Black Edition

Have a good look over all the panels with the life shine chap! they sometimes make a right pigs ear of it. No pictures though??

cheers will do mate hate that sort of thing as well, No pics only had a quick look because the guy had to take it for the road test will upload some tomorrow though.

Some confirmation.

Euro Law Green cars..NO chance. The Green A4 Tdi Stop start has 2 so let's bin that theory.

Twin exhausts on 170 Tdi's IS highly likely as shown on updated audi.de and audi.fr Configurators... see link posted above.

Push -Pull is the Audi UK Marketing department's language. TTBOMK Pull models attract lower discounts and are in shorter supply presumably to entice people with their rareity/exclusivity. Push models are the volume models with bigger profits that they will discount higher and have offers to move quickly. Currently A3 Sportback is a Pull (aspirational) model. Some TT models are actually Push models as they have been hard to sell (Convertible in particular)

To confirm that the 170TDI will have a single chrome tailpipe regardless of standard / quattro, i had this confirmed when placing my order.

Waiting on an A3 SB BE, Ibis White, S-Tronic, Open Sky, Full Vienna Leather, Interior Light Package, Power Folding Mirrors, Light & Rain Sensor Package, Non Smokers Pack, Badge Designation removal & PPP/Metalmate - Ordered 5th Aug Expected April 2011.

Can you give details of your contact 'cos I have contradictory advice!!!!

My contact was a sales guy called Rob at Audi Maidstone. It was one of the 1st things he pointed out to me when i was looking at the older model in the showroom.

He said the only A3 SB to have twin pipes would be the S3.

I have finally managed to take some pics of my Black edition. It was in the workshop today for PDI and I took a few quick shots. Quality not great and the car not clean, but hey you can get to see some real life pics.

Where they gone???

Oh forgot to say i also got conformation of my intermediate car today, going to be an A4 Avant, getting monday so will pic and describe then.

For MY2011 only the 170 TDi and 2.0T have the twin pipes. All the others are the new eco CR engines so have the 1 pipe. The 1.4/1.6 are all single pipe anyway.

That's different to what I have been told by my contact at Audi, but there are a few people saying the same thing as you! I'll be ****** happy if you are right :)

Mine is the 1.8t and that has twin pipe

Our MY2010 S-Line 170bhp has twin tail pipes but I am sure I have read sowewhere that they all go single for MY2011.

That pic above is a Sport, not a S-Line and is probably MY2010 or even 2009.

You can't really use the configurator to confirm anything either. According to the UK Audi configurator you can't have a TDi 170 SB Sline at all and yet we bought one???!!!! They only list upto 140bhp....

My A3 HATCHBACK 2.0 TDI 170 Quattro S Line 3dr was totalled in May by a boy racing idiot (I doubt without all the safety of the Audi we would have all walked away unscathed) and I had a choice of BMW, VW, Mercedes etc and test drove them all and it came down to a Top Spec VW Scirocco (which I really liked, but it just lacked that little extra 'feel' of quality I was used to) or another Audi A3 and guess what? I just loved that Audi too much and have ordered another!!

It has the understated muscular sporty look I like, and then add in the performance, quality, safety and a 50+MPG economy its a hard combination to look past.

Been interested to see the whole thread and thought would contribute and offer my timeline to when mine hopefully arrives in comparison to the Black Editions.

It was ordered 1st July and had a stock date of 29/10/2010 that has now been reduced to 22/10/2010.

My Order is as my signature, and as can see I have added the Bose sound system over the Pearl effect paint, which I liked but it could look a little 'cloudy' so I thought I would trade the effect for sounds...

I am hoping it is the 2 exhausts though, as it does add to overall sport effect...

mjh... sorry to hear about the accident, hope you are OK now.

Motor sounds nice, we have the 20 spokes on current Sportback but sticking with new std BE Alloys.. Looking at your spec would it not make sense financially/residuals etc to go for a BE?

Pretty convinced we will have 2 exhausts now. Cheers

Hi Ya

Yes, alls ok I am glad to say...We were near stationary and got smacked at full speed on rear drivers side by someone who did not apparently see us! All airbags came on and we were pretty protected in there with the subframe taking the real brunt of the impact. So its not all about looks and performance, safety is a factor to that I can testify to first hand.

It will be a company lease, I just selected off the list to where I was allowed to, and hence the TDi option for better tax and grade allowance. But if it was my ££ and residuals I would have 100% researched the best specification to ££ balance to death.

I really like the BE edition and the wheels, but I liked my 18in 20 spokes to, so that was one of my dilemmas, but given I had the whole range of BMW etc also, there was lots of research and test drives etc, before I ended up back with one I have previously (In my Avatar) I thought I would go BMW for a change and could have had a BMW I series 2.0 M Sport but the Audi I had and have ordered was in my opinion just better all round, the Quattro for example does really make a difference in handling...I love Audi it seems )

I did a bit of my own looking around for twin exhausts and it seems it will still have them, though I am looking forward to the 60 plates photos being placed on here in coming weeks...

took these quickly so not the best photography but shows it has twin pipes for those who wondered earlier in the thread very pleased with it looks great in person.

At present, due to the sudden demise of my previous Audi I have had inflicted upon me an Astra 1.8 SRI (If want me to list what I hate about it, just ask but it might take a while) and now, on seeing your photos Daley I have major Audi withrawal symptoms!!

