Hi guys so I need some help, Ive had a genuine RS4 steering wheel since I got my A3 (05 pre facelift) and was wondering if anyone in here could give me a hand with info on fitting it?

any general help would be appreciated, I want to know if it'll be a straight swap or what kind of stuff needs done if not.

Thanks Richy

aren't the buttons completely different on the RS4 wheel? i can't imagine this is going to be very straight forward at all...

well the steering wheel I have doesn't have buttons, but I', not fussed if they dont work just aslong as the airbag does and it gets fitted.

hmm... upload a pic because i thought all RS4 wheels were multi-function.

no the RS4 is MF the A3 isnt, i dont have a MF A3 steering wheel, what i meant was I dont care if the buttons dont end up working lol, what i need is just to get the wheel on :D

If your car is the split grill model, I don't believe you will be able to get your airbag working correctly. Problems between a single and dual stage system.

Is this the wheel you want to fit?

Yeap Scottie is right, unless you specifically wire in the correct stage of the 2 stage airbag the rs4 wheel has, then it may not even go of.

yea thats the wheel, and do you guys know if Audi would be able to fit it with the dual stage airbag? or even know of any one who would know more on the subject?

The wheel can be fitted but possibly with risk of airbag not deploying when needed, however the airbag controller can be upgraded, but its a heavy job, I'd be willing to take it on, but by the hour mate & it wont be cheap, given have to take out center console that houses armrest & gear surround etc to get to the controller plus new wires as it uses different sizes.

as nige says its doable but not one worth it imho for a steering wheel but then hey look what im doing for led drls depends how you value it

but you had to replace the front end anyway. you paid a little more and made the car a lot nicer looking.

however you're not jeaopardising your safety to do it

To do the upgrade what kind of time scale would you be talking roughly and what kind of price? The wheel is definitely something I want fitted properly, and it's not a cheap part to buy :/ so I'd be fairly disappointed if it just sits about collecting dust :(

You don't know of anyone in Ireland who might be able to do the upgrade as a trip to england would be an option but as a last means

should perhaps have done your homework before you bought it? lol

i'm sure it'll all be worth it once it's fitted - and it'll look very good.

Yeah I'm regretting it slightly now lmao, but I've seen it on Mk5 Golfs and some other cars with the A3 platform and thought hey must not be that hard if a golf can get one xD

Yea I agree once its on it'll transform the inside a bit more making the car that much more mine! :D

So thought I'd try my luck and see if there was any chance of Audi fitting it, well gues that was a waste of time as they tried to convince me to look at golf R wheels and had the nerve to say that someone had come in over the past few weeks missing his RS4 steering wheel, I was quite surprised in honesty with that not so much the not fitting tho, but they might want to look at a course on manners and courtesy was not pleased

Anyway NHN if I was to bring the car to you how long do you think it might take to do everything with an estimate price for labour? If its no hassle

Regards Richy

I have the same thing going on. Have bought a new steering wheel for my 03 A3. What else do I need except for the airbag ECU and the new wires?
For the different mods that I have in mind for my car, I already need to open up the dash and center console. If I could do it at the same time ...

if you upgrade the ecu etc every airbag will need changed out to a dual stage one

Every airbag? Seats, curtain and passenger airbag?

the seat ones should be fine but teh curtain passenger and drivers airbags will all need swaping out

And does the new airbag fit on the current dash? Is it just a swap?
How about the cables, are these separate ones or are they included in the interior loom?

NEVER RESEARCHED IT THAT FAR IT WOULD COST A MOUNTAIN TO DO SO I LEFT IT AND SAVED FOR THE S3
