still want the "look at me" factor or the "it's got 5 cyl and 340bhp" or the "exclusivity" it brings etc etc.

But thats why they make these things in limited numbers, because there isn't a mass market for them, the S3 sells in relatively low volumes already, and the RS3 will be even less desirable to the masses because of price, so they are compensating for that fact by limiting the production, and of course the fact that they will struggle to build many more than that before the current A3 platform reaches the end of it's life.

tku My first preference is a 3 door, no need for 5 doors etc. 3 door is shorter only by a few inches, (I am not sure if a 5 door has less boot space, but if it had, another reason for a 3 door, it is but lighter (guessing), more sporty, (that is a personal opinion), 2nd hand values, not sure on this which one holds better price 2nd hand, a new one 3 door is cheaper, though there is times when carrying passengers think doh! a 5 door be nice. If the RS 3 is only in a 5 door, it would not stop me buying one, but hope to have both options, though looking possible not.

I think you need to compare apples with apples Brett. £29k for an S3, I agree quite normal to get that sort of discount, but the S3 isn't an exclusive limited run car. I was using the base rrp that Audi quote as a base price for the comparison, anything less that that is dealer discretion - which as it happens is not likely to feature when it comes to negotiating the price on a new RS3!!

Order an RS3 without buckets at your own risk, that'll be like trying to sell a three legged horse.

Actually Fair point, I was talking about a discounted S3, but I was also comparing the price to the TT RS as well, and I think and so it should be cheaper than a TT RS, hoping for around 45k with the few extras I want.

I agree if i was to buy one, it would have to have buckets, bose, magnectic ride for a start anything else i could probably live without

If I bought one i'd want a full frontal labotomy as an option, but I'm not sure Audi staff are qualified..

Damn, thats a VERY specific estimate for a car that doesnt officialy exist.
I reckon you could be more accurate than the official configurator:laugh:
Funny, very Partridge-esque :hi:

So, how much will the new S3 be on the new platform then?
Thats more likely to be a future purchase for me.

Cheers
Paul

I look at the A1, and the difference withe A1 S they are talking about, think the S3 on a new platform will be a lot different than the differences of the Top A3 and S3 on current platform, so a big jump in price, even a different engine on the New S3 to come.

How long before Paul realises we are the same person....:)

The current A3 platform will never run out of life all the while Audi have a single old part left in the parts bin.. God forbid the A3 ever goes key-less, has a DAB, touch screen , an air con that works above 25c or anything else 21st century

Isnt it amazing how a lesser brand eg vw has a car that has most of those things now, Scirocco, even the mk5 can have the touch screen ***!!!!

Thats what ****** me of about audi now, a mk5 has better tech that any of the 4 8p faces have ever had & its supposed to be the more upmarket brand, surely the technology should follow suit aswell, stupid me course not, dohhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The first thing to go on the Current Platform parts wise, parts for that old dodgy V6 3.2 litre engine way past it sell by date :p

I have used up all the V6 parts..thats why the rest of you are left with that rattly old turbo laggy thing....Still Diesel is the way forward...:) The 3ltr A5 engine is a peach...no substitute for CC's and cylinders i am afraid :)

I realise of course that could also be construed as me referring to myself and Paddy a pair of old muppets, I'm sure some would agree!

so what does the T stand for in 3.0 TDI?

OH *** beanoir, u know how this will end now, mention a Cayman & it all goes tits up.

Cue Paul

Well I couldn't resist, and Paul loves a good Cayman, and other things too from what i've been reading!

Hmm nice, but a 2 seater I guess, and basic. and is that the real OTR Price, still I don't even mind that colour. Not that quick to 60, unless you add the option of DSG,

Well i've used my rear seats no more than 3 times in the 9 months i've had it, so for me it wouldn't matter, but for most 2 seats is not enough. I bet it will feel an absolute peach to drive though, i'd love one right now, but i'll have to make do with an S and an M, the R can come later. Sounds like Sesame Street!
