Thinking of getting rid of the "MINT" Mk4 Gti and getting the above. Spotted one a few miles away from me on an 08 plate with 60K on it. Its the sport model and is up for the princely sum of £ 10500
The only think that puts me off it is that it is only 105bhp. Anybody driven one. The performance figures suggest nearly 12 seconds to 60 which will probably be slower than the wifes 1.1 Pug 206.
Are they really that slow or do they feel faster due to the shove in the back torque ?
Any opinions appreciated
goochy

On my second one now and although I miss my Golf 2.0 GTTDI pull the 1.9 can still go some although yes it takes a little shove to get there. I enjoy my new one due to the 63MPG average on my daily 130 mile round trip commute...

get a 140 bhp if you dont you will kick yourself later

Horses for courses really mate. Have driven one and it was noticably slower than the 2.0 tdi, but, I always reckon you get used to what you have got anyway! As has already been mentioned, the 1.9 has 20% better fuel economy so worth factoring that in IMO.

The 1.9 105 is a PD engine and the 2.0 is a common rail. The PD sounds very agricultural but emits less than 120g/km of co2 so lower taxes and has better fuel economy.

they both have good points and bad points the 1.9tdi is good on fuel and low tax but is a bit noisey the 2.0tdi is fast and makes less noise but isnt too bad on tax i think £120 ish per year

some really good points on here so far.

i bought my 140 back in march, but test drove the 1.9 (105) before this.

as someone said, there is a noticable difference in power between the 2, but then after a while that is forgotten as you get used to what you're driving, and now i'm graving more power!!

the biggestes difference is, as suggested above, the fuel economy and the tax. i just paid £125 for full years road tax and average around 40mpg on a town run, and obviously the 1.9 would be better than that in both areas.

i'd still take my 140 over both 1.9 and the 170 as a happy medium between the 2, and there's always a re-map if you do crave more!

i gues you'll need to decide what's more important.... fuel economy or power!!!

I have run many 1.9's for my company car whilst working at Audi. I cheekely had them mapped when i had them, and they were noticably quicker than 2.0 140's. I absoloutely loved them and would probably have one over the 140 as the road tax is £35 a year from what i remember!

Wow

Thanks for all the replies guys
I have finally managed to find a good one.
Spec is
1.9 tdi (105) on an 07 plate. Its a sport model with the following factory extras
1/2 leather alcantara seats
In Dash 6 CD Changer - Audi Symphony
GSM Bluetooth and cradle which is in the arm rest
Automatic headlights
Anti Dazzle rear view mirror
Parking Sensors
Electric Folding Mirrors
The later model wheels
MFSW

I think it also had auto wipers but not sure at the moment - Picking it up Satruday

The bad points were a couple of scuffs on the alloys, and 2 scratches on the doors, which the dealer said they would paint and buff over.
1 owner from new (Lease company) and full service history. They are going to do a service before I get it.
MOT till may next year and they are sticking 6 months tax on it. I did push them for 2 new tyres but they were having none of it.

Whats the difference then between SE and S-Line seats? Ithought they were both half leather/alcantara. Call my ignorant but as far as I can see they just appear to be missing the embossed S-Line logo at the top of the of the seat.

Yeah i just looked at some photos of Sline and SE and that is all i can see is the difference aswell...

Same as the seats in my Sport too, however mine are light grey leather/alcantera.

Yeah I think they are the same as the SLine seats without the embossing.
Dealer said that they did not come as standard on the sport model and were factory extra

1. yes it does have auto lights and wipers, tho now you own the car you can probably tell that yourself

2. Sport seats were an optional extra on standard an SE models, and were standard equipment on Sport and S-Line models. the only difference is S-Line is at least half leather, whereas the Sport seats can come in cloth. Not all S-Line seats are embossed. there seems to be a period where some were and some weren't and it was a bit random. i think nowadays all S-Line seats are embossed. mine certainly are :D

therefore this car has Sports seats (standard equipment for the model) but half leather which was a ~£600 optional extra i believe.

congrats Andy... hope you're happy with your purchase! what plans do you have for it?

thanks Sub39h

I downloaded the Audi price list last night and seen that the 1/2 leather alcantara was aroudn 6 to 7 hundred quid more. As well as every other option that I listed. The owner of it must have blew 3 grand on options.

Not got my hands on the car yet so I cant tell if it had auto wipers or not. I cant even remember if it had the buttons where you can change all of the settings for the auto lights etc.

Very excited and cant wait to play with the toys. We have Ipods in both our current cars, but the audi doesnt, so I even have a couple of CD's burnt for the journey home from Hudderfield. The stereo did sound leagues ahead of my Mk5 Golfs though.

A 1.9TDi can be remapped to the standard output of a 2.0TDi (140), both in terms of Torque and Power, however because the 1.9 has a smaller turbo it spools up quicker and feels more petrol like to drive. That way you'd keep the advantages of the 1.9 and gain the benefits of the 2.0 - sounds win/win doesn't it!!

your name's not andy is it lol. sorry, read that in a hurry... plus i'm on night shifts at the moment so generally not with it. anyhooooo congrats goochy lol. sorry for the mistake first time!

Cool, they seem okay. I was a bit hesitant at first as they seemed a bit back street. However they certainly know their audis and for the spec I think the price was about right.

What car did you buy off them ?

i bought an a3 2.0 TDI, you will have probably seen me about mate concidering i am from stalybridge too! My car is in brilliant red has a milltek exhaust and cream leather seats and the reg has 4NDY in it, not forgetting the audi-sport sticker in the window feel free to let on if you see me!