It looks lovely )

What is the exact specification? Also what was order to delivery time?

Hi guys, have been lurking for a couple months but decided to sign up this morning! I ordered an A3 Hatchback BE 2.0 TDI in mid may and have a confirmed arrival date of w/c 18th Oct.

Like others on here I randomly got told yesterday that I'll be getting an A4 on the mobility programme until my A3 turns up! Happy days!

We should all take our Audi Mobility mobiles on some kind of track day! lol

Hi MJH

Nice spec your getting.. we are buying my wifes with our money and decided the £950 BE upgrade was worth it as should get back circa £500 in Residual value in 3 years (hopefully) . Have enjoyed having the 20 spokes on our current 08 motor but get absolutely ****** all back after 3 years and the new BE wheels are way nicer than the old 5 arms. The current 7 spoke RS4 style are quite nice though even if they are a bit '2006'.

Hope the new beast lands safely. I am off to dealer in my car tomorrow so will check on progress.

Cheers

I must say that Daley photos look amazing, I am quite glad at the moment I swapped the Pearl finish for the Bose Sound Pack seeing them. The wheels really stand out and really set off the BE look....I would certainly be happy with that sitting in my drive ) I also have seen the BE in white in Photos Forum, and though it sounds a contradiction it does really work as a look.

The only specification I would have really liked that have not got is the Xenon Light Pack, apart from that I have all that I would desire really...Obviously if it was a money no object I would just max out on an S3.

I think there is always an allowance for some personal preference and even some sensibility around residuals, but at the the day we will all be very happy with what we eventually drive away with, that I am sure about.

Given your comments I would likely have gone for the BE also as I tend to really research everything and more so when my own ££ and your logic is spot on and plus it looks amazing...

Mine is annoyingly 6 weeks away from in stock and I think the Astra SRi I have been given might have some Basil Fawtly violence inflicted on it in that time, particularly as I am going to see all these nice new 60 plates appearing on here in coming weeks.

Hi MJH

Phantom Black is Pearl effect isn't it???

We have Phantom on our 08 and same on 60. BE Sportback Quattro 170 (twin pipes), Tech PAck, Comfort Pack, Sorage, Open Sky.... might mean having to let the missus use my 5 a bit more often..

Sorry about the Vauxhall. Engine are OK but everything else is crap. LAst one I had caught fire at 3 months old and got all my money back and more from Vauxhall.

I have always known the colour on my 'deceased' A3 as Pearl effect, but you are right it is technically Phantom Black.

I have ordered Brilliant Black this time around and its not that I did not really like the colour, I did, but I liked the Brilliant Black also, so given that, I traded colour for the Bose this time around.

My friend has a Bose Home System, and even though my Denon Midi Home System is really good, the Bose is I think a class above so I hope that transfers to the car versions. Anyone give comments on the Audi Bose?

The Astra has all the buttons and extras and has a 'sporty' look but its noisy, a little gutless and unrefined and the interior would make Alan Sugar have refused it for his Amstrad Power Tower!! Its just so cheap and nasty...

Get your cleaning cloths out mjh. Brilliant bLack is a ****** to keep clean but looks superb when it is...but it is not as forgiving as Phantom.

The 380 Bose noise is good however try the A5 B&O (505w) awesome for £500 (about £100 or so more than A3 Bose)... or better stil the A8 £4k version"!! Bose is pretty good just a shame Audi don't put B&O in the A3. It works well in the A3, some issues in the TT and earlier model A4 but I reckon it's worth it if you like music as we do.

I did to a fro from the Brilliant, to the Phantom and the Ibis and back again, and even now I cannot really decide haha though I had to bite the bullet sometime and it was the Brilliant in the end.

Imagine it will be a little different for me than others, as she will do her fair share of miles and get pretty dirty quite regularly, so imagine it will be a once a month clean just like my previous and she will have the 'in use' look for the majority of the time.

Sounds are important to me to, hence the trade from paint effect to sound pack, and the B&O I imagine is pretty awesome but budget means its the Bose only and I am sure it will be good enough for my needs..

I have an Audi garage pretty close, and peeked in today to see the MY11 models and to be honest there is so little difference you hardly notice. I did have a little sit in an Ibis White 3 Door S3 though and it was love haha...

It just has this muscular presence but remains understated also...

I have seen a few reviews that bemoan the lower suspension, but it really adds to the look and my previous had the lowered suspension and it was a really good smooth ride unless hit a sizeable pot hole, which you should not be anyway...

22/10/10 is just too far away!!

Very conscious of staying on subject, but given there has been discussion Brilliant Vs Phantom for the BE or any model, I think this one shows what BB looks like at its best. Its lush!! (A friend recommends the Glare Polish Kit after I mentioned discussions here, though I have never personally tried it)

Cheers mate really pleased with it looks even better in the flesh, any excuse to drive and im there lol cant keep me out the thing. I do prefer the new my11 alloys think it gives it a meaner look my mate has an 59 plate BE and as you say the differences are not even noticable but mine looks that bit better :). Spec is 1.8t BE phantom black with sound pack.Personally I thought getting the BE over s-line was no brainier just for DRL's they draw some much attention (for the right reasons) and have had so many compliments on the car. As for delivery time that has been the only down fall with the purchase ordered back in march and got a temp a3 until mine came in july. The Bose is realy good sound volume can differ being played through ipod but think thats just the mp3 nothing to do with the bose.
