Ford on par with Audi?!

Ive owned 5 over the last 6 years, as a personal car. Meaning i pay the bills.
No problems at all.
My guess is Paddy that you have had a very bad experience. ie you own a dog, a pup, basically a wrong one.
Dont take your expensive experience & frustration out on others, just buy a desirable Audi, rather than a one they dont make anymore because they were too much trouble.
Lets face it, they call it a V6. But in real terms it isn`t is it. Its a straight up & down block that they tried to cram everything into. Basically it didn`t work.
Every Manufacturer does something stupid at some point, & unfortunately you have been the end user of a dog.
As for Vauxhall`s lifetime warranty! HA, have you ever tried to make a warranty claim with Vauxhall. Let me tell you i have, & its not worth the bog paper its written on.
First you quote Fords being good, & now you are talking about Vauxhalls!
Why are you on here Paddy??
It appears you love evreything but Audi`s.
Go & buy a Vauxhall, then try & make a warranty claim.
You will soon come running back to VAG, which in my experience, is by far the best warranty ( & easiest to claim on) going.
Good luck with your old mans Mondeo, or your boring Insignia, or whatever else you choose to buy.
Please do it sooner rather than later though, so all on here can get rid of you, i`m sure everyone else is just like me . Tired of hearing you whinge on.

If we are talking VFM should we not talk about resale and residuals?
Ok the Ford may be cheap when new but worth two thirds of **** all come trade in time.

And we shouldnt forget(again) the diminishing return issue neither.

Asking if the A4 is worth 12K more than the MOndeo because it ticks the same boxes is like asking if the 911 Turbo is worTH 50K more than a Datsun err I mean NISSAN GTR ?
I doubt PORSCHE or 911 owners really care that the NISSAN has same/similar attributes.

In fact, comparing `standard` product or brand to a `premium` or luxury item is a pretty hollow debate.
There simply isnt a linear equation that proves whether a car is VFM compared to another.

By admission, the OP bought a Ford Mondeo because his circumstances dictated so, not because it was his first choice of car.
As a tool its VFM but not in the desirability stakes, and thats hard, if not impossible, to quantify and varies from person to person.

A MONDEO simply would not represent VFM to me, as its not a car a wish to drive everyday. So even if it was 5K to buy, it would still be 5K`s worth of something I didnt want.

cheers
Paul

Anyway S3 v Cayman
Petrol v diesel
BMW v AUDI

etc...

But VFM is my point, the guy wants to buy a house and that is why he needs to ask whether the Audi is worth the extra money...... and a smaller house. The Ford might not be value for money to you but if, god forbid, you lost your job and selling the Audi and getting a Focus means you can pay the mortgage for another year...then the Ford becomes worth its weight in gold because let’s face it, its going to do the job of an Audi for half the price........
VFM is so personal its difficult to use it as a justification to others. My boss is a multi millionaire and drives a Skoda Fabia and resents every penny it cost him !, its money down the plug to him where as every penny spent on his home and family is an investment..
I tend to agree in so much as the day you buy your new motor its on a count down to Zero financially. He simply cant understand why I poor money on the Audi when his Fabia is the the same year, has done twice the mileage and last week had its first problem… a failed coil pack ! My car cost 3 times as much, has had £12k spent on it in 3 years and I have 6 coil packs and plugs in the boot….just in case..lol…Now ask me if the Audi is VFM….then ask him the same question…and you realise why he is the millionaire J..

The thing is, jordan is doin the right thing. He's buying a house and sellin the car, well done Jordan, proud of you are kid. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with him buying a mondeo as a runners.
Just dont start a thread saying fords are on par with audis when they are clearly not

Erm...you are getting too personnal, really no need for that. Oh and I also have the dog of a car as you describe it and as far as im concerned its NOT a dog. Like all cars and engines there will always be a few that are worse than others but your sweeping statement is crap.

TBH P if, god forbid, the job was lost, it wouldnt be a Ford/Vauxhall/Pug etc etc that id go buying! I'd happily buy a really old Audi or MK2 golf and to me that would be huge VFM and still have what I like in a car! All different opinions I know but I'd far rather have something with some character and soul......

