Hi,

I've recently purchased an oem glovebox 6 cd changer to hook upto my oem nav unit, but didn't realise the glovebox has a slightly larger hole than the cd changer itself and the fact that the inside of the glove compartment is slightly different to house the cd changer when fitted from the factory.

So I was wondering if anyone has retro fitted one of these cd changers into a standard glovebox like mine before? And if so what sort of work was involved?

Also I've been looking on eBay and there are a couple of cd changer glove boxes for sale on there but the colour of the glove boxes are different to mine, so if I was to purchase one could I remove the internal part of the glove box and just use that and attach my globe box door to it?

Or better still, does anyone happen to have one lying around that they no longer need or know of anyone who could help me out?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, what colour glove box you got? i have one with a cd changer i don't use that i am going to sell so maybe we could sort something out, mines black, donesn't the glove box door come off?

Hi mate,

My interior colour is black too, well I think it is, either that or a very dark grey almost black colour, I'll double check the interior colour code in my service book tonight.

I'm not sure if the glove box door is removable as I haven't attempted to take it out yet.

I'd be interested in sorting something out with you for the inner part of the glove box with you, or we could do a swap for my inner part which obviously has a bit more storage space in it if you wanted? I've got the cd changer already so don't need that, but I do need the lead to connect it to the headunit though if your willing tp part with that as well? The glove box cd changers on their own are selling for about £95 on eBay if you want a ball park figure to sell yours.

Cheers

Where are you based? as postage would be a nightmare, to be honest i was going to sell the plug/lead with the changer but if it can be removed without buggering up the wirring to the original stereo i'll do something with you, i've put my changer up for £90 so not far out there, the gloveboxes are easy to remove i'll have a look at the connections for the cd changer

The glovebox doors do come off. A bit fiddly, and you'll probably need to take the whole box out to remove it. I've got some pics if ever needed.

James that would be well handy if you can.
Thanks, matt

I'll not hijack this post too much, taking the glove box out is well documented elsewhere.

It's then just a matter of twisting out the little pins through the hinge mechanism, they're not designed to come out, but with a bit of belligerence they will! You can tidy the pin and the plastic up afterwards, and it's never visible anyway.

Matty - I see your down in Hampshire? I'm in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, so not too far, but, I am a hgv driver and I'm due to go to Southampton on thursday this week, so if your around in the afternoon I could meet you at fleet services on the m3 if that's close to you? Or Winchester services?

The lead is just a simple multi plug connection at either end, at thr changer and the headunit. ;-)

Cheers James, i wonder if it would be easier to swap the whole glove box over and change the lock, (i take it they are key specific)

That would be easier matty and something I'd be happy to do as long as we've got the same colour trim.

Yes they are. but swapping the lock is very straightforward.

There are a couple of issues with the gloceboxes ie the lock ect, also my lead is currently connected to the genuine audi ipod lead as this uses the cd changer controls, although i don't use it some pin positions had to be changed without taking it all out i don't remember what was done, i am willing to swap you glove boxes but would want to do it at home in case of any problems, so if you fancy a trip down to Aldershot it can be done, i'm also a heavy driver working nights out of basingstoke so arranging could be a problem but i'm sure we could sort something.

That's fine by me Matt, that's understandable. Are you around any nights where you'll have a night off when I could pop down?

So if I buy thr lead off of you would I br getting thr lead for an iPod as well? or are you planning to remove that from the cd changer lead?

The ipod lead won't be any good to you as you can't use both ( ipod and changer) so i'll remove the ipod lead and sell that on,let me remove the ipod cable and the changer lead and also see how the lock comes out, i can take the box out in a minuite so i'll get back to you, i'll also check my rota and give you some days when i'm off, leave it with me.

Ok so remove the glove box undo the screw and the lock comes out in about 2 seconds flat, i can help you with the glove box subject to colour and obviously condition of lid but i can't help you with the lead as that plug also controls the amp and rear speakers aswell as genuine ipod control, and i would want to sell the car on with ipod control as no cd changer, so if your up for a trip down i'll willingly swap glove boxes with you, check your colour code and let me know,
Cheers
Matt

Ok Matt that sounds fair to me. My glove box lid and inside is in perfect condition with no known marks, but I'll double check it anyway. I'll source a lead myself then and I may even look into getting the same lead as you've got from audi then if you can choose between the changer and iPod, I've got an iPod so that'll be handy. Don't suppose you know how much they are from audi do you? I'll let you know my trim colour code tonight when I get back to the depot and we're go from there.

Cheers mate! And thanks to everyone else who had input on the subject as well. :)

The ipod leads are silly money from audi about £70 if i remember, you'll find them on ebay cheaper though, i'll send you pm with some days i'll be around and we'll change the locks over swap the glovebox's and you haven't had to buy one.

Sounds perfect, cheers for that Matt, I'll speak to you then!
