I dont have any to hand, but there are members on here that I am referring to who may help, note I said may as they maybe busy, so try asking Khufu & N8 for a start as they have there's fitted, I can also see if my dealer can give me a copy of my invoices, but as I have a newborn kid this wont be instant you understand.

Also remove your email address mate as its a public forum & use PM's if you have to contact another member.

I just read this topic and it gives me new hope ;)

I am trying to swap cluster to my Golf5 2006.
I have now midline MFA: http://tos.pp.fi/images/golf/DSC00161.jpg

And the new cluster: full screen MFA/highline cluster from July 2007.
The mileage was less than 40 kilometers... and Fuel gauge works

I went to VW service at last week and they tried to swap it. It took about 30minutes.
VAS shows there is some weird error in connection between ECU and immo/cluster.

Did they do something wrong?
They said everything same as before was written here ;) "impossible swap" etc..
And the best of: "It is probably from Spanish car because the language was Spanish"

And also VAS stop working when it saw my retrofitted RNS510.
Should I change the original radio back ?

I will go to another VW service at 28.9.
What should I tell them ;) ?

and btw; sorry about my bad English ;)

Hey, your English is better than my finnish.

I've not had any experience changing the clusters on a golf so it might be different. As both car are Mk5 I would have also though they would have worked

Have you tried looking for info from here?

uk-mkivs

Unless you post things like old cluster part number & new then we cant really help that much & its a golf, ask VRStu on here as he's got more info on them iirc.

I know, it is golf...
I just hope that someone knows this VAS error, the swap procedure should be same as A3
;)
Old cluster: Part No SW: 1K0 920 863 B
And "new": 1K0 920 874 B

Looking at the info we have here - Login

I guess you have the correct cluster, albeit in KM's and not MPH like the ones we are talking about.

1K0920863B is a 260 KMH TDi Cluster with Highline
1K0920874B is a 260 KMH TDi Cluster without Highline

The clusters can be adapted with VCDS so long as you have the SKC's if not then you need the Dealer tool VAS or someone with a suitable tool to extract the SKC.

I can't imagine that the RNS510 would be causing you an issue to be honest.

Dealers are not overly conversant with these type of exchanges, you have to remember that they aren't trained in retrofits and unless they specifically know differently will nearly always tell you it can't be done because either that's what they believe or they don't want to get involved.

There you have it, exactly as I thought tbh, but he's more into Golfs than me, but spot on with dealers, they havnt a clue when comes to these things to the point I'm usually in my dealers when doing work on my car, which is usually minimal, but they're a nice bunch of blokes tbh & they do know more on many things than me, so I learn from them & they pick up some small things from my mods.

I see no issues why they couldnt do this, except down to experience in the actual job requested on your car, my dealer had issues doing my clusters until I pointed at some options within VAS, it was actually getting the current VIN onto the new cluster of the ecu, they actually kept putting the used facelift cluster existing VIN into my ecu thus not working, but they've done twice now so know it works.

I think that I have the SKC from the old cluster.

In my case they tried adapt VIN from ECU to cluster, but some connection error happens.

I hope that they could swap it right at next time.
I have the latest original VCDS, but I dont have SKC from "new" cluster.

Thanks for helping.

edit:
I have the Chinese VCC, and it can't extract SKC:

Chinese copies are waste of money.

I will try the vw service at first...

Could the locksmith do it?
They are advertising the key programing to for a brand new cars.

Right,
I have had my nice white cluster fitted today . Cheers Nige for the recommendations :)

It is all in and immo coded etc. But I have the following error lights now. Abs light, traction control light and the red one with an exclamation mark in it.

Vcds shows no errors , and all the abs/traction control is working fine.

@ Nige, Stuart mentioned you had this issue also and knew how to fix it :)

Oh, and I must say, white cluster is sex wee :)

Do you want my address for the beers now scottie or later & I hope you were very polite with stu. :) :p

Yes I know how to fix that fault, cost yer.....................

I was the most politest boy in the world. I said please and thankyou and didnt letch at one of the female staff at all

I was Even polite after sitting there waiting for 4 hours and then seeing the bill :faint:

I didn't want to cause a fuss. You have worked hard to get a rep with them, and they know I know you, so didn't want to spoil it.

The time did include them fitting my stalk for me aswell though.

You ****, lmfao you didnt mention that, now all becomes clear lol, stalk on means wheel, airbag, trims etc all of.

Plus my commission, :p

Tbh though, I still think it was worth paying to get the cluster in and coded.

Gone from no dis to nice white dis .

Now all I need to do is get rid of the rogue lights..............oh and mileage adjustment, but thats another day's job.

Tell me about it. I had it all off last night , when I tried to fit the stalk myself. I got all the above off and failed at getting the stalk off the column. Didn't want to break it, so I put it all back together and went inside in a huff.

wow, so no dis before! Nice jump :) I usually have mine on digital speedo, because I can LOL

My son loves it on the digital speedo. I cant blag him when that is on :(

No son, I aint speeding, it is because you are looking at the dial from a funny angle, it just appears I am.

Feck, you got all this to come Nige!

Coolio, as I was gonna have words with them about the 3.5 hours, but overall I'd say was fair, as I assume they put everything back as new.

So now we're past this cluster fit, where's these beers lmfao.

Oh & if you want to know how to fix the lights, scroll to top of the thread.

Good luck for all..

Im going to VW service at next Tuesday...
And I am afraid.

They cant do it ;S
I just cant believe it.

Yes they did Nige.

Tbh, I must say they were great. Stuart is a nice guy and they kept bringing me coffee all the time, and let me watch what I wanted to on the tele.

I just wish they were closer, because I would use them all the time if they were.