4 years ago at the age of 17 I learnt to drive in a Focus 1.6. Personally thought it was a joy to drive and the reason I passed my driving test and only took 6 (2hr) lessons! Can't comment on any other fords, but if they were that sh!t there wouldn't be so many of them on the road. All to your own likes & dis-likes.

Oh and smudge_don all the best in regards to saving for a house etc.
R8 in a few years...:yum:

Cheers buddy, Lambo over an R8

IN MY OPINION i believe it to be on par with my Audi, well worth saving myself about £10k

Don’t worry about it S....lol a3dee is another newbie here and reality hasn’t sunk in yet ! If i wanted a cheap car i would buy one. Truth is i can buy anything i want but its strange, when you reach that stage in life you tend to find that knowing you can buy what you want sort of takes the necessity to do it away :)..
Personally i am with smudge and wish him loads of luck. He is starting out and has his priority’s sorted, he will be fine. I have been there done that, paid off the mortgage and am at present buying a second home in Norfolk. That will mean a 350 mile round trip at weekends..(or some weekends) so Smelly will be clocking up some miles now....lol

I expect A3dee wasn’t even born when i brought my first car and my first house but he still feels the need to come in a free chat room and pontificate over what I should and shouldn’t do..lol Kids eh :) I have a point of view as regards the Mondeo and i will put that point of view however much it ****** of dee :) ( but then you know me)..A spade’s a spade :)

I agree P, Jords doing the right thing and hes a happy bunny so thats good. We've all been there and a couple of years down the line, spare cash becomes available again, its all good and part of growing up eh! Cars really are money pits, we all know this, some are fun some are headaches but at least bricks and mortar (most of the time!) wont loose too much cash!

I have nothing against a Mondeo or most cars, all have plus's and minus's, ive owned all sorts so tried lots. I love the VAG range, not so much the VWs of late as I only really like the Rocco atm, but absolutley love the older VWs and Audis as they just have so much more character and soul than all modern cars seem to lack, and thats not having a go, just my opinion, I just love the older ones.

poor Smelly! But at least you can have weekends away! enjoy........

Yup some newbies will come and go eh lol!

I think we have about 6 threads going on here, too many subjects, too many debates, its making my head hurt.
Im off to look at porn instead....:ninja:

cheers

Shud have bought a mondeo in the first place then

except he bought the Audi for other reasons, has bought the Mondeo subsequent to that and found that it's better than he was expecting.

i don't understand why all this is so hard to understand.

1. the thread's creator is expressing an opinion. you're entitled to disagree, but i get the impression on here that if you don't go with the crowd you're somehow in violation of some unwritten rule. ppl are allowed to have different opinions to you. if you disagree that's fine, but there's no need to be rude about it.

2. this place is meant to be vaguely sociable. someone who is well respected on this forum has decided for perfectly sensible reasons to leave the marque. we should be wishing him well instead of belittling his choice

3. audi are not the be all and end all. stop being such fanboys (and girls). it makes your opinion harder to respect. audi make good cars. we clearly all believe that or we wouldn't own/have owned one. but that doesn't mean there aren't other good cars out there. there's definitely a smell of badge snobbery in the air. don't forget our car has the same chassis as numerous VWs and Seats and a Skoda. someone whacks four rings on the front and all of a sudden it's a more desirable product and worth 25% more? i think there's an element of hypocrisy about that

lol, wont just be your head that hurts then lol! You'll go bog eyed too!!!

Please can we keep with the rules on this thread

So..................if Ford is on par with Audi, and LOADS cheaper, lets all sell up and buy fords?

