lowering springs

hi all just wondering im going to be ordering some lowering springs soon as i cant afford a full on coilover kit as of yet so just getting some springs ive got a sport 3 door does the kit have to be for a sport and if it does , does it lower the car by 30mm or is it less as its a sport or does it lower a standard car by 30mm only lowering my car by 15mm or 20mm or so

slightly confused with what your asking but lowering springs such as 35mm, 50mm etc are all measured from standard car height unless stated otherwise!

So any model specific lowering you have such as: sport-15mm an s-line-25mm should be taken away from the lowerage stated by the spring to give actual lowerage

e.g. S-line = 25mm so with a 50mm spring it would only lower it by a further 25mm

yeah thats what i wanted to know i was confused about it all as ive got a sport i didnt know if it was 30mm off the standard car or 30mm off my car which is lower anyway as it the sport i get it now thanks mate thats a big help

Anytime buddy so what springs you goin for? Ohh and your right to go for the springs over the coils because unless your spending big money for adjustable dampening your gonna ruin your ride comfort

well i wouldnt say the sport has much comfort lol but its not that bad but i se what you mean tho about the full hog because they will prob be even worse if not set up properly wont they , i was thinking eithr h&r or eibach springs i want to go for a go quality make as the ride would be much better but if not prob something like pi or spax not 100% sure as of yet just waiting to see a few more reviews on the different makes to see which one is best as the roads around my house are terrible any thoughts on which ones are best

I can recommend eibach springs I've had them on two cars and the comfort is improved as well as flatter cornering and improved stance.

i heard that eibach are very good its important for the comfort part of it as well as the looks of course lol eibach is up there with h&r so it will be a difficult choice i think

I have the H&R and have no regrets but I'd say the eibach will be just as good although I've no experience with them!

i've got some eibachs on mine, i like the stance and little if any compromise in comfort!

I have put eibachs 30mm on mine also.
I have an SE, so my lower was 30mm in all.
Being a SE, the ride was moon buggy style, so the ride to get harder once the eibachs were on. However, they are still reasonably comfortable, and the cornering is MUCH more precise and flat

I would DEFFO say the 50mm kit for you though buddy, as I fitted the 30mm and now wish I had gone 50mm. Mine isn't quite low enough.
I'm sure you will be the same.

to sum up :icon_thumright: to Eibach though.

Just remember to price in a alignment check if you are fitting them yourself (easy to do) . You will need adjustments to camber etc as it will change.
IIRC i paid just under £40 for this at a local STS garage.

Now get it done

Mines is lowered 50mm on Eibach's and 18's but its anything but comfortable on the roads up here. It's bearable and definitely improves the feel,look and handling but hitting a peanut feels like hitting a kerb.

I mind the first few weeks of owning my sport, Felt like I was gliding!

yeah true compared to my old rs my audi is very nice and comfortable lol esp on the motorway so dont think i would really complain about haveing harder suspension again but its defo worth it for the looks esp on 18's

If the springs quote a 30mm drop then on a Sport you'd see around a 20mm drop and on an S-Line you'd see around a 15mm drop.

Pretty sure V16's A3 is on eibach sportlines which means its lowered by 45/50mm.

fnmrst, can you hold out for a bit to buy them. There was a thread not too long a go (this week) had suggested a group buy will be in place soon. If so, count me in for a set.

It might be to hard on the standard shocks, but the way to look at it is if it does break one then put in some upgraded shocks lol save you forking out for springs and shocks all at once
