Hi all
I asked on the forum a while ago about non led, halogen drl's. Nobody came back to me with a solution (yeah thanks for that guys!!!! ) however i was handed a little help on another forum and felt it may be worth sharing on audi-sport.
I was annoyed with the standard halogen DRL's as they were extremely yellow and boring.
The bulb fitting: PS 19 W was a really unusual bulb which I could not seem to source anywhere. I eventually found that the same bulbs were used by GMC (American turck company). I found a Cadillac forum which mentioned the bulbs and possible replacements (9009/H16's). I searched these and found that Nokya (American again) provided these bulbs in an Arctic White. I decided to purchase the bulbs to see if they would fit and give them a go.....
Ok so the bulbs I ordered finally arrived. Being an eager beaver I cracked the packaging open and got on with the job.
The bulbs I ordered were: Nokya 9009/H16 7000K Arctic White
These were the only replacment I could find online for the current NON LED halogen daytime running lights DRL's.
The Bulbs:
How they compare to the Standard Bulb:
Upon arrival I noticed that the fitment wasnt perfect and I had to remove a "joint" as such from the Nokya bulb cap. This was done easily enough with a Stanley knife (should anybody wish to try this mod, all will be come apparent!).
I then inserted the bulb into the previous cap fitting and attempted to insert into the bulbs housing, this was much harder than I could have first imagined. After some time I managed to jam shut the bulb. It was still rather loose as the fitting is clearly not 100% pefrect. This was resolved by a small amount of duct tape (somebody please inform me if this is safe or not near electicals and high temperatures, if not what alternatives can be used).
After fitting the first bulb I compared to the standard bulb:
Standard:
Nokya:
Together:
The photos do not seem to do the bulbs justice as they are much much whiter than the standard PS 19 W bulbs.
I continued with the same process on the other bulb and ended up with the following results:
If someone could please follow up on my earlier question regarding the tape issue it would be really appreciated!
I strongly suggest that anyone with the standard halogen DRL's trys this mod, its a simple yet subtle change which makes the car appear that bit more attractive.
Any questions dont hesitate to ask.
