Hi guys,

I just bought a Audi A3 1.6 FSI Sport (2004 04 plate). It came with factory Xenon lights (i know this because of the ballists and glass projectors in the head lights). Thing is the O/S (driver) headlight is cracked. I want to replace this but after spending hours and hours on the web I've had no joy locating the exact part!

The cluster has been removed and the part number on this unit is:

8P0 941 004E by Automotive Lighting (Audi part). I cannot find anything on this at all - any help? I want to buy one and eBay has been no help.

Then I got thinking why don't I swap both headlight clusters for after market ones with day light runners. I looked around on eBay and all the ones I found are for Halogen lights. Am I completely misunderstanding all this?

Please Help!!

Many thanks.

dont buy the aftermarket drl ones they look ****, a pic of the light would be usefull too

are the after market ones that bad?? should i just stick to the original xenons?

Here's a pic of the unit (this is actual the ok one..its driver side one that cracked):

Here's a pic of the back:

Here's a pic of the Part number label:

If anyone can help locating the original even at least that would get me on the road again.

Any help appreciated! Ta.

i cant see imageshack at work photobucket however i can if its nottoo much of a pain could you upload there?

I have but it's a bit weird. I told them the part number and they said it wasn't recognised (!?!?) and then based on the VIN number of the car they found it and priced is at £300 for one headlight! Obviously the stealer's prices are stupidly inflated so I thought I'd ask for the part number (so I could shop around) and he wouldn't tell me! Said that it doesn't come up!

I thought it was odd that I have what I think is a fairly common part - simply Xenon Headlights for a fairly standard car and when I google it doesn't bring any up for sale. I was wondering if I've got all this wrong or i'm approaching the situation in the wrong way. :-S

OK - give me a while and I'll go on ETKA (electronic parts catalogue) and see if I can find it.

However, £300 is probably not that far off, Audi parts are very expensive.

P5SND - my apologies - yes I think they are single Xenons. I've heard murmerings that the part number may have changed (looking over stuff in other forums) but I can't be sure.

It's a strange one but I have found what I think it is ! The 'E' at the end is causing confusion 'cos that's not in ETKA.

It is a single Xenon headlight and I need the PR number in your service book to identify the new number. It should start with 8J. Also VIN no. would help to identify which version. Label under boot floor also has PR numbers.

If you don't want to publish VIN then PM me

EDIT = 8P 941 003 and 004 are actually listed as halogen headlights - are you sure they are xenons ? If so they may have been converted.

Details provided by PM. To my knowledge the slim metal ballist that powers the Xenon unit sits on the headlight cluster in a specifically made groove. Looks factory to me. Is there a way I could identify this? I thought if there's a glass projector it would be xenon. I've just been told it was an option at the dealer to have xenons and the Audi dealer has fitted it.

they are single xenons, have you tried pming sarah's a3 on here she has the same setup and may be able to give you the p/n off her light

rang Eurocarparts who have identified the part (from their description) but as they have the Bosch branding they aren't able to tell me what the Audi part number is either! Crickey! But here's how it was described:

Driver side headlamp with projector, takes a D2S bulb (xenon), H7 for full beam, has indicator light. That's pretty much the one.
I'm still hoping Mike can find something based on the details I've provided.

P5SND - I'll see if I can get in touch with her. Thank you.

Also just rang another Audi dealership who told me my old part number was discontinued and replaced with: 8P0 941 030N! Driver side headlamp with projector, takes a D2S bulb (xenon), H7 for full beam, has indicator light. Sorted (i think). How where's the best (cheapest) place to get these things? Anyone recommend me somewhere...I'll hunt over Google and eBay of course.

Definitely need the PR number. Looks like this has been a dealer aftermarket (or after manufacture ) fit.

The control unit (ballast) seems to fit underneath the headlight unit from the sketch in ETKA

Hi Mike,

Thanks for looking that up. Yep the ballist was beneath the headlight. I'll look this PR number up tonight. Any ideas where more specifically i'm looking for it? Does that new part number I provided mean anything in relation to this vehicle? 8P0 941 030N Thanks.

If that number is correct then your PR number should be 8JJ.

Price from Audi for that part no. is £330 but it looks like that includes all the bits except the xenon bulb, igniter and control unit.

The bulbs are £155 for two, the igniter is £102 for two and the control unit is £345 for two !!

Seems like you can't just buy the glass !

Good luck - I'm sticking to good old halogen uprated bulbs. :icon_thumright:

Edit - just read your last question - that part number does not actually relate to your VIN but if the PR is 8JJ then that is what the manufacturer fitted. If it isn't then it's a dealer fit after manufacture
The PR numbers are shown on the inside front cover of the service book with the same label in the spare wheel compartment.

Sheesh! just a little bit expensive!! Luckily I've got all the bits...just the outer casing is required. TPS selling the 'correct' headlight for £224.65. I'll get the PR number as dicussed and here's hoping that all I need.

You'd never think a simple crack in plastic could end up potentially costing £600-700! Need a higher paying job me thinks :)

225 sounds about right mate my housings are 300 a piece for led bixenon adaptive before bulbs and ballasts

Or you could get a Focus !!! :sadlike:

What was the PR number ?

Hi Mike,

Apologies I didn't get a chance to get to the car (in bodyshop). However I took the broken headlight down to my local TPS and they showed me the 8P0 941 030N. It's exactly the same, same shape, same positioning of the internal lights. I've bought this and will be trying to put it in over the weekend. I'll still get the PR number for reference over the weekend.

Thanking you and P5SND for your great assistance on this!

glad i could help bud, pics when youre done! and a well earned bevvy for yourself

Well done mate - hope the bits all go together ok.

Interested in the PR number so I can cross check with ETKA. As I said before your VIN was not recognised so I got a bit confused (not difficult !!) :beerchug:
