i know..another red 2.8q!!
this is my 97' 2.8q,its done 175k and to be honest drives like its done 275k!
after my mrs said that its only fit for the scrappie:mad:,i now intend to totally neglect her and spend all my spare time making the 2.8q something special.;)
how it looked at the start..

it will be fully stripped out,lightweight and caged.to start with will just be tweaking the v6; decats s/s exhaust and maybe a remap,but as funds allow will be putting a 4.2 v8 from an a8.
here are a few pics of what ive done so far;

gave the top end of engine an overhaul,breathers,inlet manifold vacumn pipes etc.
got a set of 18" brio 6 alloys,in desperate need of some tlc,this is the result of the first one.am undecided on the colour though,any thoughts?

theres alot to do!!but will keep posting the updates
:sm4:

I like the alloys colour! esp if you follow through with the front grill etc. Get a darkened theme going maybe!

You are planning lots and the 4.2 will be fantastic, love that engine!

Keep us posted!

Nooiiccee!!! Bestest colour, good choice and taste! ha

Personally ive never been a fan of black wheels, but certain cars can pull it off, red is one. As Sarah said, tie more bits in with it and it'll look the part!

When you removed the weatherstrips on the bottom of the doors, have you removed the pins yet or are they still there? This is my next job and wanna see wots involved first, need it done so i can get the car in for paint and fit the kit.

i change my mind all the time about colour of rims,satin black,gloss white,after a few beers i even consider gold or bronze!!they arent on the car yet,just waiting to sort the ride height out.fitted some spax -35mm springs as a temporary measure(99p ebay bargain!!)but its not low enough,so am just waiting till the mrs doesnt know whats in the bank account,and some coilovers will be en' route!!
foxmeister,the lower trims were removed by undoing a single phillips screw on the front/inside of the door,once removed the trim can be slid off(forwards,i think)
the remaining plastic clips can now be prised.some of the pins sheared off doing this,and the remainder were ground off.the ones that sheared off left a small hole,so had to remove the door cards,and put a small weld on the inside,so that i had something to fill up to.have just primed and touched up the repairs for now,theres along way to go before its at the paint shop!!

Cheers mate, know the points to remove them, just wondered wot the aftermath is like when removing the pins. Hopefully i dont need to weld them, not got a welder!

Will probably give it a bash this weekend if i find the time.

Seen a few cars on matt bronze wheels now, mostly jap but must admit ive been tempted, i think you should go for it, ballsy descision but could be the next thing for A4's! Keep us posted mate!

maybe welding was o.t.t.,you could just fibreglass the holes if the pins shear off.all you need is something to fill up against.if you retain all pins,just grind them off,leaving enough metal to fill up to.hope all goes well at the weekend mate.

only a few updates so far,been trying to clear some room and get rid of the unwanted 'luxuries'!!
cant decide on wheel colour,tried satin black first,but think a silver/grey look is tempting,let me know what you think;
a random tester!!

I like your style mate, same as myself, get told no from the mrs but end up with carbon, dash pieces, vents etc in the kitchen drying out usually! Ha ha.

Must say, wheels look a lot better in the dark silver now!

My wkend is t*ts up as usual, working all day sat then babysitting at nite, Sun helping bro with move so no Audi love again this wkend! DOH!

Keep the updates coming mate, giving me inspiration to get on with mine!

theres nothing better than abit of oil and some plastic trim in the plug hole to keep your mrs happy!!the wheels were only roughly prepped but there will be a black undercoat,with a met silver/grey finish on top.
keep the updates coming?its just trial and error,what i can get cheap off the net or adapt/make fit!got given a sticker today that just says 'hand built' my project in two words!!
pm on way re front bumper

Exactly mate, i love budget builds....way more interesting than open cheque books, plenty to learn and tips to be had!

PM replied mate.

The alloys look good but I also liked the slightly darker shade too! choices choices! lol
