Im kinda new to this Audi thing but I got my a A4 quattro. It's the B5 platform its a 2.8 v6 only problem is there is some upper engine parts missing. I acquired the car thru Craigslist. You gotta love it! But anyway I been wantin an AWD car for awhile Subaru is ok but everyone wants one or a evo. I like how they drive but no class can't really afford a BMW or Benz so I traded a 94 Honda Civic hatch that needed a head gasket for this A4 and $250 to boot jus had to drive 4hrs for to drop off the civic and pick up the A4.

Come on man its Audi! Why not! right?

So now I got my A4 quattro, so now what's next? And that's y I'm here to get input on what my options are. That's y I'm asking which would b better the V6 or VR6?

So here's my questions?
Will the VR6 engine work in the Audi since its 2.8 engine also?
And if so how well does it work with the quattro system?
Or would I be better off keeping the 2.8 V6 and try to create power that way?

I'm wanting a sleeper :ninja: kind of like an S4, but in 96 there was no S4. Ive been doin research and Im trying to get more information before I start this project.

Not to be a pessimist but I have had Hondas and 6 months ago got a car just like yours to use as a daily driver while my honda track car came off the road to have some stuff done. ... the Honda is still on the road (despite needing an engine rebuild badly) as the Audi has been so unreliable it's untrue.

so what's next? ... checking it over very carefully before you start the throwing cash in the money pit would be my suggestion.

but enjoy if it's working OK, they're quite fun for those times.

VR6 engine isnt an Audi design, so it doesnt fit the B5 bellhousing.

034 Motorsport do an adaptor that allows you to bolt the VR6 upto the audi transmission if you want to go down that route.

Depends how much power your looking for really? S4 engine will more or less bolt in, and the 4.2 V8 from the A8 will also fit with little effort.

I have a car that I'm driving while let the Audi sit. Plus I have to finish up my corrado first. Before I start the Audi project plus its good to get ideas from others. It helps solve questions before I get started and stop and wait just to find an answer. And waiting for my mustang to sell to help with project funding cause moneys tight.

But I do need plug connection and wiring diagrams for just the engine bay. And how would I wire up a 99 steering column to a 96 harness?

For the wiring your best getting yourself a copy of ELSAWin. They pop up on ebay or on the Internet.

99 steering column should just bolt in afaik?

I have been working on my quattro a little bit at a time. Have done some cleaning around the house and found a couple vr6 parts plus my friend gave me his 12valve vr6 engine since he crushed his jetta and fixed his golf. Only thing is that the vr6 motor I got has no cran
k its in the golf but the motor is complete other than that.

I have been on 034 motorsports website and decided to do a vr6 swap. So I was wanting to know I the v6 crank will work in the vr6 ? (Since both are 2.8L)

your to put a vw vr6 engine in an audi a4 2.8 quattro why?

vr6 is a completly different design to the audi v6... vr6 being just a 15degree vee having a common cylinder head. will be a total ball ache to fit in everyway.... and for what very similar power outputs from them both. just fix the audi v6 engine.... its the better engine anyway imo.

and no the cranks are very different (dont even need to see them both side by side) mainly due to the vee angle of the v6 being 60degrees and the vr6 being 15.

either youve not explained very well, or your in cloud cookoo land?

VR6 conversions are certainly not unheard of on the B5 platform.

The usual reason for installation is that it gives you a nice capacity increase for turbo applications, without the headaches that a S4 engine causes to work on it, ie engine pulls for nearly everything you can imagine. Unless you use a newer 24v unit from the R32 or similar then yes, the Audi motor is quite likely to be technically superior, especially if its the 30v version.

The V angle wont make any difference to the crank per se, but the engine is a completely different, completely unrelated design, so its highly unlikely it will be anything like similar.

Look guys I'm not sayin there is anything wrong with the v6 but I have all these extra vw 1.8 and vr6 parts around the house so this is why I'm asking. Plus this is a forum so consider this as me doin homework or researching.
But I'm goin to be building this unit for me. This is something that I want to do right first time and since ill probably buy the extras to mount the vr to the quattro trans. the 12v would just be starting point because its what I have to work with, I would prefer the 24v but I'm goin to wait an see how its goin to work before I build a 24v up.
So not I'm tryin to be rude or offend anyone.

But this is a build project I got time I'm not rushing by any means just takin my time.
