I've been banned from driving

I've been banned from driving for 6 months, well gutted.

And my mum has now nicked my car for everyday use, 1st time she came back after driving it she says

"It's quite quick off the traffic lights isn't it and you cant tell when you reach 100 can you"

Racked up too many speeding offenses. I am\was a FedEx courier driver so was easy to pick the points up, but did only have 12. Court said you can keep your license under exceptional circumctances, turns out losing your job is not an exceptional circumstance!!!!!!!

Unlucky mate, so all the points you accumulated was relating to driving for FedEx during work hours, surely they would have come in 3's, I know I aint been driving like a loon six I got 6 points on my licence!

Yeah they all came in 3's, first 3 were from speeding in car two years ago. The rest have all been in works vans, Nah i aint been driving like a loon much, the last 3 were for doing 75mph on the a14 got caught by a mobile speed camera

Really, what a load of ********, stuff like this really ****** me off, sh*t loads of immigrants driving on foreign licenses when they're not supposed to, sh*t load of people driving around without insurance, but then someone who needs to drive for their job.......... easy target. Gutted for you mate, if it's not bad enough you've lost your license and you can't drive your car, you've also lost your job.

Unfortunately, that's how it work in this country, obviously, if you are doing 40k miles a year instead of 10k miles a year, you are 4 times more likely to get done for speeding, that's a fact, but whether you do 40k or 10k miles, it's the same 12 points on your licence you could lose.

Saying that, if you wasn't speeding in the first place, you wouldn't get done. Sometime you just have to hold your hands up, even I have 6 points myself, which is a good lesson for me to drive like a granny for the last few years I tell you.

Thanks for all the messages lads, I'm seein this as a one door closes another opens kind of thing. I hated my job and wanted out for the last 18 months anyway lol.

And yeah I do get the whole if I wasn't speeding I wouldn't of got the points. I was never driving dangerously , I stuck to speed limits in towns\citys\residential areas, I only ever put my foot down on A roads, dual carriage ways and motorways which is where I got all of my points.

The speed limit for vans was introduced in 1984, sorry but all the vans I used to drive including the LDV maxus, are alot more technologically advanced and safer then let's say a Ford Capri. And anybody who drives any type of vheicle can feel that any type of load, freight or number of people in the back of your car will change the driving characteristics of your vehicle so you drive accordingly. Even weather plays a big part in how you drive and how the car feels.

Oops...........think I'm rambling now, thanks again to everyone, I've got to go get ready and get my **** down the job centre so I can see about signing on, and once again to thank you to the judicial system that thought it would be a good idea to stop me from workin and make me claim off the state!!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, do you have a gauge on the type of mileage you covered in this job?, and was there any benefit of driving quicker to get the job done, like was there a set time you need to get your items to their destinations?

Yeah I was covering 200-350 miles a day mon-thurs then 150-200 on a friday, so let's average that at 1000 a week. I was starting at 7 in Mornin delivering and collecting freight til 1600 then make way back to depot collect everybody elses freight load on to my van or LWB Sprinter then head down to stanstead airport for 1845 to deliver freight there so used to be long days if ya hit traffic and travelling everywhere at 60mph is tedious lol

Yeah thats what i thought Magistrates said it weren't if I had dependants that relied on me for gettin about then I could of kept my license

Sorry to say that the magistrate was having you on.

I was band from driving for 18months (all be it for a more serious offence than totting up 12 points) but I informed the court that my disabled, wheer chair bound mother required me to drive her to appointments etc. made no difference.

Also the "i need my license for my job" was being used by anyone and everyone. The response is now, "you knew you needed your license for your job, yet you still broke the law. tuff. (or other more legal type words)"

The 6 month's will fly in Tidy.

So it bl**dy should be, especially if somebody has comitted driving offences serious enough to lead striaght to a ban (i.e. not just racking up your 12th point).

My mate got banned for 2 months and it was only 2 months becuase he used his "i need it for work" but he does work for the NHS, not sure if that helps or not. He wasnt just going abit over the limit either, 130mph was his average speed..

I think they can use there disgretion to decide case to case. Alot of people get away with those 'driving improvment scheme'

That is serious hours driving though. No wonder their all nutters. Monday I was following a delivery van along the a417 all the way from worcester to hereford in the wet and struggled to keep up in my s3 haha.
