S3 8p3 heated front windscreen?

Is ford only with heated front screens

As far as I know Ford have the patent, or whatever it is to heated front screens. When that runs out its fair game. That's what I heard once anyway, could be wrong.

My 07 Passat has a heated screen and memory seats, both Brilliant features, but both no longer available (except on R36). Hopefully Audi will include these features on A3s one day

Ford group does have the patent on heated windscreens. That's why they are seen on Range Rovers and on Jags when they were under Ford ownership.

Mini Coopers and Passats never had them. I think you are getting confused with the button on the climate that changes the heater settings to defrost the front screen. They never had the heating elements in the windscreen itself like the ford ones...

I always thought the thing about Ford having the patent was true.

I think its strange other manufacturers dont do it because they work brilliantly on the Focus i once had, no de icing in the winter and no steaming up! Suppose Fords patent is very comprehensive!

Ford have done it for years, I once had a 1988 Orion Ghia that had one. The fact i have to scrape ice off a so called premium branded car 22 years later annoys me!!

I thought I saw an option on the can gateway or cental electronics module for selecting heated windscreen and I assumed it was for model that shared the same module, I guess im just loosing it LOL

don't patents only last 25 years? i'm guessing that means it won't be long before they're commonly seen

Just that a dealer told me that a S3 I looked at bad it and to me it looked like the heating system. I googled it and it came up with s3 for sale that says it's got heated front screen but I guess it's wrong lol

As I said, my 07 Passat has an electrically heated windscreen with a switch on the dashboard and the wires in the screen and the frost gone in 20 seconds.

And also as I said the R36 Passats still have them now as a £145 option

erm i had a cooper s and it definatly has a heated windscreen! cause mine smashed and when it was replaced they put a **** quality one in that showed all the zig zags when it was demisting...

there is only the fan heated screens that ive seen so far tbh not seen element ones, always wondered why not tbh

The Ford patent for their heated front screen expired a number of years back. It's been availbale on VWs since about 2005, also on MINI and some other manufacturers. It is no longer exclusive to Ford Group cars.

I've had a few cars with it, and to be honest if your heaters are good then a heated front screen is no quicker to clear your screen than heaters, and they do break up after a few years leaving you with annoying strips of mist on the bits they dont clear.

exactly, thanks for taking your time to explain for me haha!

You're most welcome sir. It winds me up when people post about things that they "think" they know.

Hows the buckets?? Got a re-trim for the silver inserts planned, or are you staying with the black?

I have just found out that Skoda Yetis have a heated windscreen as an option, So why not A3s??

we have a vw passant in work right now with a heated front screen so yeah they do have them and i have also seen mini's with them too

I was wondering about this too, as I see my A4 SE's manual mentions that some models have heated screen.

If it is heated I presume you can still see the elements when looking closely? (as I could on my old 93 Escort). Can't see any elements so am guessing mine hasn't, unless they're too fine to see with naked eye now?

I had one in my mum's Focus when I was learning to drive - you wouldn't believe how useful they are. Standing outside for 20mins scraping ice off a windscreen and then having to wait for the condensation to clear as well is just no use.

you can always see the heating element on the front heated windscreens when they are there.
had it in my previous Focus and i loved it! also had remote engine start installed on the car so in the cold snowy winter days i would turn on the engine and the car would be totally defrosted with a nice warm interior and warm leathers without me having to leave the bedroom!
it is a shame that Audi don' t offer this on our A3's... do you guys think it could be retrofitted in as an aftermarket option? main problem would obviously be the actual glass but im thinking if the other bits could be retrofitted to the car?

Back when i was a student a few years ago i took a ride with my mentor in his (old pre2000 mondeo) and it had the heated windscreen.

Problem is the wires are very tiny but once you see them, you will always "see them". Not for me

I believe its an offence to leave a car running with nobody in it (or so I was told by a policeman once LOL) so perhaps this is why Audi dont offer it.

Surely a film with element in in could be fitted, like the stuff used for window tints. You would need to try hide the wires in behind the dash though.

the heated windows do not need to be left with the engine running... just sit inside for 5 minutes while it melts off the ice... no need to go around for 20 mins scraping it...

what i had on my previous focus was something else! car was locked, alarm still armed, but engine running nicely warming up... oh and no one could drive off with it as the keys were still in my bed room and it had a pin code start thing :)

hi, i know this is an old post ,But my A4 avant 2002 had a heated front screen as factory option,Brilliant in the winter.

Did the s3 come with a heated front windscreen as standard or was it a cost option ( as I can't find anything in the brochure )
I had a very high spec A4 b6 a few years ago and it had a heated front screen, I have been trying to find one for my A3 8P also , but no luck, I even looked on ETKA but it doesn’t show.
