AH Fab / Ebay / Forge S3/A3 FMIC installs (image heavy)

chaps just a thought that will bring the costs down slightly..... any danger in fitting the hot side out with 51mm seeing as its going to the pancake and most of the run behind the rad wil be out of the cold air......ive just spotted a 45 degree 63mm/51mm reducer on the bay (didnt realise they made them)

be better for the fogs too... i dont expect it'll make that much difference will it?

What a read up... My head is sizzling, like the frying pan with my bacon in!!!

SO,let me get this straight.. I have a remaped K04,Want to go hybrid in the next 6 weeks,If i have a AH cooler, what EXACTLEY do i need to keep the fogs?? How much for the cooler, and any links would be fantiastic...

A rather lame,and hungover,

Pete....

Pete, IIRC £250 cash for the cooler plus delivery..... pipework needs to be 51mm if i rem right, and will cost around the £100 - use MrSilicone off ebay (he's a right fitty) as he will do 4 ply hoses when most ebay stuff is 3 ply and not as good quality

ive literally just walked i after fittin a custom one on the A3..... backs killing, hands are killin..... get plenty of beers in!! just dont drink them whilst ya doin it!! (this time)

Timotei... Quite fancy this, and to make it even better, been offerd a GT28 at a sta-uuupid price this morning that i may go for insted of the hybrid...

God i got out of cossies for hassle free driving, but its looking like ive curled me knees up and bombed in at the ****** deep end again!!!!

Pete..

use MrSilicone off ebay
Take note of this seller's feedback.... I didn't and experienced 4 "errors" - cheaper item sent instead - in my 3 orders with MrSilicone (and AutoPerformance who are the same people). I ended up having to claim back through PayPal as they just ignored all attempts to contact them until a claim was raised and then still failed to honour their refund agreement. PayPal make you return the incorrect item the (insert suitable word here) send so you are out of pocket.

Back to the matter in hand though, just order the clips and hoses suggested in the first thread (I recommend replacing the map sensor hose as well which is down as optional) and your fogs will remain once the AH Fabs cooler is fitted.

Looking good mate, well done.

Have to keep the missus happy hey???

i will see what to weld onto the existing one this weekend, then the info can go to alex at ah fabs if its proven to be viable.. which we think it is. no joiners, 60mm bend onto core itself kinda stylee

Bill that would be great. if the specs could be given to alex then maybe we could get an intercooler with 60mm outlets ready to be fitted if requested in the future.

it definately interests me!

Would this FMIC be ok for a S3.

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Nathan

Looks a bit on the small side if I was honest but cheap enough to give it a go I suppose... fitment is alway an issue with S3's as the bumper doesn't allow for much without compromising the fogs...

I am going to do a write up the mods and my thoughts on the changes I made to my AH Fabs cooler when I get a spare 5 mins over the next couple of days....

s3 gaz on here has just fitted this one, he has kept the smic,s too and loves it

I can see how it would be ok if keeping the SMIC's... chances are it would be a little better than the SMIC's but not enough surface area IMO to be used on its own...

<tuffty/>

anyone brave enough to do, or done this???
pic1.jpg

it would answer all those who are convinced a large cooler isnt efficient on the s3.

i actually think it doesnt look all that bad, its a very neat job of it thats for sure, only down side would be reg on the side.

Would rather run water meth......

I thought about doing that but i dont think it suits the S3 tbf.

super efficient great on a track car, but does not suit the daily driver imo

Do you think it would be better and more efficient to run the FMIC similar to Dave's with the drivers side SMIC then removing the passenger one and place a cold air feed in it to. The pressure drop shouldn't be so big then should it?

Nathan

I think this was done ages ago by eesthreee in the testing threads?
I know i got the user name wrong but he deffo did that

Ye I know but he uses a IC bigger than the one I linked in my previous thread. Just want to see if using the IC I linked would lower my AIT's enough without much pressure drop with it connected to the drivers side IC.

Nathan

Glen used a Forge SMIC made for a Golf and a custom FMIC that had different pipework and a thinner core than the forge iirc...

<tuffty/>

yup im sure it was smaller than the Forge item, the debate is, is the extra capacity of a single FMIC more efficient than the extra obstruction of an SMIC when coupled with a low volume FMIC........ i dont think we'll ever get to the bottom of this without someone breaking their back

Glens does look quite skinny, wasnt he running quite high boost too.

I would like to run a smaller IC which gets a lot air flow to it coupled with the drivers side cooler and air feed to the filter.

I think I may try it and do some AIT, duty cycle and boost logs.

Nathan

why not try with and without the SMIC......now that would be interesting with a low volume FMIC standalone especially if it does the job!!

I know you are a very busy man, but I just wondered if you have had a chance to do this yet?

This is to hopefully help out people trying to fit the Toyosport intercooler.

before you start make sure you got everything in this photo
1.jpg

start by taking the impact bar off to mount in the cooler, this how i did mine
2.jpg

3.jpg

once you have put the brackets on to the impact bar you can now attached the intercooler onto the brackets
4.jpg

you will need to drill a hole in the pastic cover infront of the arch liner, i used a 72mm hole saw
5.jpg

next put the 180degree and the 90 degree pipes together like this
6.jpg

attch the end on the 180 degree pipe to the intercooler and put the other end into the arch liner
7.jpg

look into the engine bay and you will see the top of the 90degree pipe, attched the large 90 degree pipe onto the smaller 90 degree pipe
8.jpg

now find the 2 small pipes and connect them like this
9.jpg

you need to fine the silicone reducer to go from the larger 90 degree pipe to the small pipe
10.jpg

the problem i had was the toe eye was in the way, only way around this is to get a custom pipe or cut it off, so i just cut it off
11.jpg

at this point you should only have 2 pipe left, connect them like this
12.jpg

attach one end to the intercooler and the other to the throttle body
13.jpg

should look like this from inside the engine bay
14.jpg

and like this from outside the car

If these are a popular IC then we will add this to the IC sticky thread

This seems easyer to fit than the others, no need to cut the impact bar.

Any pics with the bumper on???

same kit i bought, so much easier than the other kits as you dont have to fit your own n75 take off!!

Great work, considering doing this on my A3, this makes me want to even more!

Where did you get the kit from and how much?

Seconded on a request for a 'bumper on' picture, did you have to mod the bumper much?

Done but I think this thread needs trimming

I have now updated the original post to include the new v2 FMIC from AH Fabs

Well I think one of these should be on the cards now then. Cheers for doing the write up. With length do you recommed for the alloy 90oc bends?

Cheers
