hi,
As discussed on a previous thread i was doing my head gasket etc. I have now removed it at the weekend and the water ports are mega corroded!:( not a happy chap! It will not skim out so my only thoughts are getting it welded buy a pro and then skim it..(if this is possible?) or hunt for a another head!

any ideas/help greatly appreciated

For piece of mind, slap another head on IMO.

Any VVT 1.8T engine's head should do. Because it's from the S3, the head will cost more dosh than say an AMK head from a MK4 Golf. Same thing though, and will work fine AFAIK.

yeah thats what i thought, i would if i had the ability/money to do it all myself

yep i know, but i dont know if your going from normal small ports to large port if you need to get new intake and exhaust manifolds which the OP might not want the hassle off if he just wants it fixed... but it would be awesome. It is saved in my watch list on ebay along with another large port head i have found :)

hmmmm its says it comes with valves and the lot..but its not shown in the pictures. will my bottom end cope with the big ports ect? very very tempted to buy this!

Everything bolts on the same. You will need a large port inlet manifold gasket though. I used to have an AGU engined A3, so if you do buy this, I'll PM you the reg number so you can get the right gasket.

Both Tuffty and I are running large port heads on standard 1.8T blocks (except for the forged roads, and mine is in fact a complete AGU engine).

They fit, they work. End of the day, it's just another 1.8T head.

EDIT: Adding to this, if you have an AMK engine, you will need to swap your VVT cam chain tensioner over. None of the large port engines came with VVT. So it will not be quite bolt on and go.

Lot of money though.... can get large port heads cheaper than that but would still recommend getting the exhaust guides done...

Not a prob with manifolds... small port stuff from the AMK will bolt straight on... One other thing that should be mentioned is that whatever 20v turbo head you end up with, if it hasn't got VVT you will need to transfer that across... I transferred my followers, cams and VVT over from my old AMK head to the AEB large port I now have....

I do not know if the non turbo 20v are suitable though and early 20v heads may have a bit that needs machining off where the tensioner pully bolts up due to an earlier design...

Make sure any head you get has the cam caps that came with that head else you will have issues as they are line bored to the individual heads and don't worry if the head you get has a SAI port as that can be blocked... AMK S3's don't have SAI..

i really wanted a bolt on and go jobby.. but if i can gaim a little from the larger ports ect i mite just go for that and change my stuff over. SAI? whats this, i'm being thick.

another thing there is a £100 surcharge on that head but i don't think they will except mine as it's foobard!

sai is secondary air injection. You wont have it on your AMK, but the AGU does have it which is why you will have to blank it

oh rite cheers. do you think its worth doing in my situation?

well if i was in your shoes where i had to go out and buy a new head anyway then yeah i would very very strongly consider it. As it is, my AMK head is fine, yet i still have the large port head saved in my ebay favourites.

duno really cheap as possible really and preferably skimmed and pressure tested. not sure to be honest alot less than the £500 one on ebay as i mite aswell have that othewise.

68000. i brought it bumped, so dint really know wat it was like until it turned up, its now had a full respray and now sorting the engine out lol not drove it properly yet. some nob-head must have kept filling it up with water and ignoring the problems. ohh and the turbo is ******!! brought a real pup! but once i sort these few problems should be a minter.

Not sure if this is allowed - but I have an APY head for sale at the moment, have a look in the classifieds.

Removed from the car on 88k miles (went to an AGU head).

Comes with everything pictured, but you'd have to swap over your cams, chain + tensioner and blank off the SIA.

Edit: not sure if you'd need the old style coilpacks aswell with this? I had to as the 'bolt down' ones this uses wouldnt fit the my new head... Also have these 4 for sale aswell...
