Wing mirror smashed off - easy removal? Replacement wanted!

A Corsa swerved out around some stationary cars today and gave my driver's side wing mirror a real smack, smashing the glass, cracking the cover, breaking various plastic tabs off it, and breaking tabs off the main mirror body inside as well. I had no chance of turning round to follow him in the traffic, so am left with no mirror now. Not a happy bunny.

I might try ETKA to see if I can get the main mirror body individually, otherwise I'll have to scour eBay for something suitable. Is it a case of popping off the black plastic trim on the inside of the door (not the door card) and unbolting the mirror to remove it? Or does the door card need to come off?

Does anyone have a mint condition driver's side wing mirror with heated glass in Dolphin Grey by any chance? Thanks for any help.

Also door card of, as the loom has be be disconnected properly, as its fixed to the door chassis.

Hello again Mr NHN, we meet again! It's a Sportback. I've had the door card off once to replace the mirror switch, so don't mind doing it all once again. Do you think you might have what I need? I've had a better look, and the mirror plate adjustor is actually cracked as well, so I will actually need the whole unit and the glass and the cover. Let me know if you have what I need matey

I have recently done this for my passenger side mirror, had to replace the whole lot and if im honest it was a horrid job!

For the life of me I could not see how you could pull out the existing loom intact as the gaps just dont allows this so I ended up cutting the loom to remove the wing mirror and then cutting the new loom so I could feed the cable back down the inside of the door skin and then reconnecting it once it was in place.

Althought to be fair I may of missed something obvious here, but to me it seemed impossible to do it in one piece without removing the internal door skin competely????

The above worked a treat, but make sure that if you do it this way to insulate each wire when you have reconnected them to avoid any future problems! I am happy to say it worked fine and took about 1 hour in total doing it this way!

I will have straight of my SB if interested in perfect condition, colour is mauritius blue, but even new covers are only primed so painting is needed either way.

You did what, lol, sorry to laugh, but should have asked on here fella, which I'd happily advise how to get the mirror off/on with no cutting.

NHN - A Dolphin Grey one would be ideal, but depending on the price of your mirror, and what I can get my local bodyshop acquaintance to paint it for, perhaps buying yours will work out okay. Drop me a PM about it if you like. I assume it'll be a direct replacement, heated and the same glass to match the passenger side?

Maverick001 - That sounds awful, sorry you had such problems with it! I won't be chopping anything up, but it does sound a fiddle!

hahaha I know its a tad "heath robinson " but was driving me crazy trying to get the plug down the side! I did think about posting, but by this point the mirror was half off and it started to rain and i lost my temper with it lol

But just out of curiousity how do you get the plug out from behind the door skin and then up through the gap at the top and then get the new plug down behind the door skin, i looked at this for ages and couldnt see a way of doing it, maybe i was thinking about it to hard

Its of an 05 SB, has glass & wiring, so should be direct fitment, PM me if interested.

You have to unplug the wing mirror connector from the door module, this connector has 2 parts, an outer shell as such that holds the inner hosuing that has all the wires plugged into, remove the outer shell & your left with a 16 pinned connector & wires, there is a locator lug that holds the 2 connector parts together, lift this to seperate, then take photos of the connector with wires in still so you know where they all went, then remove all the wires from the connector with jewellers screwdriver, just has a raised piece of metal you have to push downwards to extract the pins.

The loom itself is fixed to the door chassis with tape round some plastic clips, now with some slowly pulling you can actually get these released from the fixings which then allows you to pull the whole loom & mirror of the door itself.

Reverse fit to install, just leaving out the fixing to the door as these are inside the door so not accessible.

Thanks! Had both my wing mirrors stolen and looking to fit replacements. Managed to get one side done but the the bolt holding the other damaged wing mirror is stripped! Gonna go look tomorrow for some screw/bolt extractors .

On a side note, taking the door cards off the A3 is the easiest ever!

If this helps anyone trying to remove stripped/rounded screws/bolts...

After ******* about all day yesterday with all manner of tools trying to get the stripped torx screw out, I only made it worse!

Bought these from Halfords, drilled a 6mm hole into the damaged screw head, hammered in one of the larger screw extractor and it unscrewed it in seconds! Halfords | Laser 6 piece Screw Extractor Set

Dremels are handy for these type of jobs, had few issues like this myself before, managed to cut shapes/holes into bolt/screw heads to get something else onto them, but yeah those ones are handy also.

Just be careful not to snap them or you'll have a hell of a time as they are nearly impossible to drill out. Use with a T-handle tap holder.
