my a3 is lowred on coilovers and the driveshaft has broke 2 times now! the gearbox still spins but it aint spinning the actuall shaaft, could this do with the car being to low? havent got a whiteline arb ordroplinks.think its only lowered 45 - 50. geting fed up with this now!!! any help be appreciated, thank u

its too low mate. i had to get eibach arbs to clear it properly. now i have no problems with even 4 ppl in the car. raise it until u can get a new arb

would you say its that causing the problem? drivehsaft ,all the bearing at the end of the driveshaft where ti goes into the gearbox have all grinded away.not even balls any more lol

Hehe "Boy racer" springs to mind in this case...

The whole lowering topic has been covered time & time again & some folks never learn... I did, years ago & learned the hard way...

If you're going to lower a car, do it right & dont just chuck on a set of springs..

Oh & I have a set of standard S3 ARB's which might help :yum:

I had a Little ARB against driveshaft rubbing. Was worried of a broken driveshaft so removed the arb altogether! I know people on here will look down on this, but there is no noticable difference in the handling without it. And as long as you remove all remnants of the arb including the droplinks you shouldn't have any MOT issues either. Many GTis are running without ARBs over on E38. I just used an angle grinder to cut the ARB near the bend near the subframe, removed the droplinks and bushes and pulled the ARB out. Job done! No more issues...

May fit a whiteline ARB once they're back in stock

stop making random guesses at things!

Do it properly, or raise it back up.

To fit a TT anti roll bar you'll need TT/S3 front struts, as the ARB mounts to the coilover body and not the wishbone. this if effort that you don't need to go to.

Buy an uprated anti roll bar with larger hoops and your problem will be solved.

Don't just remove the ARB totally, that's fine if you just want the looks, but it's a bad idea for the handling.

Agreed. If you do remove the anti roll bar do not gun the car around corners. I have done this for the looks and being a 1.6 do not drive the car too spritedly.

Wanted to eradicate the rubbing issue before the whitelines are back in stock without having to wind the coilies up.

Although on a sidenote, my theory is if you remove the ARB and wind the coilies down the car's centre of g is significantly lower which should reduce the instability of removing the ARB.

Erm maybe to a certain extent, but I don't agree. The purpose of the ARB is to reduce body roll, even if your centre of g is low, it doesn't fully counteract the compression of the suspension when your car goes around a bend. With an ARB fitted, the lower part of the suspension movement relative to the car chassis is transfered onto the same component on the other side, so the twist torque of the anti-roll bar always tries to fight against the compression, therefore reducing roll. Also on situations where both of your wheels aren't level, i.e one wheel is riding on a hump, the anti-roll bar will be twisted and transfer the force to another wheel to push it down, so the car body will remain balanced. Without ARB, you wont get any of those benefits...So i recommend you still fitting one :p
