Yesterday i gave the car a little treat, had it booked in metal magic in barnsley to have the original avus alloys refurbed (couldnt make my mind up what alloys to buy so thought why refurb the avus's) and new tyres fitted and WOW, i love them.
The alloys were well and truely dead and i mean dead, they were scuffed, corroded, pieces missing off them etc, lol, i was a bit worried they wouldnt be able to do anything with them but boy i was wrong, they look amazing, the finish they have achieved is untrue. The colour i went for is a antrachite colour, i was going to go orange but decided against it last minute, thought it was a bit OTT, i cant wait to get pics up now, really goes well with the car. Got to say though big thanks to metal magic, top people and top service, highly recommened them.

The next part, tyres.

The old tyres i was running, were, michelin pilot sports, top quality tyre, offered amazing grip wet or dry but a bit pricey, around £140 a corner give or take, now i know you shouldnt skimp on tyres but noway i was paying over £500 for tyres when i'd just paid for the wheels been refurbed. So i bought some kumhos, exact same rating as the michelin's, reinforced wall, load rating etc, they were literally half the price.
All i'm going to say is , their excellent, they grip just aswell as the michelins, gave them some bought in the wet last night and the car held onto the road like **** to a blanket, was really impressed, will definately be usieng them again in the future.

And lastly, i finally solved the problem of the car shooting to the left, all the wheels were well and truely out of balance, didn't realise that wheels been unbalanced altered the handling of the car so much, had all the balancing redone and the car sits straight on the road even when you let go of the wheel, theres no pull at all, also i thought my steering rack was shot as there used to be play in the steering, now theres nothing, you cant move the whell without it affecting the direction were as before i could move it a good 5-10 degrees either way and nothing would happen.

So all in all im a little bit happier with my car, ramble now other :).

nice one mate......cant wait to see the pics ;)

did you get an alignment done? if not then im booking in with JBS soon to get mine done as had 4 new tyres and gearbox out since last time, could meet ya down there fella...... (£40 IIRC)

Sounds good that does. Agreed the michellins are expensive. Be interested to see how these continue to rate against the kumos long term.

Im running khumo's too,.. Ku31's i think. Pretty good tyres.

When you going tim? i need my alignment doing but i dont want to have it done before i fit the suspension.

Nope, thats the thing, just the balancing and new tyres, made a real difference to how the car handles.

I'll update the post in a month or so to say how the tyres are doing, dont get me wrong michelins are good but just a bit too expensive.

im thinking of getting my avus' refirbed. My car is brilliant black. i was thinking of going for smoked chrome, but im a little worried itll look too dark against the black.
I may go for a lighter graphite colour.
Looking forward to the pics.

The colour of mine is landrover bonatti grey.

Pics will come once i can clean the damn thing without it raining, more than likely be monday, also ive done away with the centre caps, looks loads better without them.

oh, cool. very interested to see the outcome then. If you dont mind me asking how much a corner for the refirb. Where i live im looking at 60 - 75 a corner depending on colour. thats for the full process.

Well i dropped a *******, i thought the prices they quoted me were including vat but they werent, it cost £35 a corner plus vat, £20 for the drive in service they do were you leave the car and the wheels are done in the day, £5 a corner to balance the wheels, cost £217 in the end and that was vat inclusive.

thats a pretty good price! i know what you mean about shelling out for tyres at the same time. my rears are ok for a while so ill just replace my fronts at the same time as the refirb, so il be sticking to goodyear eagle f1 assyms.

Dani...that aint bad mate....although i think it works better for convenience..... i can get em done for £100-£150 or four corners in ches plus fitting and inc VAT so not a massive amount cheaper and lacking the day in day out jobby which i think is worth paying for

not sure when im into JBS, want to change some of the rear susp bushes as its not as tight as i would like, possibly gonna be sept/oct by time i get around to it, that fit your timescales?

I really want my Avus's done bronze.... But its breaking the mould as all i ever see is black/white/anthracite/silver.

Were they powdercoated or sprayed Dani?

i've just had my wheels done by metal magic in barnsley and fitted kumho tyres, they have done an amazing job.

That sounds good to me tim, more oct time as im currently jobless or should i say waiting to start my new job so funds have ran dry for the car at the moment :(.

Pics will be up monday dave, sorry for the delay but car is mucky and it doesnt do the wheels justice.

we're stuck with this dilemma......powdercoating tends to give more of a matt/dull finish when compared to spray...both are as hard wearing from what i hear

oh and bronze sounds like a good plan..... would prob go with black more than yours CS....but then again id have to see it, photoshop fella :)

I could do with the sportecs tidying up but metal magic won`t colour match *** how hard is it to get some different paint ***

doood the place in Ches might do it, i'll ask my mate as he was saying he could have any colour he wanted..... other than that the local bodyshop?

I pay £30 a wheel for refurbing. That is powdercoated.

However, you do have to take the wheel in to them with no tyre.

So by the time you give a friendly tyre fitter a drink to remove and then fit your tyre and balance later, all in all about £35 per corner.

It is a lot of hassle doing it this way though. TBh, the price you paid for a drive in ,drive out, same day service seems very fair indeed

Now get some pic's up :)

Or sorry, lol. I'll go check in a minute mate.

Ok so they are KUMHOS ECSTA SPT, they are also 94y rating and reinforced.

Ok cheers , im thinking falken 452 's which are £65 a corner off camskill . I'm gonna get the wheels refurbed so im trying to keep costs down.

Cheers
Sean.

Ok, so here's pic time :)

Excuse the brakes, the cars just been washed, also the centre arnt staying ,like that, ive got some 60mm audi centre caps on their way so will post new pics up once their fitted.

look really nice them mate :)

i've just got 4 Falken 452's fitted for £275 cash to her A3 - rang a small garage up as i was about to let another place do them for £330 all in, they came up with £275 so it must be possible ;)

looking good!
Great colour choice, although they need the centre caps imo. I guess its difficult to get a colour match to the powder coat though?

Well i'm leaving the large center caps off, like i said im going to get some small 60mm centre caps to just cover up the centre hole, going to leave the stud holes showing :).

Car looks very nice Dan !!

£275 sounds very good for falkens , theres a wheel specialist not far from me so im going to get a price for a full refurb + 4 tires fitted. That way theres less chance the wheels will get damaged after been repaired.

cheers.

Thanks guys.

Well im always going to use a wheel specialist in future for fitting my tyres.
