I ordered a new A5 a couple of weeks ago and audi have said that the order has gone through and been confirmed but they cant give a production slot for it yet and so cant estimate delivery!! what does this mean? it could take months to make?!

Thanks

Piers

Hmm just looked at production dates released today and it dosn't look. Its saying week 5 2011 is the first availiable week for A5, but I would double check with your centre.

i really couldn't be ***** with the wait why not buy used and save some cash as well:eyebrows:

Depends how old a used car you are looking at. Buying a year old Audi doesn't make financial sense to me. If you get the right discount from a dealer on a factory order, there's not usually much in it!

A few grand is nothing to stick your nose up at if the second hand vehicle checks all the boxes AND you get it faster though!

I get what you mean but if you can find a second hand car for at least, say, £3-5k less than what the dealer can offer... with good mileage (anything south of 8k?) and at the spec you're after, then does it matter that it's a year old?

Of course, you have to take time into consideration. Could spend months looking for that perfect used vehicle... by which point you might as well have been on a factory waiting list I guess :)

Each to their own!

and what does week 5 in 2011 mean? the 5th week into 2011? ha
thats long!!! :crying:

i did look into second hand but couldnt find the one i wanted so thought should just order..and the dealership gave me a 9% discount so... suppose just going to have to wait now!!
if it comes in jan 2011 doesnt that mean i have to pay the new higher tax?

A few guys were talking about this in another thread - ask your dealer, they should be able to secure the current price for you (and doubt they will quarrel if you dangle the possibility of cancelling in front of them!).

Problem is, if week 5 (first week of February) 2011 is the production date, it will take a few more weeks to get finished up, shipped, and be cleared at your dealers' place >.<

Piers

As has already been said, if you ordered in August and it comes after Jan 3rd, you'll have to pay the extra 2.5%. :(

As for lead times, its not just the black's with stupidly long ones. I ordered my A3 Cab Sport on July 12th and two months later I still haven't got a build date. I was told delivery will probably be into 2011.

I have two friends with Audis on order (A3 Sportback Sport and a Q5 - both ordered April) Sportback has been put back 3 times and Q5 is now due March '11 at the earliest !!

As for buying used, I couldn’t buy a used one for anywhere near the price I got my new factory order one for! Just have to stomach the crappy waiting time L

And thats why when I ordered my new one, the dealer couldn't wait to get mine from me and move it on, my BE sold in less than a week for £1500 less than I paid one year and 24k earlier......

Roswell / Piers90 , couldn't agree more . Before placing a new build order i also toyed with the idea of a 'nearly new' , but the prices were stupidly high . Some of the 3-6 month old's were more expensive than new and for a lesser spec . Audi's just don't seem to suffer that big initial drop that other manufacturers do from new . The down side is - the wait ! When will Audi sort this out ? How many lost orders must they suffer ? I too am waiting for a date , having been initially told November - i really hope this is still the case .

you're not buying a ferrari so that kind of wait is unacceptable.

just buy another brand. new e-class coupe? 3 series coupe? all recently refreshed too

A Ferrari wait would be over a year man, lol, like the S5 queue is crazy long at the moment - my buddy was on wait for like 12 months for his (ordered in 2008 received 2009). The higher quality the car (or more exclusive) the longer it takes =/

You want a Ferrari and (unless you're a Sheikh and... you know... own half the factory :p) you're looking at a long *** queue (24-36 months... maybe more!).

im considering canceling my order and looking at an e-class coupe...but i prefer audi tbh... went and had a test drive in the merc and seem to feel better being in an audi!! :$
still weighing up my options!!

Just go for the BM 3 series Coupe, the 330d and 335d are just superb. "Better to drive than an A5"...hey, i just wrote a slogan :)

really not a fan of BMW's... i get really bored of the interior. its so boring to sit in. lol.. i think im going to wait for the A5... :-D

I was in VW today (my daughter test drove a golf) , the dealer told me that VW have a price guarantee, and any order made before the end of Sept will be fixed even if the delivery is in 2011 . They will cover the Vat increase....Now why is Audi not doing the same!!!

I'd still be very surprised if the dealer would let you pull out without forking out the extra 2.5% themselves first - though it all depends who you're talking to.

Might also find that if you've got 9/10% off already from the dealer then they can't go any further - which might explain it musicegbdf... if VW are only prepared to go to say 5% then you're still getting more discount with Audi.

Never simple eh =/

That is true , but then they were only giving 10 weeks for factory order . so maybe they can be more confident.
The other thing is how do dealers make "stock" orders.. It might be that he will be happy for the order to be canceled , and he leaves it as a stock order which he can then sell with no discount at all. As seen nearly new seem to be a higher price than new !

I do however think if they have given you a build week (I was indicated at week 39 and now have confirmed week 46 ) that is within 2010 they should honour the VAT if they drop back.

It is crazy though for a manufacturer to have such a poor schedule to get their products to market. They must be losing orders to other brands. The good news if you do wait is you have a strong residual.
