My vinyl wrapped S4 Avant *lots of pics!!*

Jay correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't have an S4 do you? Normal A4's have a two piece bumper, whereas it's a one piece unit on the S4.

My bumper and the S4 have the same set up, the only difference is the shape of the diffuser / valance - I was under the car last night and he's spot on, you have to remove the bumper (unfortunately!) - it's a shame as I wanted to take it off and spray in black but I will have to come up with a plan B now!

Yeah sorry I wasn't very clear, in saying 'normal' A4's I meant saloon/avant, and not the cab has the same one piece set up as the S4.

No worries, it's a real shame it doesn't come off simply as it's a dull grey plastic colour and I really wanted to make it black and tidy up the back end - I think I'm going to look at having it wrapped like "Mr Foster's" above - probably the best solution!

Turkster - yes i did the tour of DC but i have my own driver over here ;), nice V8 brand new Cadillac!!!! Awesome buildings here with loads of history. NYC is more me though!

MLody - its certainly not easy mate :)

Cfoster, I have a question.....is it more intense than tinting a window?? (thats if you have tried the window tinting that is...)
I wasted 2 cars worth trying to tint my scooby yrs ago.lol so wondered if its more of a ball ache with the vinyl what with it having more curves etc.

Yer NYC rocks 24/7 I loved the city, i must get back there soon at some point, I only got 2 days there when i was there and then it was back to sunny England, shame them concord standby deals are not still going, 1 way for only £500, im rambling so i will get my coat!

J7USS - its completely different to window tinting mate, for starters wrapping is done dry, is a lot more durable etc....

Turkster - indeed NYC is an awesome place, had to work but had a few spare days so flew the missus over for a spot of shopping!! Those were the days with concorde although never got to fly in it. Upper Class Virgin for me!!!! (the plane sort, not the innocent female unfortunately!!!!). Just got back from DC as well which is a superb place as well, although not as hussly bussly as NY.

Anyway aiming to redo the rear quarter of the car tomorrow, was the first panel I did but will be removing the chrome strips this time to get a better finish! Will post some new pics tomorrow once its done and my new black audi badges are fitted!!

As I'am in complete admiration,to someone Like your self to take on such a brave task, and I do think it looks fantastic !!! The perfectionist in me can't help but wonder if you've got round to vinyl/covering the door/boot and flitch closers ?

I think I might chance the wraping next summer. Id say the bonnet + the roof and the doors wouldnt be that bad, its the bumpers and all the more difficult parts Im worried about

awesome job! was going to get this done to my Avant over winter but decided to stick with the same colour now :)

Digger - I havent done the door shuts due to the fact that they are a complete pain in the ****, especially being a 4 door car you'd always get joins. Its something I may do after but it needs a LOT of patience, more than what I have!!

mlody - if conditions are 100% the roof is ok to do but the problem you have is that its facing upwards, meaning that you will get dust particles underneath very easy. Bonnet is ok but a large area to do, took me about 2 1/2 hrs for the bonnet. Easiest panels are the front wings and doors, although still time consuming.

Managed to get the rear quarter done again today and gonna attempt the mirrors tomorrow, carbon first if I can do it!!
Turkster - no interest in making a video sorry!! There are some on youtube showing how its done and its all down to practice so a video wouldnt be very useful.

Thats nice! I think I might chance it next summer. What would the cost of vinyl be? Where did you get it from? (if you can share it :)) And a question that has always bogged me down: What do you do with the endings? Say like if you are doing the corner of one of the panels, how do you finish it?

iv got a brand new 60 plate trafic sport van next week and it getting it all wrapped up asap half black half white ill have to put pics up!

Yeah sorry quattrojames i'm having a blonde moment i was thinking that the a4 was the same as the s4.......... just shoot me in the head lol

This looks absolutely amazing mate, very nice job you have done there. Looked at getting my a3 done white or matt black got quotes of around £1100 at going rate which stopped that plan, fair play for having ago yourself though mate :)

would you mind do a pic by pic on the mirrors, I tried my mirrors in carbon, its surprisingly stiff stuff when cold, I had to use two parts for my mirrors, and couldn't get the inside curves right. I'll have another go. I've just done my piano black interior trim carbon too, which came out nice, the white on yours looks awesome.
good work

What did you do around the back right rear qtr window? No chrome? I want to try and hide mine!

Shane - £1100 is about right for matt black as the cast matt vinyl is dearer than conventional gloss!

Matttrs - doing one of the mirror covers as we speak, too late for pics, plus I'd never do them the same way, i just do it as I go along. You need to keep the vinyl at room temp minimum as you say otherwise it will be stiff and eventually crack. I may just do them white if I lose interest!

iyrix - I removed the chrome surrounds and painted them matt black!

there's no place for that kind of sensible talk on this forum sir!! Besides, if you have a perfectly health S4 that you love why risk buying a ****** one just because it's the colour you fancy one particular wednesday. Vinyl wrapping a car means you take it all off again! genius! And there's the fun of actually trying to do it yourself.

Anyway, you seem to have two guns in your avatar instead of an audi. what's that all about? :)

I love your car! It looks amazing. I take my hat of to you sir.

I'm around romford/chelmsford a fair bit. Might see you around! If so i'll give you a good blast of my horn and a wave!!

Hats off to you mate. Well done looks like a really good job.
Vinyl is the way forward so much cheaper than spraying got my roof/spoiler wrapped black :) only cost £100
My next car I will get wrapped

Cheers chaps, I wouldve loved to buy a white S4 Snowball1969 but as someone else said they didnt make them in white :(. Rather than the risk of paying £2k plus for a respray wrapping is much easier, plus when selling it I can always remove (although admittedly it looks the nuts in white!!).

Just finished painting the grill surrounds and lower window surrounds so will be giving a wash soon and i'll get some new piccies. Decided to keep the mirrors chrome now, mainly because they were being a total bitch to wrap, and secondly it kind of keeps the S4's 'originality'!

Managed to get outside and take some snaps after giving it quick wash this afternoon. All the window surrounds are now matt black, rear badges are black (bought them like it) and the front grills are now black! Only things i'm going to be doing now is getting the windows tinted, lowering springs and replace the wheels, oh and order the non-res centre section for my Milltek (bit too quiet with the resonator!!). I may add a Cupra front splitter as well!!

Few pics....

Sweet! I look forward to the wheel choice.

'If' it were mine, I think I'd return to the original badge with a splash of red, and also a full size rear plate - all personal though, and much respect to you to what you've done

oooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhh that looks good. It's inspiring actually to see what can be done with a degree of subtlety to make a car look seriously eye catching (without resorting to massive spoilers and neons that is)

Its classed as temporary so DVLA dont care, insurance need to be advised though.
