Hi all.
Changed my gearbox/ transferbox and rear diff oil today.
Has anyone else done this themselves?

The gearbox/trannybox oil came out a clearish yellow colour, but the rear diff oil was nearly black.
Guessing i have an issue going on in the diff somewhere?

Refilled it with OEm fluid (75/90 i think) which was a lovely red colour... Which has made gearchanges less crunchy and no whine on over run now.

Any idea why the diff oil could be so dark?

Mine took just over 3ltr.
2 3/4...a quick spin up through the gears then an extra half a litre to top up.

The colour is more likely due to the load it has been put through etc .

As long as its now changed and it feels better i wouldn't worry, in fact i might do mine later...

Just thought it may be a sign of bearing/ gear wear or something.
Glad there were no big metal lumps/ gold coloured swarf stuck to the drain plugs though.

My whines definatly gone, it used to happen coasting in 1st or 2nd, now all i hear is tyre/ road noise.

Silly question, but where do you put the gearbox oil in? I can’t find any references to toping up the gearbox oil in the cars manual or this web site.

Look under the front bumper roughly in front of the passenger seat. You will see a curly black pipe going back and forth, that's for the power steering, just behind that on the front of the gearbox there is a plug maybe about an inch in diameter.
