Hi guys, Just wondered if there are any problems that the A4 is prone to having? Rust, Suspension, Electronics, Engine issues, That sort of thing?

Cheers, Bill.

most comon fault, is the front wiper mechanism siezes up, arounf £60 for a new one from audi

engine wise, the 1.8 Turbos suffer from oil sludge, blocking the oil pick up, causing oil starvation to the top of the engine, resulting in knackerd engine, but as long as the car has been well serviced it should be ok

don't get me started on 2.5 v6 tdi engine problems!

The left hand glove box hinges breaking & the centre arm rest lid catch snapping are 2 more common faults..

Water getting into the control module in the front passenger footwell mine cost over £500 to get sorted.

Wheel arch liners rubbing on the inside of the archs and causing rust.

ive got a 2.5 v6 tdi engine on an 02 , had it 6 years now, done around 60,000 after having bought it on 60,000 so 120,000 in all. On the engine, i've had alternator and injection pump go on me in that time and I had the cambelt done on 75000. I'd say that is quite reasonable for a 8 year old car now. Still driving and pulling like the day I bought it. Obviously, any car that has not been properly maintained, and regularly serviced will give you big problems in the long run, but as long as you get a fully serviced one with history, and then give it new oil and filter every say 6000 miles, with fuel filter every 12000, and pollen filter every 18000 miles, I cannot see you having too much problems with this engine.

the wiring loom between the door and the door piller drivers side front breaks and your windows , central locking and other stuff stops working. new loom from TPS costs 73 quid and is a gift to fit..

The rear washer pipe can split behind the tailgate trim and corrode the wiper motor.

Like that is it?

They can be fragile, I all of all people know that! But if you want one, do your research and don't let that put you off.

Great Cars though.

Open another thread asking about the good points. lol :)

2.0 tdis..... the chain drive system that drives the oil pump and balance shafts in the bottom of the engine eats itself and rattles like ****....
over 1000 in parts alone to fix. as you get a whole new unit and have to replace the chain and tensioner with three gears insted!

you know vauxhall make nice cars nower days!? looool

Cheers for the replies guys, I expect i will go for the S4 anyway when the Supra goes.

you will enjoy any audi you buy mate they really do drive like no othere car

The S4 has a timing chain, and I think its an engine out job to change it, I've no idea of change intervals sadly. And I think some of them can rattle a bit when you first start them up.

Apart from coilpacks I've never really heard of any other problems with them.

If you're serious on an S4 then check out RS246.com or AudiSRS for some great buying advice.
