I noticed this about a couple of months back so cleaned it all up but noticed it again this week, what is it? Any ideas guys?

Someone told me if you get them to spray WD40 round the engine bay they don't like that & ****** off,
They can cause so much damage by eating your wiring etc...

Your kidding right? Rats living in engines? *** whatever next!!

Where do i start? Just spray WD40 all over the engine?

Yeah awesome did find a rabbit hiding in the engine bay, lol.

Ive just sprayed the engine area with WD40, especially the area where the droppings where. Also places a couple of trays of poison around. I still cant believe it, i hate rats! Just the thought of them crawling over my leather seats..i cant bear it, the dirty rodents!!..... I feel sick..

Do you live in a field or sumet? Never known rats to nest etc in cars, especially cars used on a regular bases.

No not really mate, Im scratching my head as well

This can happen m8 my dad had a rats nest living in the engine bay of his jag and they ate through part of the wiring loom, f**king nightmare cost a fortune to repair. Give the engine a steam clean

Go for a thrash and get the turbo hot and hope its sat on the manifold

Lol like it,
Yeah ive heard of it, wouldn't you camp out in one if you were cold. Flush them out if they ent paying rent.
They wont get in to the cabin area wouldn't of thought.

Hopefully the poison and WD40 will sort it. If not where would you recommend i get a steam clean? Also i heard steam cleaning is bad for the engine, is that true?

not true just make sure u cover any fuse boxes or air filters up with a bag or cling film. most of these big car wash places do it.

Problem with the poison is that if they do die somewhere you can't see them you'll have a right mission trying to find the dead rat when the smell comes through the AC!

I was just about to say dont put poison in the smell will be evil when it die's in the engine bay

Might seem a silly question but have you actually had all the plastic engine covers off and had a search around for your furry friend?

yes searched for a good 20 mins with all covers off.

I see your point. I've taken the poison out now :) I can just see this being a mission. I think jacks suggestion of a steam clean seems to be the best way to go about it..

Theres a rat in my engine what am i gunna do, theres a rat in my engine what am i gunna do....oh hold on....its kitchen isnt it :)

A mate recently had furry invaders in her T- sport. The little buggers did quite a number on some wiring. they even ate through her rear seatbelts!! Turned out they nesting in the box iron of the chassis. Cant remember how she ousted them, ill ask tomorrow if you like?

Yes please. Any suggestions on how to get rid would be helpful.

Right, she said she set traps in the boot and blocked up the access holes but she thinks it just left on its own accord. Although the suggestion of using a jack russel dog or similar to hunt it out can work, apparently they go mental for them!! Sorry couldnt be more helpful

This problem of rodent damage under engine bays is much more common than you would think, I've seen it loads of times, little ******** chew away at all sorts of bits but they seem to like wiring looms the most. In central euorpe Audi will fit a bit of kit that will electricute (sp) the little bugers on entry to the vehicle, I don't know much about the system apart from it was never an option in this country.

Ewan.

hmm im gonna get my yorkie to have a sniff around my car now just to be safe

wire wool and peppermint oil. they hate that.

Thanks. I think the WD40 may have done the trick. It may be that a mouse/rat has come across the few drops of engine oil from a little over spill on the drive way and has led it up the engine to the oil cap. I've heard they do get attracted to oil too.

I hope this is the case and that its not nesting in there somewhere. :(

Nice one dude, hope it is sorted for you.

i remember not that long a go at work a plumber rolled in about to the job and we could here a meow coming from his van, he opened the bonnet and a cat shot outta the engine bay! He had just driven about 15miles to the job! the only thing he said was "oh yeah, that'll explain the cat noise at the yard this morning!" counldnt believe it!