Nath, simply saying the Mondeo is a good car and the A4 is not particullaly good. I dont want either as i dont need a family car but i dont think because you like something you should clear off and buy it ! anymore than i think the twit dee who thinks i should leave AS for good because i like the mondeo...has a brain...
Mind you he also says he speaks for everyone else so maybe i should ....lol :)

No, as usual you are presuming.
You dont know who i am, nor do you know what i know.
Thats plainly obvious.
The 3.2 has always been a heap of unreliable trash.
Ever since it started life as a 2.8 in the four motion Golf mk4.
If you want some good advice, get rid of your heap of trouble.
Get over it & move on.
May i suggest a 125bhp 1.8 tdci Mondeo which has a diesel engine which originated from a design that was fitted to a 1985 Escort van.
Now thats progress for you.
Fords are a little like you paddy, from the dark ages.
Or even better buy a 1.6 tdci focus, they have a Peugeot engine as Ford are so inept they cant design there own.
Oh & by the way 60k miles & they are knackered.
Still think Fords are good?
Just buy a good Model Audi & you will have a different outlook.

and yet ppl spend £200k on Bentleys with engines that originated in the 50s.
i'd also like to remind you that BMW share engines with Peugeot.
Jag shares engines with Citroen.
Merc shares engines with Chrysler.

the list goes on.
and on.
and on.

it's not because they're inept. it's because it's what makes them the most profit. and that's important to a car company. i'm sure they know a damn sight more about it and have damn sight more knowledge about it than the quick skim of Top Gear mag you seem to have based your opinion on.

He seems familiar to someone from a few months back under a different name! And no hes not the voice for the rest of us, as well you know!

Please explain why you are like a dog with a bone over a particular member and the 3.2! If you knew what you were on about then maybe folk on here would listen but sadly you dont! Just because someone has had issues on the 3.2 doesnt make it a 'heap of trouble' or a 'dog' of a car! HAve you not seen the tons of threads regarding the heap of issues the 2.0 tdi has had!!! But it doesnt stop us buying them. Maybe you can be more constructive in your posts rather than attacking and insulting!

Hey Jord, does the Mondeo have a good sized boot?? You will need it once your missus gets you on decorating duties and gardening! Believe me, your chores list will soar!!!! Least it will earn you some brownie points!!!

I might have had a ton of trouble with the 3.2 but most of that is down to Audi not being able to diagnose the fault in the first place...hardly the cars fault....but i have stuck with it because its still better than anything else A3 :) now its fixed its a great car...notice old angry dosnt tell us what he will drive when he is old enough :)

sarah is the dummy back in now?, is it safe to bring up the 3.2 vs s3 war

haa haa you nutter, its your dummy im using!!! Hey I will happily admit the 3.2 has issues and the S3 is far more tuneable etc etc etc but as you know after all my issues with turbos in the past I actually wanted a non turbo car. If I could afford one, I'd probably get an S3, sadly I cant but Im happy. But if I could afford maybe I'd also like to bolt that cheeky turbo onto my iccle 3.2 lol, then i'd give you a race for your money or should I say see if you could catch me to get your dummy back off me lol

Right, just picked up the replacement for the Audi, a 55 plate Ford Mondeo 2.2TDCi ST and drove it home from Newcastle

I have to say, i am very impressed! It's easily on par with the Audi for comfort and performance, i would say it handles even better than the Audi and the build quality isn't far off either

The interior isn't quite up to scratch in comparison, but is still very good.

All the toys on the Audi are included with this Mondeo as well. Xenons, auto levellers, headlight washers, auto lights, auto wipers, rear parking sensors, heated seats, climate control, cruise control

So for nearly a 3rd of the price, it looks as if i've got a right bargain ;)

Will still be sad to see the Audi go, but i've defo got a worthy successor to it

3rd of the price! with all due respect a ford is a ford, bad build quality ,cabin is cheap hard plastic,re-sale values not good (3rd of price) 2 years and it will start to rot underneath there just crap and im sure alot on here will agree a ford will never ever match or even come near to audi. You need serious help (LOL) Theyve got no style ! a lad i know bought a focus rs brandnew and kept it for 5 weeks and said it were crap,he lost out on it,he now drive a new skoda vrs and sayshe loves it! ford dont even match skoda,oh and the lad iknow works for audi crewe.

I'm sorry to have disappointed you Jordan, all the best with you and the mondeo

That might be true, but for me his dry one liners are often class!
I don't think I've ever seen an N8 post that is more than one sentence, and that kills me! :lmfao:

One liners ftw
