Replacing OEM B7 S4 Alloys

Hi there.....Newbie needs help.......
Lovin my B7 S4 but want to upgrade alloys from std oem 18" which I think are 8j ET45..... Like the RS4 style but don't think the 19" oem version will fit cos of ET20 offset..... See plenty of RS4 style 19"'s around on A4's so am guessing they are have higher ET..... Maybe the standard OEM A6's would fit my S4.......Any advise appreciated.....
Also have tyre question.....anyone running 245/35/19's on 8 or 8.5 J rims......I hear the wider the tyre the slightly more sidewall so more like a 225/40/19....... really unsure on this one but would like to fit the max width on the A6 19" to get slightly less bone shattering ride.....!!!

I'm currently running Goodyear Eagle GSD3's 245/35/19 on my RS4 reps which are 5x112 8.5J ET45. Only issue I had was on the front where the inner shoulder of the tyre was a little to close to the suspension arm for my liking so I fitted a 4mm shim spacer to both front wheels. Have never had any issues with the wheeels or tyres, however I am currently thinking of getting shot of them, running a winter wheel and getting something a little different for next year.

Thanks Stepho...... Are your rims on an S4 or other......also any effect on the ride or the handling........ a lot of people find the ride too hard.....wondered what you thought.........Cheers

I have an A4 Avant S-line.....................Handling is fine, ride is pretty much the same unless you hit a pothole where it can be teethshattering. I've rarely run standard rims on any of my cars, I usually up the size by an inch or so, infact the only cars I've ran with standard rims were my last 2 before the A4 (mkV R32 and RS6).

Thanks again Stepho.....had to pass on some genuine RS4 alloys as they wouldn't have fitted ET29.....but looking at the A6 19"'s with a ET48 offset which should work......will put on some 255/35's not sue what brand though will likely stick with the Conti's Contact 2......any thoughts.....? cheers

255's will cause rubbing issues as i have them fitted as we speak! my offset is 42 with 5mm spacers on, without the spacers the inner tyre wud be 100% tight on the suspension arm, atm the inner tyre is the thickness of paper of the suspension arm! also because of the 255 with the tyre sits out past the arch by 5 to 6mm! lose the spacer and it will sit in but hit arm and with spacer sits out and rubs over every speed bump an dip on the road! great sidewall protection but just dont work on this model.. they just about fit ok on rear..245 is the max..

im waitin on 235's arrivin, save the hassle plus got good deal on continental contact 3's

ET48 might also cause you some issues on the front suspension arm, I imagine they will be 8.5J wide also if they are from an A6.

OEM RS4 wheels won't fit under the arches on A4/S4 body, needs the arches.

Do you have a Miltek to enhance the beautiful sond of that V8?

Thanks guys for the feedback.......wicked link Stepho........I think I might stick with current OEM 18" set-up......perhaps I should put the money toward the Milteck system as Stepho suggests......the V8 really is a joy...currently also running one of the last 993's and the air cooled beastie also makes nice roar.......luv the S4 however bought it for the Mrs but am always nicking it off her.......!!! Fantastic practical everyday motoring fun....Have a nice drivin weekend.........lol

I'm thinking 19x8 et35 wheels with 245/35/19 tyres. My only concern is every time I have gone up a size wheel the bigger wheel, lower profile tyre emphasises the gap between the tyre and arch so much so that I've lowered my last 2 cars. I can't really be bothered todo that on this one. Going up to 245 tyres may help a bit but I can't find many pics to confirm it's not going to irritate me

With the S4 std set-up I wouldn't think you would need to lower it on 19's. I'm running 19's on standard s-line suspension and its not needing lowered.

if ur standard set was 235 40 18 and now ur goin 245 35 19 then the gap should be the same give or take one or two mm.. nothing in it..few taps on a claculator will tell u the dif accuratly..

A tyre/offset calc reckons the tyre sidewalls would be 8mm lower but weirdly overall the tyre and wheel would be 10mm taller from the ground to the top of the tyre

So they would be pretty much the same

My Drive has a slight incline, so not the best of shots on the level the rear sits on the tyre top while the fronts are slightly higher. I'm running 245/35/19 Goodyear Eagle GSD3's. Thinking of selling them on shortly as I'm sticking on some new winters in a week or so.

is yours an S4 mate as those brakes look pretty small, what are the size of the S4 brakes on the B7?

Not a S4 just a S-line.

MJS993 - Unfortunately the deal for running 18's through the winter fell through so looks like I'll need to hang on to them a little longer. Must say I find the Goodyears VERY slippery at present, I'd say they were a more summer tyre.
