Can anyone tell me what problems you get after installing an RNS-E before recoding is done.

Cheers

if its 2nd had it will depend on which car it was in before. Mine worked fine without any coding tho it did report errors on vagcom until I told the car it was fitted. It was only when I applied the SD hack I needed to properly tweak as the only spoke in German LOL

New? or used?

If it's used and the previous installer didn't have bluetooth, it won't work with your bluetooth. If the prevoius owner didn't have DAB, it won't 'see' your DAB. If the previous owner didn't have a CD changer...

...you can see how this goes.

Likewise if the PO did have an iPod interface, and you don't. it'll wonder why it cant' talk to the iPod interface...

Multi function steering wheel, satellite radio, IPod/CD changer, Bluetooth, TV tuner... all need to be marked out as present or absent in the coding.

If the faceplate fits, then it will have come from an A3, so half the coding will already be right... but the peripherals have to be correctly defined to prevent it from having a headache, and then the CAN gateway should also be updated.

Instead of asking us what problems you get etc, just advise us of your situation & then we can provide accurate replies instead of speculation.

Now whats the crack then?

Sorry I should have said, Im looking into buying an RNS-E second hand, and was curious to potential problems which may be encountered before recoding work is done.
Also is it worth buying my own VAGCOM cable and software and is the recoding easy to do.

Many thanks and sorry for my first vague post.

Ok thanks, thought it was a bit cheap to do that. Where is best to get vagcom from and what sort of price am I looking at?

Don't know a price in UK£... they're fairly cheap over here... lists at US$250 for a Micro-Can (which will do all A3's GTIOs Golfs, Jettas, GLIs, Passats, Tiguans etc) and there's a guy 100 miles north of here selling a used one for $150...

In the UK I think they're slightly more than the exchange rate might suggest, but they are WONDERFUL things.

Some people will suggest using Chinese knock-off interfaces, which are capable of running an older version of the software, but I'm against that for a few reasons.

But take a lookat the Ross-Tech site, and you'll see that they don't list that they just sell cables; they list them as "software licenses, including a cable"... Unlicensed knock-off copies are not eligible for support, and use of the software circumventing the proper cable doesn't do any good for Ross-Tech in the long run.

Ross Tech are a bonza company, who REGULARLY update the software -the last major revision was only last month- and so I'm all for supporting them.

NHN will sell you the right one, 100% legal with full backup & updates unlike the cheap clones. I've used mine loads of times, I've also helped a few others too.

If your planning to keep car & do a few mods/diagnostics then it could well be worth the cost, remember Audi are about £90ish an hour

I found this VCDS pro, would this be any good, as I would be willing to invest in one if it is.

You dont need the pro kit mate, trust me, you just need the hex-can-usb & this will do you perfectly for 99.999999% of vag cars old & new, the pro kits are just tarted up, the 2x2 adapter has never been asked for in my time of using/selling & is for usage on fairly old cars now, the cable itself is fairly long anyway so no need for the extension lead & cd is pointless as you can download the most uptodate from the site in seconds, user manual is downloadable aswell & the case isnt needed, the cable is robust & only 1 has ever been reported as faulty & this could be something to do with it being run over by the user :p, I just coil it up & stick in glovebox or in my laptop bag like all my buyers, pointless extra expense, take my advice & if you need the cable give me a shout as I can supply the genuine article.

Hi thanks for your advice, can you let me know how much and how to pay as I am very interested in doing this myself and truth be told would prefer not to pay that much. Would you provide the software and lead, just to let you know my car is an A3 2.0 tdi 56 plate. Thanks.

No worries, send me a PM & I will happily reply with all info, thanks.

Does anyone know before I look if an A3 56 plate will need this quadlock adaptor for the RNS-E or is it already on the car of this year?

There's more than one version of the double-din head unit, all labeled 'Concert'...

The concert 2 has a CD player and a cassette player it is ISO. The concert 2+ has a CD player and NO cassette player. It is quadlock.

Is it THIS one:

1224f638631da348

If so, it's ISO.

Or... Is it THIS one:

If so, it's quadlock.

If it has a cassette player, it ISN'T quadlock, it's ISO.

the name "concert" doesn't tell us as much as whether or not it has a cassette player.

Hi all I am about to change my Concert 2+ for an RNS-E I have all the adaptors e.t.c. I have recently invested in vagcom and have read all coding info on the forum but I must be thick because it confuses me. Can someone tell me exactly what to do to code my car. My spec is MFSW, no phone, no cd changer, no tv tuner, no bose, I have full DIS. Many thanks and sorry for being slow.

Hi have installed my RNS-E which works fine, however im getting several fault codes on vagcom such as steering wheel to radio no signal intermittent, and a few antenna faults mainly open circuit or short to ground (signal ok) radio working fine. also im getting subwoofer overvoltage (i dont think i have a sub, have not got bose) any Ideas.

By the way my RNS-E coding is currently 0205715 is this correct for MFSW, no bose, no phone, a3 of course, no cd changer, no bluetooth, no tv.

You need to look at the helper to know your coding before asking on the site, this would be the way to learn how to use such tools.
