Yes, another problem with the A3! Will it ever end? :crying:

For the past few weeks, i've noticed that the car seems to start vibrating over 60mph

Usually i would think that the wheels aren't weighted properly or something, but there is absolutely no steering wheel wobble.

I've tried sticking it into neutral at 60mph, and it still does it :ermm:

So i'm really stuck on what it could be......

Any suggestions?

Would i be getting wheel wobble if the rear wheels had a problem?

poor quality tyres can do this. Also yes on my old astra convertible the rear bushings were gone which slightly altered the alignment and made the car vibrate even more

I had a similar problem, rear tyres were quite worn so got them balanced and it's fine again.

Sorry to hear of your problems Jord. As sarah said seems your car had a few problems lately.
As every one said try the tyres. My dads old 1 series was having problems like that after the car being with them for 6weeks BMW changed the tyres and the problem went.
Hope you get it sorted soon mate.

Ah man - feel sorry for you Smudge...... :3sadwalk:

Cheers Russo, i'll head down to the local tyre place tomorrow, see if the alignment/balance is out at all

If that doesn't sort it, new tyre time!

Are your bolts tight???

Ah that A3s had some problems lately!!!

Ye i always get paranoid so i check them like once a day

It never ends :(

I've only had these tyres on for about 4000miles....

i had the same problem few weeks back, it turned out to be that one of the balance weight had come off, get it balanced first, most likey its that mate,

doubtful you'd feel the rear wheels out of balance thru steering wheel. and you dont always feel it through the front. especially with power steering.

my money's on wheel balance if you've not had new tyres/brake discs recently...

Cant offer anything else that hasn't already been said except good luck Jord

As lincoln said you wouldnt feel if the back wheels are out of alignment unless you were on a straight road that is majorly majorly long enough to step the back of the car out ever so slightly.

How about the M1?

Yes but you would have to be driving in a very straight line without any correction atall. it would be miles before you even notice the back starting to want to move across of which you subconciously correct yourself. Can actually cause a major accident if its majorly out

You're not making sense....

If the rear wheels weren't balanced properly, you're saying that i wouldn't be able to feel it but i would notice the car start veering off to 1 side on a really long road?

I'm asking about a vibration that i get, that can't be from the front wheels due to no steering wheel wobble

I think i've found the source of my problem...

Was cleaning the wheels the other day, and found this on the front near side tyre:

So looks like a new tyre on that wheel.....only had em for about 4000miles :(

Surely that's down to poor fitting?

Hmm that would do it. Must have hit it pretty hard to distort it so much...?

Ouch! doesnt look good! Too many pot holes unless someones slightly caught a kerb when parking!!! If it is poor tyre fitting, take it back and see what they say! always worth a go! Good luck Jord!

Got em fitted about 4 months ago, so i doubt they'd do anything now

Taking it to them on Tuesday, see what they say

Vibrations were terrible on the M25 just now, it's terrifying

Ah maybe 4 months is a bit too long.

I know what you mean about vibrations, mine did that all the way to AITP!!! 3.5 hrs of vibrations and juddering! Awful journey there and back. Mine was a wiring issue on the front ABS sensor, wiring fixed and all sorted now phew! Hope you get it sorted Jord.

Fiat Puntos are known for having ****** threads in their hubs and when I fitted some 17's, later that day a shaky journey home I found that 2 bolts had fallen out... That was scary, lol.

Always my worst fear since i had a wheel fall off on the Corsa from a mother of a pot hole

Looking at it i would say down to pot holes and bad roads but ask someone else than the place you had them fitted opinion, would say it was anything to do with fitting though, are they a decent brand tyre? we have had problems with distorted walls with some cheaper ones but as we did that should be pretty noticable when balancing them up
