A3 (EIGHT PEE!) or Mini Cooper S.... which is quicker??

ok Aythree...lets weigh this up, i said 'dunno if it was mapped or not, lights were blacked out so possible'....the fact that this car stayed with me and the fact that his lights were blacked out led me to believe that it was possible that he could have a map...nothing more :)

I wouldnt ordinarily expect a 170 diesel to stay with me mid range given that i am running a stage 1 map - as i say, simple logic with an inconclusive original comment from myself ;)

now...what the hell are you harping on about

 I know mate, I know. :friends:

You should've just left it at "a car that had no right to stay with me, stayed with me. It must be mapped".
Throwing tinted lights into the mix and then trying to justify it with "statistical" talk and special super powers of elimination made it funny to me.

Last question... mapped or not???

Sod :applaus::laugh:

i owned a cooper S fella and also ran against it with my misus driving that against my stage 1 S3 which matches an 8P S3 (i have done so 3 times against 3 different S3's)

not being funny but unless you have a constructive comment and evidence....

LOL you shouldn't publicly admit your missus (in a 170bhp? cooper s) can keep up with you in your 260+ bhp mapped S3.

Your not hopeful of a racing career are you?

haha almost as bad as your claim of wiping a newer cooper S out in your 182 aye ;) at least mine is realistic

I am happy with my car, i have beaten some pretty impressive machinery including matching newer S3's which i am more than happy with given the newer engine/turbo combo, plus i didn't lose to her Cooper :)

although you could be a gem and give me some handy hints on how to win a mid range race seeing as your clearly a lot more experienced than me... :racer::search:

I used to own a real mini, of the British Leyland 1981 variety, it was without doubt the most fun car I have ever owned. It also felt really fast because of the responsiveness and immediacy of the whole driving experience. But I would never have let my enthusiasm get the better of me at lights and tried to outdrag someone. I'm guessing that subjectivity must come into the comparisons here as well.

Just to try and bring this back on topic a bit....

Britney Spears vs. Madonna in a 1/4 mile drag race, both in a MINI, with blacked out tail lights but no re-map.

I am pretty sure an S3 DSG will beat a 2wd mini off the line in the real world, Launch control. though not to sure if a standard one would or not, but a stage 1 would.

Uh uh uh!!! One of them HAS to be driving an A3, otherwise this thread is going to get moved to the General Auto's forum again. :rulez:

Yeah both a friends 2.0 TDI and my dads RS6 are DSG and I found personally they weren't as quick as a manual would be, all though the RS6 cant really get much quicker lmfao
I've not had alot of time in DSGs though so I don't have alot of experience just saying from what I have, I'd take a manual over auto in anything, I just find it more enjoyable

Glad you used personal, but trust me DSG is quicker than an S3 manual

i thought cars with blacked out tail lights HAD to have remaps?

also won't it depend if the Mini has bonnet stripes or not? i heard they made the car faster

plus it SHOULD be only fit girls allowed them, you drive past one 50% of the time and the driver is reasonably hot, most of the other times its just stupid old people and guys who need to get a more manly car :eyebrows:

BMW Mini should have a no over 28's and Fitties ONLY policy when selling them :) haha

Spot on.

No, but it has the "chilli pack" whatever that is

i think that's suggesting that it's fast enough to set your trousers on fire.

kinda like after you have too much "chilli" in your curry and get the ring of fire the next day

Hence the phrase " this car will set your pants on fire"....?

And they are small enough to drive along pavements....never tried that personally of course :noway:

Yep, never tried it either of course. But remember, if the pavement was wide enough an A3 would be faster.

you dont need a small mini for that, just a stolen police cruiser in Las Vegas :eyebrows:

and I said personally cus I'd not had a lot of experience with the DSG or Auto's but if they really are faster then I wont argue

there's a few videos on youtube of race drivers in GTIs going against each other (manual vs. DSG). there really is no contest. the DSG wins every time.

At GTi International this year the DSG equipped cars were very quick.
Lots of fwd Mk5 Gtis doing excellent times.

Maybe not everyones cup o` char is one thing but they are quicker than manual, certainly in a sprint anyway.

Cheers
