Hi All

Picked the new S3 up on the 1st Sept, was a disaster on the day as funds did not clear until 4pm, so was sat in the dealers from 8.30, so was seething by the time I could drive it away, put a dampener on the day really. But hey!

But, once in the car and driving it was a nice place to be, I had a brand new 08 plater when they came out, but this just seemed nicer.

Also the DSG box, really pleased with that, as I had never driven one before taking delivery, a bit of a gamble I know, but wanted the element of surprise! Defo the right choice tho, only problem is now though, I could never go back to changing gears with one of those gear stick things!!

Performance wise, everything i expected, the car was taken to AVP in Burton the next day, was going to have all the works done on my signature, but didn't have time, so just ended up with the Miltek Turbo Back, the HPFP and the lowering springs/spacers. Ben at AVP said that the MY11 ECU's are locked so he couldn’t do the map on the same day, there is a box that is required from REVO which he didn’t have time to get - so that will be done in the next few weeks - However, the exhaust and HPFP have made quite a difference in performance, probably running at around 300bhp now, and this will go to about 360 when all is done.

Its a shocker on the fuel consumption, forgot how BAD these things are, seen to spend half my time at Shell.

Oh, and it is booked in at Audi on Wednesday for minor issues, there is something lose in the dash that is clunking around, and the steering wheel isn’t straight, was miles out when I picked up, and the 4 wheel alignment has improved slightly, but still not right - so disappointed on that front really.

So overall pleased with the car – I will post some pics when I work out how to do it!!

Cheers:thumbsup:
Lee

Nice one Lee, glad to hear it was worth the wait, look forward to seeing some pics!

Fuel consumption wise - mine seems to have loosened up now but was averaging below 20mpg for the first 2 or 3 tanks. Did you manage much driving in the few hours it was standard as a comparison?

To be honest I have been driving like a fairy for the last few days just to save some fuel, I'll treat myself to a ragging every few days, I know that defeats the object of owning a fast car but needs must.

Its averaging about 28 on a senible run, and about 18 on a thrashing. So not to bad i suppose, but I have been used to a 140bhp TDI for 2 years!!

Also how do you get photos on here? - any guidance please?

Is this true about the MY11 ECUs being locked - can anyone confirm ?

I've got my MY11 S3 booked in for a week on Saturday to get the GIAC re-map done,

I knew the B8 ecus were locked, but this is the first that I'd heard the 8P ones were as well.

Yaks

Hi Yaks, yeah the MY11 ECU is defo locked, i'd check to see if they have the hardware to unlock before going. You can get it done at REVO but you have to go to their headquaters in Daventry

I want to try a DSG box never driven one...although I prefer my old school ****, at Crail the instant shift times of a mk6 GTI DSG really showed how much time you waste changing gears that could be spent accelerating!

Akash, They are really good, I find I drive in auto a lot cos im a lazy B*stard, and I do a lot of miles, but just a quick flip into sport and touch a paddle and the fun begins.

If you drive one, you WILL want one i bet!

I think there pretty much destined to be / and are becoming the way forward. The new Ferrari Cali's amazing 0-60 is mostly achieved by having DSG as its so heavy and has a good but not amazing power:weight for the acceleration it can achieve.

i want one i drove a 2.0tdi 170 the other day with dsg and i love dsg gearboxes they are so nice to drive with i bet the s3 is a little peach of a car to drive with dsg or s-tronic whichever way you want to call it lol

Yeah they are nice gearboxes, my Brother drove it, he has a Range Rover, and he said it made his gearbox look like a tractor gearbox.

range rover haha in my opinion and prob anybody who knows volkwagen make the best dsg gearboxes in the world why would they put one in the bugatti veyron if it wasn't the best lol

Iv seen your car at Avp when ben was putting spins old milltek on and it looked nice .

What induction kid did you go for ?

DSG rules!
If any manual car hopes to accelerate quicker than me from a standstill through the gears then it would have to have a 0-60 stat of about 0.5 - 1 second quicker than my car does, otherwise they can forget about it.

because VW own Bugatti? :p

erm... the "DSG" in the Veyron is made by a different company and has very little to do with the gearbox in our "Golf in a pretty frock".

that being said, i think the gearbox is a little hit and miss. in my 2.0T and in the 3.2 it's great, but in the TDI 170 it's jerky and not very nice. it's also not the greatest in stop start traffic. however, it is most certainly the best of both worlds and i'll never go back to a manual now.

Yes my tuner friend has also confirmed latest ecu's are locked.

This slightly concerns me! I just had my 60 plate S3 done with revo stage 1 - it certinaly feels quicker but let hope thats not psycological and i've just been swindled!

:ohmy::crying: ****** !!!!!

Lee, what is this "box" that your garage is waiting for ? Is this where they remove the ECU and upgrade it "on the bench" ?

I've heard that this breaks security bolt seals around the ECU so that Audi would know the ECU had been removed, which could make any warranty claim more tricky.

Also, where the OBD port can be used then you can reset to stock before it goes in for a service using the GIAC hand-held controlller ( not sure if Revo have similar ) - this obviously wouldn't be an option if it has to be done "on the bench".

Anyone want to swap a MY10 for a MY11 :w00t: - only kidding, bl**dy annoying though, the ease of upgrades was one of the main reasons for going for an S3 :banghead:

Yaks

Ben just said there is a piece of hardware that plugs into the port before the laptop, so don't think any seals will be broken.

All I know is that you have to take it to REVO headquaters in Daventry for it to be done.

Yes, there is Revo Select which allows you to reset etc, have a gander on their website mate.

Ben Williamson is just immense, did my cousin's engine rebuild with polished and ported head, guy is a ledge.

Yeah he is a good guy, and he even admits that he is obsessive about his work, which works for me - Not many like that now, most just want to take your money and run.

Very odd - mine was done at a revo dealer!

Cheers Lee, will look into that, doesn't sound nearly as bad as removing the ECU. Northampton's a bit far from Edinburgh, but at least it sounds as if it's do-able.

Thanks

Hi Mate, The induction kit didn't get done, it was going to be an Evoms which i am still going for, but the wrong one was sent, so will get him to do it along with the Revo 2+ and the DV in the next couple of weeks.

:lmfao:

The AWD will jump off quicker but I'll be reigning it in before not too long.... with my lightweight car in comparison, and puuuuurrrfect gear changes! :eyebrows:

It's a bit embarrassing when it selects the wrong gear though!! :faint:

The fuel consumption is scary TBH, as you say you end up driving too sensibly just to squeeze some value for money out of your hard earned cash. I suppose that's what happens when you squeeze so much power out of a 2L 4 cyl.

Yes he advised me this aswell, that some have contemplated heating up the ecu to get the bolts of to do a direct upgrade, but he says they're afraid of damaging the pcb's which I totally understand & yes this would no doubt fxck your warranty on that item.

Revo may have found a way round it, they are very good at this game, so wouldnt surprise me.
